I foresee a lot of swimming in my future this summer and I want to protect my hair. Any one have any recommendations? Shaving my head bald is not really an option.

I have been riding my mountain bike on the bike trail lately and I noticed something very ironic. There are a lot of hefty people on carbon fiber bicycles and super tight cloths to counter air resistance. They don't seem to be working very hard and they probably don't have a heart rate much higher than a brisk walk. I am sure it is better that they are out doing something rather then watching TV, but it boggles my mind why they want to make it so easy. I wonder if they are putting there stats in something like Fitday which says if they bike for an hour, they burn X number of calories. But they have made it so easy, that they are probably burning half that. It mak…

Josh Garrett's record pacific crest trail accomplishment will always remain among one of the greatest heroic vegan athletes of my lifetime who walks his talk with a simple message to end animal cruelty and proving the meat industry to be the sadistic scum of the earth they are by accomplishing a truly superhuman feat of endurance involving no meat eating, no animal product eating, and I would guess no leather hiking shoes or other animal products either. I have yet to find anywhere where he distracts and dilutes the basic message to end suffering the way certain megalomaniac b.s. ego bantering idiots who insist on a specific ratio of carbohydrates/protein/fat for everyon…

I have been experiencing knee pain after every bike ride for the last 3 weeks .I ride to and from work maybe 3 times a week 45 minutes each way (I also run 4 times during the week for 30 minutes). It has never happened before and it is starting to concern me. My knees are in pain after I ride, then they feel swollen (running seems fine). It usually goes away after a while but the swollen feeling comes back at night (wether I exercise that day or not). Does anyone have any suggestions on how to alleviate this I am leaving on vacation and I need my knees

I recently got into eating 80/10/10 diet and i start to notice feeling hungry all the time, after researching for a while i realize why. Basically, fruits are low in fiber but high in water content, hence why your stomach feels full. However, fructose are easily digest, so when you eat tons of fruits, what happen is that it gets absorb and digested easily and you shit them all out within an hour. So how you do solve the hungry issues? Well, if you need energy, eat tons of fruits for quick boost of energy. However, if you want a more stable diet with less hunger, then simply eat more black beans. Black beans are complex carbohydrates and VERY high in fibers. Eatin…

http://www.elephantjournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/tofu-love-300x269.jpg Match.com was a fairly decent resource for veg*ns doing online dating. Match.com had two useful features: a “daily diet” listing on personal ads and an accurate keyword search. The “daily diet” profile listing would allow you to list your “daily diet” as “vegetarian”. This was great for finding profiles of potential dates who were vegetarian, vegan, or veg*n-friendly. Match.com had key words you could associate with your profile that acted like an index. The keyword “vegan” on your profile would help others find your profile and you to find others by clicking on the keyword “vegan” o…

Hi there, I have a question for you all. I'm going to start working at a stockroom and my job will require heavy physical labour for about 8-12 hours a day, 5 days a week. So my question is: what food/drinks do you people recommend to keep me going during the day? I'm not a bodybuilder but I am vegan for about 3 years now. Thanks in advance

Do any of you guys who lift weights do Yoga? I'm looking to apply yoga to my schedule once or twice a week but I don't have a lot of money or access to any yoga classes and need to self teach. I'm looking for videos or websites with simple full body routines that cover all the basics in like 30-45min. Thanks.

I'm 65 now but as a young teenager was yer actual 97lb weakling, back then saw an ad in the tabloid paper for a free booklet on The Charles Atlas "Dynamic-Tension" Bodybuilding and Fitness Course, so sent for it. The booklet was a real convince and sent for the full system, but didn't have the discipline and forgot about it. A&E did a documentary on Charles Atlas which got me interested in Dynamic Tension again. I didn't really stick with it hard-core since I did lift weights a little but recently got into Hot Yoga and think the Charles Atlas system would go better than weights. It's basically a body weight system, the difference is self resistance exercise, inste…

Hi, i know this is a bit weird, but have you ever tried stair climbing workouts as a cardio workout? I have read a lot about it and it seems like a useful training for resistance and cardio. I often am lazy to go out and run in the cold and rain and i hate cardio machines because they are boring and static.. I tried to climb 150 flights of stairs in a day and i can say my heart was beating really fast and i felt really good.. Does anyone have some opinions about it?

I know there are mainly three types of exercise bikes in the market, upright, recumbent, and spining exercise bike. I am quite into cycling, so I think the spining one would be more helpful to my training. I read an article that says: While my family would like to use it as well, so I think a recumbent bike would be suitable for my family, because it has comfortable seat which is good for elderly users. So, to split the difference, I am planing to buy a crazysales Genki upright exercise bike, which is great for my home training, has adjustable resistance level, and safe enough for my family members. And what do you guys think? Among the three kinds of bikes, which on…

Hi folks! I'm a strength based athlete and am looking for some advice. Due to my other work I recently had to take some time more or less off from my regular training, and also had an extended period of having to eat out a lot/eat badly etc. During this time I gained 10lbs. I assumed this weight would fall off as soon as I resumed my regular routine, but I'm now 4wks in and while my strength has more or less returned (at least the weights I am lifting at the gym are back to the same they were before the break), the extra weight remains (in fact if anything I've gained a couple more pounds). While I'm obviously not thrilled with this for aesthetic reasons, I'm also reall…

Hi everyone I'm new to this forum but thought I'd sign up as I've enjoyed looking through some of the threads on here. I've lived a vegan lifestyle for just over two and a half years now. My starting weight is 68.5kg and I am 5ft 8.5inches tall. I started kung fu a couple of months ago and I am loving it. I train in Five Ancestors Fist and we also do Shoalin Five Animals. I currently train 3 times per week which equates to 5.5hrs per week. 1.5hrs on Monday night, 2hrs Wednesday night and 2hrs on Saturday lunch time. I haven't been doing this for long but it is already starting to tone up my body and I am feeling stronger. The training consists of about 50% body c…

Hey guys ! So I am vegetarian for like 5 years and vegan for one year. I don't have weight to lose at all but I wanna be more toned, so I started to do a lot of sport (6 days per week, for one or two hours) since november but I don't have the results I want, it's better but it's so damn slow ... When I see that some girls in 4 months change totally their body, I am super disappointed by me. I mean I feel my abs but the little layer of fat on it doesn't wanna leave xD . So I started the Insanity Challenge, I begin the 3rd week and I hope now I will see results soon, but someone has an ideo of what I could do wrong ? Thanks you =)

My question is about stretching as you can tell by the subject. I recently sprained my lower back and have been out of commission for a while. I don't like taking drugs unless there is no other choice, so after three months of not being able to properly do cardio or weight lift, I finally went to a Naturalpathic Center. I received some acupuncture treatments and I feel great and I am ready to hit the gym again. One thing the Dr. told me is that I need to stretch which I couldn't agree with more. I have never really done any stretching and I need some advice on when to stretch (I believe after I work out but I'm not really sure, and what about on off days?) and what stretc…

Is anyone into winter sports? I snowshoe, XC ski (Nordic back country), downhill (alpine ski), snowboard, and skin (AT ski). I just got into skinning recently, and I have the hardest time staying warm on the way down. I find my body temp drops very quickly when my activity level decreases. I have to bring an extra shirt or two, extra jacket, glove liners, socks, and ski pants in a back pack on the way up, otherwise I end up shivering pretty bad on the way down. I generally have a hard time staying warm in winter. Fingers and toes especially as I probably have Raynauld's. Anyone else have these problem? Any suggestions?
