Tofu in a crock pot

Anyone try cooking tofu in a crock pot? We got a crock pot for Christmas and wanted to try tofu in it, but I'm unsure of how it would turn out? Thanks.

i don't think it would come out well. I have 2 cookbooks dedicated to vegan slow cooking dishes and they recommend you don't do it. I used tempeh though and that comes out well. So do beans, lentils, rice.

I think it would just stay too soft and mushy. I only tried it once, and it wasn't too appealing...

If you brown the tofu first before putting it in the crock pot it is not too bad.

thanks for posting that i will def try it as some point because i like using my slow cooker! I am curious to see how it comes out because the few tofu recipes i have made in the slow cooker were not that great. they were edibile but not as good as if i didn't use the slow cooker for sure.

Where do you find water chestnuts? I have looked all over my store for them and haven't seen them so i usually have to leave them out of recipes.

I always take them out of recipes because I can't stand water chestnuts!! I think I've seen them canned before. I don't really pay attention since I hate them so much. I always pick them out of stir frys.

That chinese BBQ tofu sounds SO good. Shame I don't own a slow cooker!
