robert
A friend e-mailed this to me so I thought I'd pass it along: -Robert It has been calculated that if everyone in Australia did notpurchase a dropof petrol for one day and all at the same time, the oil companieswould choke on their stockpiles. At the same time it would hit the entire industry with a net lossover 4.6 billion dollars which affects the bottom lines of the oilcompanies. Therefore Thursday September 22nd has been formally declared"stick it up their behind" day and the people of this nation should not buy asingle drop of petrol that day. The only way this can be done is if you forward this e-mail to asmanypeople as you can and as quickly as you can to get the word out. Waiting on the government to step in and control the prices is notgoing tohappen. What happened to the reduction and control in prices thatthe Arabnations promised two weeks ago? Remember one thing, not only is the price of petrol going up butat the sametime airlines are forced to raise their prices, trucking companiesareforced to raise their prices which effects prices on everythingthat isshipped. Things like food, clothing, building supplies medicalsupplies etc. Who pays in the end? We do! We can make a difference. If they don't get the message after oneday, wewill do it again and again. So do your part and spread the word. Forward this email toeveryone you knowMark your calendars and make September 22nd a day that thecitizens ofAustralia "enough is enough"
Daywalker
I don't know if that works as intended.People who are conscious about the problem already try to use as little petrol as possible. I have a car, but try to use it only when necessary, i share it and take passengers over long rides. But i need to buy fuel now and then. So, when i don't buy it on september 22nd, i'll buy it one day before or after, where's the point?? The amount would be the same.Fuel is not as easy to boycott as a certain brand or other product, like tofu, for example (i could eat something else instead). If i want to boycott fuel, i'd have to go for alternatives rahter than limiting myself to only buy fuel on fridays
FormicaLinoleum
Yeah, a no-gas day won't really do anything. Snopes has an explanation:http://www.snopes.com/politics/gasoline/nogas.asp Oh, I just noticed that this one was for Australia. I got one for one in the US (on 1 Sept), which prompted me to look it up. Snopes rocks, btw. The vast majorities of the e-mail forwards I get can be found on there. V VII Hero
I dont purchase anymore, as I dont drive. I think this idea is greta but wont work out as planned. people should cut back on driving and plan out more effecient trips. live close to where they need to be. cycle and walk more. etc. I hate the fact our society relies on automobiles so much. its like the automobiles drive us. robert
Yeah, I hear you guys, I just thought I'd pass it along since it was sent to me. I didn't know if it worked or not. Whenever I get the "don't buy gas" e-mails, I don't that day, hoping that maybe it will make a difference. But yeah, just using less resources in general, is a great way to go.
