So I have heard both yes and no to this question. Is swimming laps good for weight loss? In other words, if I'm at the gym and want to get some cardio in, is it just as effective as treadmill, stationary bike, elliptical etc?

Is anyone into winter sports? I snowshoe, XC ski (Nordic back country), downhill (alpine ski), snowboard, and skin (AT ski). I just got into skinning recently, and I have the hardest time staying warm on the way down. I find my body temp drops very quickly when my activity level decreases. I have to bring an extra shirt or two, extra jacket, glove liners, socks, and ski pants in a back pack on the way up, otherwise I end up shivering pretty bad on the way down. I generally have a hard time staying warm in winter. Fingers and toes especially as I probably have Raynauld's. Anyone else have these problem? Any suggestions?

Hi, i know this is a bit weird, but have you ever tried stair climbing workouts as a cardio workout? I have read a lot about it and it seems like a useful training for resistance and cardio. I often am lazy to go out and run in the cold and rain and i hate cardio machines because they are boring and static.. I tried to climb 150 flights of stairs in a day and i can say my heart was beating really fast and i felt really good.. Does anyone have some opinions about it?

Hi folks! I'm a strength based athlete and am looking for some advice. Due to my other work I recently had to take some time more or less off from my regular training, and also had an extended period of having to eat out a lot/eat badly etc. During this time I gained 10lbs. I assumed this weight would fall off as soon as I resumed my regular routine, but I'm now 4wks in and while my strength has more or less returned (at least the weights I am lifting at the gym are back to the same they were before the break), the extra weight remains (in fact if anything I've gained a couple more pounds). While I'm obviously not thrilled with this for aesthetic reasons, I'm also reall…

Josh Garrett's record pacific crest trail accomplishment will always remain among one of the greatest heroic vegan athletes of my lifetime who walks his talk with a simple message to end animal cruelty and proving the meat industry to be the sadistic scum of the earth they are by accomplishing a truly superhuman feat of endurance involving no meat eating, no animal product eating, and I would guess no leather hiking shoes or other animal products either. I have yet to find anywhere where he distracts and dilutes the basic message to end suffering the way certain megalomaniac b.s. ego bantering idiots who insist on a specific ratio of carbohydrates/protein/fat for everyon…

Hi everyone I'm new to this forum but thought I'd sign up as I've enjoyed looking through some of the threads on here. I've lived a vegan lifestyle for just over two and a half years now. My starting weight is 68.5kg and I am 5ft 8.5inches tall. I started kung fu a couple of months ago and I am loving it. I train in Five Ancestors Fist and we also do Shoalin Five Animals. I currently train 3 times per week which equates to 5.5hrs per week. 1.5hrs on Monday night, 2hrs Wednesday night and 2hrs on Saturday lunch time. I haven't been doing this for long but it is already starting to tone up my body and I am feeling stronger. The training consists of about 50% body c…

Do any of you guys who lift weights do Yoga? I'm looking to apply yoga to my schedule once or twice a week but I don't have a lot of money or access to any yoga classes and need to self teach. I'm looking for videos or websites with simple full body routines that cover all the basics in like 30-45min. Thanks.

Hi all, Last Friday, I encountered two stray dogs fighting and they ended up nearly on top of some children. I pulled the dogs away from the kids, but managed to get bit in the bicep really bad. They actually had to stitched the muscle together. I was told it was 80% torn. I am actually surprised at how little pain there has been. My arm is tender, and I could not lift more than maybe a pound the day after it happened, but I can lift about 5 pounds now. I was told to rest it and take predisone. I did some research on this and found predisone is not good at all, and exercising will increase rate of healing. I have been stretching and working the muscle sinc…

Thoughts on the bigorexia complex. I hope you all are into lifting for the health benefits and not just because TV and magazine are telling us we need to be huge. http://time.com/2865172/bigorexia-and-the-male-quest-for-more-muscle/

Just erased the original post as I thought this subject was probably better left between me and my GP, as Cappy and C.O. advised - so as not to lead anyone else up the path of enquiring about something potentially medical on here. I honestly didn't realise when I posted it, that it may have been more than just a gym thing. If any mods feel they'd like to delete it that's fine. Sorry.

Thought this site could use a world cup thread. Sure there are some fans here since its such an international group! 1. List the teams you are cheering for. 2. Do you know of any world cup players that are vegan? 3. Who do you think will win it? For me 1. Ivory Coast and Bosnia. 2. I am about to do some googling! 3. Brazil they do home field advantage like no one else!

Anyone else do insanity? This is my second time doing it (third round), but the first time I had to modify a lot because of a health issue and didn't get the full benefit. I just started month two and it is excellent. It is the ONLY thing that has ever gotten my belly fat to go down. Since I started I haven't lost any weight, but if I took a photo everyday, I bet it would look like my belly is melting into my legs. Belly fat going away slowly, and my legs are much larger. My performance and endurance is better than at anytime in my life. I have nearly doubled my vertical jump the speed of doing pushups. I wouldn't say I have much fast twitch muscle fiber, b…

100 Yoga Poses Video # 1 100 Yoga Poses Video # 2 I went vegan 5 years ago and shortly after that I decided to give yoga a try. I had no prior experience with yoga and was not a very flexible person at all. I just wanted to share my progress with everyone here and hope that it will inspire you to give yoga a try as well.

Hey guys ! So I am vegetarian for like 5 years and vegan for one year. I don't have weight to lose at all but I wanna be more toned, so I started to do a lot of sport (6 days per week, for one or two hours) since november but I don't have the results I want, it's better but it's so damn slow ... When I see that some girls in 4 months change totally their body, I am super disappointed by me. I mean I feel my abs but the little layer of fat on it doesn't wanna leave xD . So I started the Insanity Challenge, I begin the 3rd week and I hope now I will see results soon, but someone has an ideo of what I could do wrong ? Thanks you =)

... your gym closes and clears out over night without prior warning! FUN! So now I'm looking around for a new gym now so I can keep up my weights and general fitness. It's ashame as the gym I was with was quiet enough when I went for me to just get on with what I wanted to do without being in anyones way and it had a mass of functional equipment as opposed to weight machines which just seems to be the norm around here. Looking round a brand new council run gym tonight though on a recommendation from a fried so i guess we'll see what they have there. It's just to bloody frustrating as I was realy getting into my routine again after the forced xmas break!

This is a short video of world renowned realistic martial arts instructor Geoff Thompson, i've been a fan of his since the early 90s. Despite training in different martial arts for a number of years, i always found that most systems do not prepare us for the real ugly side of self protection, aka the pavement arena. In this video Geoff talks about the ugly side and realistic application of the martial arts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQbHgD65_8E

Hi, all! I recently took action and started eating vegan, although my ethics have always lined up with not causing suffering... So far, it's been a week, and I feel great! I fight Muay Thai and really am looking to lose weight while eating vegan. I was wondering how to go about this and how much I should eat? I'm 21, 5'2", and currently 128 pounds but want to go down to 112 in order to fight in a lower weight class. (Please don't start telling me how this is "unhealthy", 112 is a healthy weight for someone my height). If you compete or train vigorously, please let me know how veganism has affected your training! Also, in the wintertime, I always seem to gain weight. …
