OMG it was like playing soccer in a sauna tonight! probably sweated out 5 lbs

The worst of it was the organizer's little brother (23 years old) showed up and he runs like a gazelle.

great workout but at the same time it reminded me once more that I can't do the things I used to. It's still fun though!!

tried some light weights with dumbells this morning.

curls 3x12

shoulderpress 3x12

bench 3x12

tricep kickback 2x8

incline pushups 3x15

I'll have to be very patient and careful with the weights as my back was a bit irritated

yesterday I went for a nice long walk at lunch

in the evening I tried something new....courtesy of bloodgroove in another thread

combat conditioning by Matt Furey

no weight exercises

hindu squats

hindu pushups

back bridge

the squats weren't too bad but I started to feel pretty sore at 50

pushups were a bit tougher for me I did 3x15 instead of going to failure because my back was a bit tender.

the backbridge was by far the toughest for me. It made me realiz how tight my back really is. I could barely get into the bridge position.

I'm going to give it another shot today.

Yesterday was one of those family fitness days.

went for a bike ride, played soccer with the kids, and went for a nice long walk.

Today will be upperbody (don't want to try any squats since I play soccer tomorrow)

chins

shrugs

pushups

shoulderpress

neck arches

curls

bench

my back is still stiff but I feel like I'm making sloooow progress.

heavy weights are a definite no-no right now but as long as I can stay active I'm happy !

soccer last night was pretty good. Always a good workout!

the only downer was that some Einstein picked the teams and it ended up being a team of +35 year olds vs. a bunch of 20 yearolds.

tie game at halftime but the 2nd half was a slaughter!

today I did a set of 50 hindu squats

3x15 incline pushups

3x5 pullups

and 40 minutes of soccer. (what can I say? World Cup is almost here!!!)

yesterday was a rest day. My quads have been a bit sore lately (makes sense given the pounding I've been giving the lately)

This morning I pulled out the dumbells

3x15 bench

3x12 shoulder press

3x12 curls

3x15 incline pushups

3x8 dips

hoping to get out tonight for some soccer or basketball.

since I started soccer I've lost 8 lbs!!!

And it's a good 8lbs ..... I'm wearing a pair of pants today that I haven't been able to wear for about a year.

  • 2 weeks later...

Been a while

but I've been pretty active. Tons of soccer just played tonight and my wind is FINALLY back!!! It's much more fun when you're not bent over sucking wind

I've lost 10 lbs over the last couple weeks. I don't really mind losing the weight since it makes me quicker.

I'm still doing weights but with lower amounts. Still don't trust my back.

later.....

  • 4 months later...

Been even a longer while....

My last back injury has made me reevaluate bodybuilding, and I have rediscovered soccer which was my favourite sport growing up.

I found a new ankle brace which stabilizes the joint enough to allow me to play indoors (the even surface is a must)

Not a fair comparison but on the last World Cup rosters, guys my height ( 6'3.5") all weighed in around 190 lbs.

My 44 yr old body tips the scales at 230 lbs.

My challenge is to get down to 210 by Dec 31st.

I think that is a reasonable goal weight (I don't want to be a stick either)

Stay tuned.... this creaky body is going to go through some serious cardio

AWesome game last night!!

we lost, but hey , it was fun!!!!

It is soooo uplifting to discover that at 44 , I can still compete evenly with

the 20 year olds.

I've been cleaning the diet up over the last week and will start regular workouts today. First weigh in will be this weekend.

It will be great to lose the weight but I am EXTREMELY hesitant to lose muscle mass. Time will tell..... I'm just going to go by how my body feels.

Been concentrating on body weight exercises this week.

squats, incline pushups, tricep dips, planks.

Only had one short run this week since my game on Tuesday.

Should get another in on Saturday.

Weigh in on Sunday!!! That fraction of a second increase in speed will no doubt result in a few goals!

Whooo Hoooo!!!

The weigh in results for week one are in:........ lost 6 pounds!!!!!

Didn't expect that much, but I'm not arguing

Added yoga to my workouts. I quite often practice with my daughter (who is quite amused at my lack of flexibility)

Soccer game on Tuesday night at 11:15 pm ...Oh man!!!!!!!

I'm going to be VERY tired on Wednesday.

A truly embarassing performance last night. We were THROTTLED 9-2.

Our regular GK wasn't there, and we played against a young team which just ran and ran and ran all night!

Oh well, I still had fun. It was a great workout! Got 2 assists and a super workout. Not all bad!

I definitely have to do some windsprints.

Feeling pretty good today so looks like weights and yoga tonight.

JW was lazy last night!

ended up watching a couple episodes of Lost and "lost track of time"

this morning I did some yoga,

2x15 incline pushups

2x12 dips

2x8 curls with dumbells.

tonight I'm blowing the dust off of the NordicTrack for a 25 min session.

I have to build on that 6lbs I lost last week.

Not a great workout weekend.

yoga on saturday and sunday.

went for a run and

did some intervals on Saturday morning but I became very wheezy after.

might have to look into an inhaler if this continues

(it was my first run in cold weather this year...hopefully it won't happen again ( the wheezing I mean! )

Sunday was a disaster as the Grey Cup (Canadian equivalent of the Superbowl) was held in Winnipeg.

I went to the game and a party so the day was pretty much shot.

tonight it's weights

tomorrow is another soccer game

I have to get back on track for my next weigh-in (next Sunday)

AAARRRRRGGGGHH!!!

lost 3-0 last night.

I played forward for the first time this year.

I must have gotten at least 8 shots on goal but they just don't want to go in!!!

Great workout though!

My legs felt like jelly after the game.

As frustrating as my scoring drought is, I'm still hoplessly addicted!
