Dried Fruits

Hello Gang,

I used to be a big candy bar eater; Twix and Hersheys for the most part.

I have been switching to dried fruit, Mariani brand usually, I like the mangos and dried dates. I assume those are better for me than candy, but aside from that, are dried fruits to "sugar" packed to eat in your opiions?

I eat raisins everyday in my quinoa every morning. Besides that I'll eat a handful of dried fruit after my workout along with a protein shake to get my carbs in. I personally don't think it's ideal to eat them all day long, it's better then candy of course since candy has no nutritional value and dried fruits do. Ideally you keep your sugars to a minimum, too much sugar in your diet plays havoc on your body.

I think dried fruits are a great CANDY replacement, but it's good to limit your intake, since they can still spike your blood sugar and they are calorie dense. Are there any fresh fruits you like? Try to eat those over dried, but don't feel too bad if you need some dried every now and then :)

Dried fruit is better than candy, but it has its downsides. Most dried fruit has refined sugar added which isn't healthy, but the actual sugar in the fruit shouldn't concern you. The people who eat the most fresh fruit are LEAN. But dried fruit can give you teeth issues if you eat a lot of it, just like candy.

The good thing is, dried fruit is a great stepping stone to fresh fruit. So go ahead mow down a bag of grapes instead of raisins every once in a while and gradually make the switch.

I think they are great in moderation. I know if I eat too much, I feel like crap from all of the sugar. I look for ones with no added sugar as well. Mostly from amazon.com. Mangos are my fave!

dried fruits have much concentrated sugar than the fresh one. and in order to keep it preserved longer, most producers add sugar on its surface. meanwhile, dried fruits have a relatively high calory. it is a optimum choice to refresh your energy after doing sports.

I don't guess they are technically a dried fruit? but I recently ate some Turkish Figs that were superb and the best tasting natural sweet fruit I have tasted.

Some brands offer an option of no sugar added. Look for that because a lot of them have added sugar... as if they aren't sweet enough as is. I know at trader joes for example they have some with added sugar they call "sweet" or "juicy" vs the ones without they call "Just" like Juicy mango vs just mango, gotta go with the just deserts keke yes I'm that cheesy sometimes.
