  1. I won't take up too much of your time, so thank you for reading my post. I'm new to the website, but I've been getting the magazine for a while, and I've been vegan since July 2008. My name is Sandy, I'll be 47 in July, I'm 5'8, 131 lbs and vegan for almost six years. Despite my body fighting me every step of the way, I'm a in-home fitness junkie, having completed P90X, X2, Insanity, Les Mills Pump, Turbo Fire and Asylum (both volumes). I'm currently in the middle of my third week of Body Beast, first round. It's been humbling, and it has brought back some vivid memories of my attempt at bodybuilding 20+ years ago. My issue is with calorie requirements, and trying to shrink my lower half while growing my upper - and keeping to the 130 lb range. My job is sedentary, though I walk to and from work and try to walk around every 45 minutes or so. When I was doing Asylum, 3000 cals/day was in the high range, because I was famished. Now that I'm doing Body Beast with some HIIT workouts and Insanity Ab work thrown in, I don't know where to start. I don't know what my protein ceiling should be, but I do know that too much creates havoc in my gut and can cause kidney problems for most people. I did a DEXA scan last month to determine a baseline for body fat and to see how my bones are. Good news first - my bones are in great condition for my age (highest rank) and organ fat to tissue fat ratio is 0.78, which the tech said was also excellent in that I don't carry a lot of organ fat. But overall, I'm at 25.5% and the scan determined I carried 90.9 lbs of lean muscle. The goal is to get that to 100 lbs without changing my weight. Can I do this???? If so, what should my baseline calories be? Having not done Asylum for a few weeks now, my resting HR is about 50 (it was at 44). If I assume I weigh 59 kg, that means I'll need 1416 cals to keep what I have if I just walked every day instead of doing Beast, P90X3, whatever. I'm giving myself 120 days until the next scan. I don't think 120 grams of protein is safe, but I'm throwing the question out there. I snack with Primal seitan jerky, Wheaty sausage snacks (cumin - when I can get it), and I supplement with Vega every morning after my workout (along with San Corp Green Fusion, Billy's Infinity C, L-Glutamine, etc). Soy isn't a staple, but I will get tofu on salads, and for dinner sometimes I'll have Viana, Tofurky, Gardein or something interesting from Veganessentials.com. I'm at a loss. I keep records of what I'm eating on MyFitnessPal, and sometimes I have to wing it, assessing tofu in place of cheese (from restaurant food that's listed). If anyone can give me any ideas, I'm all for it. I'm ready to start getting acunpunture every week to help with my adrenal exhaustion and working with Functional Medicine to make sure I'm doing things right. The only "vitamin" I take is D-3 because I'm a white chick living in Chicago, lol. The sun is not my friend, and aging sucks ass, lol....
