How do I get my hamstrings sore?

I do lunges and squats, but not THAT many squats because of my bad knee.

 

My quads and ass are always on fire but my hams feel so numb. Should I switch to some machines that target that area or is there another workout?

I would recommend a seated leg curl machine, the lying and standing version's can be awkward. Yes, the hamstrings are engaged in movements such as squats, lunges, back extension's and stiff legged deadlifts, however you can not achieve a full contraction with these movements.

I've always found that Bulgarian Split Squats, and Stability Ball Hamstring Curls rock my hamstrings... Similar to the hamstring curl machine, the use of the stability ball engages the hamstring, but also the core, glute, and lower back. Here's a video. Skip to 0:41, because this idiot takes forever to explain what is painfully obvious. You can also do these on the TRX, or other suspension trainer. Those really kill!
