I just had my first Krav maga test on Saturday, it was two hours of nonstop drills and exercises in a concrete-walled room with no windows in about 40 degree heat (that's 104 for you Americans ) and 100% humidity. I've never sweat so much in my life, and I got some nice bruises, but I passed! There are 5 "practitioner" levels, P1-P5, so I just got my P1 as they call it. Looks like I was the fastest P1 in the organization. My instructor is the director of the Canadian branch of the IKMF, and refuses to test anyone he thinks could fail. He normally tests after 6-12 months. A week before the test, he had a "mock test" where he ran through technique drills so he could see w…

I heard from a friend of mine in high school that him and his friend practiced Ninjustu once in Mattapan. I was like "really?" Where would a person go if they wanted to learn ninjustu?

Crazy year so far and it's only round 5 this weekend! EDIT:video blocked so just press it to see quick highlights of the first 4 rnds. I hope Casey Stoner gets it together this week and gets back to the top.Sucks that Rossi will be out for a couple months for that broken shin bone in practice. I also like to see Nicky Haden do well. I've never liked any sort of racing except the MotoGP.Very entertaining.

I have the Metabolic Syndrome (or am the Syndrome); heart disease; interstitial lung disease; chronic fatigue and fibro; spinal stenosis, etc. I am morbidly obese and am so very tired of the consummate e-mails about people's credentials. I am 49 years old and need to lose weight. Have tried low carb diets and just don't stick for me. I am unable to exercise much at all due to pain. Please float me some reading materials, books or plain old good advice regarding a plan for life that includes weight loss. Thanks for your time.

This guy is so awesome. He got he came back from 3 ko losses in a row and 1 of them was brutal at the hands of Albert Kraus in K-1 MAX Final 16 tournament in 2009. He went from the 3 straight ko loses to winning the 2010 Japan K-1 World max tournament defeating all his opponents by KO. Now he is also coming off another win and is the reserve fighter for this years K-1 MAX Tournament. And he is a Cosplayer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUyKWAMOBxE

I grew up playing soccer and have recently gotten back into the sport. I played in an indoor league last winter and will be doing the same this winter. I'm currently playing in trail shoes because I can't find vegan cleats.

World championship Gold goes to humble Indian Veg Wrestler: http://www.outlookindia.com/images/photoessays/sushil_kumar_20080922.jpg http://blog.petadishoom.com/Sushil%20Kumar.JPG Given that India is probably the worst country when it comes to support Sports Talent, absolute lack of training and funds.. unless you are a highly marketed CRICKET player. Other than that.. Indian sports... suffer.. OK, I swear I posted this earlier this morning, but I don't see the post anywhere...so delete if it's a dupe. Anyways, I injured my foot surfing and so my P90x Plyo and CardioX are out the window for a while. I can use the elliptical and bikes at the Y (no pool though), but I prefer to work out at home. Just wonder is there's a good routine I can do that will burn calories that won't put strain on my (right) foot? I've been making great progress and want to keep it up! Thanks!

If you're looking to drop a pants size or two, simply adding some organized exercise at the end of the day may not be enough, especially if you have a desk job. Do you know what your NEAT rating is? Excerpted from "Green Barbarians; Live Bravely on Your Home Planet," by Ellen Sanbeck: A study published in 2007 by scientists at the University of Missouri, Columbia, demonstrated that going to the gym for an hour every day is not likely to make people healthy if they are inactive during the rest of their waking hours. Marc Hamilton, an associate professor of biomedical sciences, led the team that studied the impact of inactivity on rats, pigs, and humans. They found e…

I'm looking to mix up my cardio even though I'm a die-hard runner. However, I love to kick ass when necessary. I've never taken a kickboxing class, but I don't want to do that weak aerobic kind. I also took boxing and wrestling when I was a midshipman at the Naval Academy. So, let me know your likes and dislikes about Krav Maga and Kickboxing. Thanks in advance! Wendy

I did the first first insanity video today. It was the Plyometric Cardio Circuit. I think the routine is very good. It is not as bad as I thought it would be and there are plenty of breaks. It is harder than the plyo in P90X as it is more cardio focused. The P90X is harder in the sense that your legs will burn to no end. I didn't feel as much burn in the insanity, but I did run out of energy with the heart really pounding. It is shorter than the P90X video, but I like that. The P90X videos have a few too many breaks between each exercise. Insanity is bam bam bam bam bam break. Most of the exercises are simple that you figure out the move real quick. Som…

Hi, I'm new at this message board and I am trying to recover from anorexia. About 2 months ago, I made the switch to veganism. I have gained weight and I am now 98 pounds at 5'5". Now I would like to work at getting in shape. My body fat is very low. I had it tested by a nutritionist and he said it was 5.2% but I think I look 'skinny fat.' I don't know, it could just be my eating disorder talking since I was so underweight before. Anyway, in college I used to run 6 miles a day and I would like to get back into it as well as build some muscle. I was wondering if anyone has experiences of getting in shape while still being pretty underweight and how I should get started? I …

Hey guys. Just thought I'd let everyone know that I'm registered to do the North Face Canadian Death Race as a soloist again this summer. For those of you unfamiliar with this race, it is a 125 km. race that goes up and over 3 mountain summits (17,000 feet of elevation change) and needs to be completed in 24 hours. There are 5 main legs to this race; most people do the race as part of a 5 person relay team. Participants also need to be at the end of each leg in a specific time to avoid being disqualified. There are roughly 250 of us who attempt the thing solo. Last year 231 people started the race, 76 finished. This race is known as Canada's hardest race. I came i…

I had a 10 month slump. I didn't work out much until this last thursday. I spent the weekend on the gym.. Mainly more Cardio, and calisthenics to start off. Yesterday when I got to the gym I started off good. I did some curls and some back exercises... and then suddenly when I got to the next machine I felt sleep and really weak. I tried to tough it out and just push my self but I was barely 20 mins and I went from a 10 in energy to about a 3.. Does this happen to any of you? Why do you guys think this happen?
