Stretch marks

Recommended Posts

Congrats on the weight loss!

Most stretch marks diminish over time. But noone really wants to wait for them to go away lol. It's important to keep your skin hydrated and mosturized. There are alot of creams and lotions on the market now, from my experience, finding a good cortizone cream or a cream rich in Vitamin E seem to work best for stretch marks.

Remember though, not all stretch marks are created equal. Alot has to do with your genetics and your skins elasticity. In the end, something as simple as cocoa butter may work, or nothing may work. Trial and error but make sure you don't keep trying to the point of going broke. Some of these products are expensive.

Of course, there's always laser surgery. Even that isn't a guarantee though.

You could always think of your stretch marks as battle scars, especially with your weight loss success.

Because everybody and every stretch mark case is different, I would suggest seeing a dermatologist. He or she just may suggest a simple solution. Dermatologist deal with this all the time. You can also do some research on your own prior to a visit to a doctor. I found this info site (Laser Stretch Mark Removal) quite help even though I wasn't considering laser treatments (too expensive). It explains in detail what stretch marks are, what causes them and describes different ways to get rid of them. Good luck...

I have stretch marks too from when I grew to 5'10" in fifth grade. I've tried every cream and treatment, even laser removal. The lasers will take the red out. If they are white (like mine were) they will fade slightly and the indention will plump up. The lasers will leave bright purple, raised patches on your skin for months also. Really. Super scrubbing with a loofah, then lots of moisturizer each day will help.

I have some seriously amazing looking ones on my upper arms back from my 100 lb weight loss more than a decade ago. While working out has made them less noticible they look like I was a fire victim. They're THAT bad, beyond stretch marks into actual scarring.

I sincerely wish I had known as much back then about working out as I do now. I relied mainly on cardio and paid the price. :-/

The 30 pounds that have melted off left behind a gift-batches of ridiculous looking stretch marks all over my body.

I know there is no magic cure to get rid of them, but what have you found works best to reduce the appearance of them?

There are 2 main ways to help get rid of your stretch marks, either Surgical or Natural treatments.

Surgical:

Some of the surgical treatments include Laser Treatment, Chemical Peels and Micro-Dermabrasion.

These treatments in the surgical categories can be extremely effective but come with a hefty price tag! Often more than one treatment would be required for a visible improvement and none are guaranteed to provide any drastic results. However for some people it is a miracle cure to get rid of stretch marks. So as long as you have plenty of spare money to give it a go, surgical options may well be worth a try.

Natural Treatments:

The natural treatments on the other hand are by far a cheaper option with many being extremely effective. This is why natural ways to get rid of stretch marks are very popular in today's society.

The main reasons Natural Treatments are more popular than Surgical Treatments is because they are affordable, painless, can be done in the comfort of your own home. such as:

-Eat a healthy, diverse and balanced diet

-Use a body brush or wash cloth to massage the areas where you want to prevent stretch marks from appearing

-Drink plenty of water

-Take your vitamins.

-Keep skin liberally and effectively moisturized

I hope this Help, Cheers

Congrats on the weight loss!

Sun tanning (under the real sun) will help to fade them, try and sun tan with nothing on your skin, no lotion or cream but just bare skin for as long as you can before you start to burn. If you plan on staying out in the sun longer apply coconut oil (natural sun protection)

Dr skin brushing like the others have mentioned is good too.

I have heard before that coconut oil is a good natural sun protection, but I was always afraid to try it since it seems like oil should make you burn more. Have you tried it, and does it work? - Sorry that was off topic, but on topic I have heard had some success with shea butter for stretch marks.

I use coconut oil as sunscreen (and as a natural skin lotion), but only after I already have a bit of a base tan. It's supposed to have an SPF of about 4, BUT it needs to be rubbed in otherwise, yes, the oil will reflect the sun and cause you to burn rather than protecting you. I used it all summer and loved it!

Thanks! I will have to try that this summer!

I gained almost all my weight when I was 11/12 years old, and I ended up with some pretty horrific stretch marks everywhere you'd expect them, I personally had one shaded with a light pink tattooing, so I would always have it after they all fade (which they did, except that one) to remind me never to let myself get back there again. Ever.

Also, Cocoabutter lotion and vitamin e lotion is pretty awesome.

Stretch marks are a type of scar beneath the skin. When body shape changes or skin is stretched in any way, there’s a possibility that the deeper layers of the skin may suffer damage. The deep layers of the skin are formed primarily by collagen and other connective tissue. When collagen is strained beyond its strength, it tears.
