New Goal -assistance please

Recommended Posts

I have a photo shoot coming up (Summer) and need to start really training even harder to reach it. Goals definitely help to keep me focused. And the benefits for the opportunity to enter the main stream market as a Vegan will be wonderful (I hope) for Veganism (you can bet I'll plug it at every opportunity).

I need to be VERY cut for this and could use any suggestions on diet and exercise.

Would it really hurt me to do cardio in the am and lift in the pm, to speed this along?

I know I need to work on the following:

1-Drinking more water

2-Cutting back caffeine (coffee, diet soda) consumption

3-Being sure to eat every 2-3 hours

4-Drinking protien shake before bed (this is also after my pm weight lifting)

You guys who have been competing or involved in fitness professionally, do you suggest anything else?

Yikes.

To the original poster: I think your plans all sound very reasonable. But i don't see the reason to cut caffeine. Just drink TONS of water and coffee is fine to have. DOn't deprive yourself of that greatest thing ever!

After that weight session make sure to have some good carbs as well.

Good luck - you'll be smokin'!

I only have a second, but someone just e-mailed me and alerted me of the porn link above.

These Pokemon things have showed up a couple of times. I'll look into deleting them when I get a chance. For now, please ignore them and I'll try to delete them without shutting down the whole website by accident since I suck at using computers

Seasiren...I'll give you some suggestions when I have a few minutes, I'm running late right now....I've competed and prepared for many photo shoots so maybe I'll be able to help a tiny bit, and others I'm sure have some good ideas too.

Ok, gotta go.

No, this won't hurt. It depends a bit on your diet and protein and calory intake, but in general doing cardio am is the way to go to burn fat fast.

I know I need to work on the following:

1-Drinking more water

2-Cutting back caffeine (coffee, diet soda) consumption

3-Being sure to eat every 2-3 hours

4-Drinking protien shake before bed (this is also after my pm weight lifting)

1 - is good. How much exactly is "more" to you? No need to exaggerate, with a clean diet 1 gallon is easily enough, plus what you sweat out.

2 - Not really needed for cutting, but generally a good idea

3 - Yep

4 - What do you mean by "before bed"? It's not a good idea to eat directly before going to bed. If it's a small shake, 1 hour before bed is okay.

Generally i'd recommend to cut out refined carbs and sugars. No carbs after 6 p.m., only if you're working out late you should have a few carbs after your workout. Carbs in the morning, protein in the evening (and smaller amounts throughout the day).

Lots of veggies, salads and fruits if you need to get you calories down.

Stay with you workout, heavy weights to prevent muscle loss and increase fat burning. Cardio is an extra i only add if the diet and weights don't do the trick fast enough.

Drink half of your water as green tea, it's supposed to help burn fat (i'm not sure if that really helps, but i did it and liked it And green tea is healthy in other ways, too, so it doesn't hurt )

Hm, that's what comes to my mind first...

Good luck with your diet, please share some pictures with us

Love and peace,

Daywalker

1- today I had 2 cups of coffee, 1 diet soda and a diet caffine free soda for my liquid intake...so none. I have told since I was very young that I stay dehydrated, so something I really need to work on.

2- getting this response a lot, which is wonderful, because I really love my morning coffee. So, since it's not necessary...I wont' lol

4 - I work out sometime between 6:30 -8:30pm, bed is generally 12-1 (night owl), so I generally have the shake post workout. (working on going to bed at decent hour also.)

I think I may try giving up cardio days and replacing them with weight days and see how I feel. My recovery has been amazing fast lately. It seems everything is speeding up the more I do it.

The rest is a piece of cake, as I am already doing it.

Except the Green Tea, I'll give it a whirl.

Thank-you!

good luck with it

must say though that you barely drink anything! try substituting the soda for fruit juice and drinking say an 8ounce glass of water each time you have a coffee or something. works quite well for me when im not having a physically active day - just necking a pint of water when i put the kettle on for a hot drink.

looking forward to seeing the end results of your routine

DW - Does green tea have caffeine? Is that the way it functions to burn fat... as a stimulant?

Yes, green tea has caffeine. But it's not released as fast as the caffeine in coffee, because it's bound to other substances (tannin), and it has about half as much caffeine as coffee. Therefore green tea should be left in the hot water for at least 4 minutes, because the caffeine is released from the leaves first, then the tannins. Tannins are good for your stomach, but also inhibit the iron resorbtion, therefore don't drink green tea with a meal.

There are a lot of other healthy substances in green tea and you can treat various ailments with it, apparently it even helps preventing cancer.

Yes, you should work on that

Fluids other than water and tea i do not count as liquid intake. They are either food (juice, soymilk) or pleasure (diet soda, coffee).

It's a habit, get used to water

I wouldn't count green tea as water intake, though...it has caffeine and is therefore a diuretic.

I think you should count only water and herbal as water intake. Green tea actually requires you to have MORE water since the caffeine is a diuretic - isn't that right?

ljk11 I don't think it's a straight conversion like that. If I remember right, (no time to find my book right now) while caffeine can act as a diuretic it doesn't equate to water loss on top of the solution you drink it in. In fact I think it just reduces a bit from that solution. So maybe it counts as half the water intake or something. But I'm sure that depends on caffeine amount.

Green tea has a lot less caffeine than coffee, and less than black tea, but more than white tea. You can, however, get de-caff green tea (which I would count as a water substitute, just as I would any uncaffeinated herbal tea. Newer research is even showing that coffee is not as dehydrating as was previously though).

The fat-burning substance in green tea is EGCG (epigallo-something-or-other, LOL!).

For best flavor, green tea should be steeped in less-than-boiling water (if water comes to a boil, let it sit for a minute or two to cool, or just don't let it hit boiling) for not more than 4 minutes (some recommend just 2-3 minutes). Longer than that, or using hot water, makes the tea somewhat bitter.
