Lance was in Portland over the weekend. What do you guys think of Lance? Some see him as a sports God. Watching the tour, he was the guy I always cheered for, but that was basically because I didn't know any of the other rider's names Except maybe Jan Ulrich, or something like that. Anyway, thoughts on Lance?

So I haven't came here much recently I've been real busy trying to finish my first year of university. But im free now. I thought I would take this oppertunity to talk about my new "goal". Basically. I finish university in the summer of 2010, so my plan, is to start training now, and then when I finish university, to cycle around the world. I'm not attempting to break any world records or do anything special, except promote the word vegan, and hopefully make the whole "vegan thing" more acceptable, if it makes even 1 person think differently then its worth a cycle right? I have no experience at doing this type of thing, not do I have any sponsorship or even a great bike. …

Erg, I think I say this every few months.. I have been "working out" for two years. First year I was cutting all the fat I put on after two operations on my back and I lost about 90 lbs (coming down to 165lbs). Then I started weight lifting and my body is slowly growing. I've tripled my strength though bulky muscle is slow to grow. However one thing is still annoying me. I got down to about a 32/33 inch waist (I have big hips and shoulders so there isn't much fat there at all). However my stomach is still around, not big or noticeable apart from me. It's far worse when I sit down and it all "folds up" and no matter how much cardio I do, restrict my diet and so on i…

big rumour in the world of soccer is that David Beckham may play for L.A. in the MLS I could almost see this happening. He is 31 years old. He and his wife are good friends with Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. They both seem to love the limelight!! Could be interesting.

i have been hesitating to post this because i didn't want to post a rumor, but it looks now like it is pretty much set now. Affliction Clothing Company has put together their first MMA event to be on PPV. it is going to be called BANNED and will be held July 19 2008 in Anaheim, California. and they have put together a pretty good card. * Fedor Emelianenko vs Tim Sylvia * Josh Barnett vs Pedro Rizzo * Ben Rothwell vs Andre "The Pit Bull" Arlovski * Aleksander Emelianenko vs Paul Buentello * Matt Lindland vs Fabio Negao * Renato "Babalu" Sobral vs Mike Whitehead a couple things still bother me. one, how did they get Aleksander Emilianenko on the card? i had heard he …

round 2 of Total Elimination Absolute is this weekend. if you want to see what good heavyweight fighters look like, don't miss this. any one of the remaining heavyweight fighters (less Yoshido) would mop the floor with any UFC heavyweight. Not mention the Emelienenko brothers who aren't even in the tournament (Alexander was eliminated by Josh Barnett).

Spike TV is holding a tribute to Kung Fu / Martial arts movies and I can't help but laugh at the nationalism in most of the films. Especially the anti -Japanese sentiment in "Fists of Fury" - "No dogs or Chinese allowed"...it really portrays the Japanese as vile bastards! This is understandable-much like our cold war films like Rocky IV and others...(Here's some funny info...in Rambo IV the "good guys" are the noble Mujahadeen...fighting the "evil" Russians...FYI the Mujahadeen were the predecessors to al-qaeda, and the the Russians invaded Afghanistan to stop Islamis fundamentalism...my how times have changed!) Notice how westerners are often portrayed in these kung fu…

Post pictures of your bikes, achievements you've made cycling and general chit chat regarding cycling related sports. I know there's a fair few keen bikers on the site so thought it would be nice to start a thread.

Hi everyone I'm new to this forum but thought I'd sign up as I've enjoyed looking through some of the threads on here. I've lived a vegan lifestyle for just over two and a half years now. My starting weight is 68.5kg and I am 5ft 8.5inches tall. I started kung fu a couple of months ago and I am loving it. I train in Five Ancestors Fist and we also do Shoalin Five Animals. I currently train 3 times per week which equates to 5.5hrs per week. 1.5hrs on Monday night, 2hrs Wednesday night and 2hrs on Saturday lunch time. I haven't been doing this for long but it is already starting to tone up my body and I am feeling stronger. The training consists of about 50% body c…

Ok, folks, the Tour de France starts Saturday. Arguably the most spectacular endurance event in the world. And it's in the midst of a huge drug scandal again. http://www.cyclingnews.com has good coverage. Anyone going to follow it? If so, who is your favorite? I'm picking Basso or Ullrich.

Aside from weight lifting I'm sure we all participate in at least one other sport. What sports do you play? I'm interested to see the variety of athletes we have on here. In addition to bodybuilding, I also play basketball and table tennis. I'm fairly good at both, but not great at either. I used to play soccer and I was ok at that but now I'm terrible so I stick to the b-ball and table tennis and on occassion, regular tennis. I also enjoy playing football and hockey for fun, but rarely get the chance to play those sports. Sports that I'm not good at are baseball and golf, but they are also fun every once in a while. So, please share what you play or do for ot…

I recently returned from a business trip to Honduras where I saw Brazillian Judo fighters perform in the city of Valle. It really inspired me to study a martial art since I grew up in an area with a lot of school and street fighting and never really mentally recovered from my lost fights since my self-defense techniques were poor. After I got home, I went on a kung fu movie binge and watched Bruce Lee and Donnie Yen films like Ip Man, which got me really interested in Wing Chun. Which art should I study? When I was younger I was taught Tae Kwon Do, but I disliked the kick-heavy emphasis in the art. I've been looking at Judo, Aikido, and Wing Chun, although someone told …

I'm planning on taking some classes over this up and coming summer and i'd like to get some input from you more experienced martial arts people. If you've taken one class, you're more experienced than i am. I'm a big dude although i hope to drop some weight by summer. I have no injuries that can hold me back but i need to start doing some endurance conditioning if i'm gonna last in a fight. Styles i'm interested in... 1. Muay Thai 2. Ninjitsu 3. Jiujitsu 4. Judo 5. Aikido Schools. http://www.chicagomartialartsclasses.com/ http://www.chicago-ninjutsu.org/ http://team-toro.com/class.html

So I posted about the racism issues going on but are any of you watching the Euro cup? Fans? Predictions? I am a big Poland fan, I think they will at least get past the group stage. I predict Spain will win the cup. I also predict Russia will surprise some teams with some upsets. -Dylan

since we all love youtube around here, i figured we could post our favorite highlight reels of our favorite fighters. i'll start things off with these highlights of "The Neo-Samurai" Genki Sudo. http://sportsnavi.yahoo.co.jp/fight/k1/live/200405/22/photo/a05/pict/pict14.jpg here is Highlight reel no. 1. a quick look at his very unorthodox fighting style and the flashiest entrances you'll have ever see in MMA. Highlight reel no.2 is more detailed. it has alot more of his crazy entrances complete with back up dancers, and includes his knockout of Royler Gracie (pictured above) and his submission of 350 pound Butterbean. finally, here is a clip of him at Chri…

The extent to which I know yoga is from my wii fit (please don't flame me!). I was wondering what other poses are out there for me to practice with. Personally I like the Dance pose, Cobra pose and (not sure if this is yoga) Spinal Twists. I seem to have trouble with the Tree pose - not holding it, but holding it correctly. What poses do you enjoy doing?

Hey Everyone...I just wanted to see how many people here a cyclists and what type of cycling your interested in...and maybe how you may incorperate lifting into your training. Personally I'm a road cyclists but a wannabe track cyclist but I have no track to ride on...I also used to be a lifter and plan on lifting again when I know it won't make me balloon like a pumpkin. Also it would be nice to see what everyones schedule is like...I tend to rotate days in my big gears and small...judging on pain to tell how hard I can ride...if I have a scheduled easy day and I feel good I won't take it and I'll see if the next day will be an easy day. ***With any luck we'll get p…

Well, as I have stated in my intro I am a Martial Arts guy. Taekwondo right now to be exact. I don't have any competitions coming up in the near future so I am not too concerned with the short term effects. Obviously I understand after starting a new leg routine my legs will be sore and stiff, it is something I will have to suck for awhile while training and practicing. However, what I am worried about is the long term effects of building mass around the legs... I definitely can't afford to hurt my quickness and flexibility.. especially in a kicking art. Anyone have any experiences with that? Perhaps others involved in Martial Arts? I don't want to get big and cut in m…

Hi everyone, So I enjoy running and cycling and lifting weights (the last in a pretty minor way--only once or twice a week). I've recently been having problems with one foot; got new orthotics and it's getting worse. The podiatrist told me to give myself 6 weeks to adjust to the new inserts before coming back...that's in 2-3 weeks. In the meantime, I'm actually having trouble walking and so am not running much. So here's my question: Besides cycling and swimming, any thoughts on good cardio workouts that don't involve much or any footwork? I suspect the answer's no, but thought the collective brain might yield more than my solo brain. Thanks!
