Since there is a general thread regarding nutrition, I wanted to make one more specific to cycling. What do you eat on a typical training day? What do you consider a typical training day (i.e. 40 miles)? I would like to start training but I just can't seem to get enough calories in a day.

The benefits of Pilates as I have experienced them -- increased flexibility -- body conditioning -- dramatically increased strength; because of the equipment that is used in intermediate & advanced Pilates, I have had noticeable strength gains; in a considerably short amount of time. -- increased balance. (growing up a dancer, my balance has always been very good, Pilates has redefined it.) -- lengthening and strengthening of all muscles, primarily legs. -- deep breathing. The lateral costal breathing that is practiced in Pilates, to me, feels much deeper than Yoga (belly)breathing. It is more profound in the sense it allows my body to be stronger and flow thru m…

Let's start a cycling chart to post race times, mileage, etc. What are your best race times with distances listed? What about miles traveled in a day, or week? Let's see it folks! Once we get enough responses, we'll make a chart to inspire and motivate.

I just happen to watch a fitness episode Oprah was doing today (I rarely watch television, by the way..), & she was talking about how much she loves doing Pilates, and how much it has changed her body, as well as her balance, and how she feels within herself. I just thought this was soo cool..

Is anyone running 5k races this summer? They are hugely popular in the US. I used to run them all the time between the ages of 17-21 and then I quit that to start bodybuilding. Today I ran a 5k for the first time in years. I hadn't even run more than 5 times total in the past year and showed up at the race and defeated last year's champion. I ended up 5th out of about 60 and it totally shocked me. So I'm thinking that I might run as many as I can this summer for the fun of it. I'm not sure how that will work with my bulking plans, but I'll get it sorted out. Anyone else running this summer?

Tomorrow I'm competing in a Pump and Run. I have to bench press 90% of my own weight for as many reps as possible, and then run a 5K (3.1 mile race). For each rep, I get 20 seconds taken off my run time. I trained for this back in 2001 but never competed in it. So now, I get a chance to do it without training for it. These types of contests are fun! I'll let ya'll know how it goes.

Hey y'all- Just thought I'd see if there are any serious mt bikers around? I live in Mass (USA) where there aren't a lot of mountains, but there are plenty of freeride and XC areas, and I indulge in plenty of both. Any other mtbikers out there???

Is anyone watching the NBA playoffs? As far as pro sports go, this is my favorite time of year! The teams I'm cheering for are the Suns, Kings, and Cavs. Two of those teams are down in the series right now and the Cavs are up on the Wizards after an incredible overtime finish tonight! The Suns are my favorite team but they are struggling against my least favorite team in all of pro sports, the Los Angeles Lakers. The Kings were my favorite team for many years but most of my favorite Kings players were traded. I love LeBron James, so naturally I like the Cavs too. Anyway, just thought I'd see if anyone else here is interested in the NBA. My friend predicted a…

does anyone know if it is comfirmed whether he is vegan or not? not sure what to believe. i thought it was great when he left the NFL to do his own thing. funny how the media handled that story and called him everything from a drug attict to a traitor/coward. of course when pat tillman left his team to go kill people he never met they called him a hero. ricky played well in his comeback last year. voluntarily plays for the league minimum now. god forbid someonw try and find some humanity in their life. i wish he played for the steelers.

All, I am curious about how many vegans are involved in the shooting sports, either professionally/competitively, recreationally and/or as practice for shootings defensive applications. As many of you probably know, shooting for recreation and competition is done in most if not all countries, and is included in the Olympics. And of course, I do not consider hunting as a sport. Hopefully there are not very many vegan hunters! Personally, I am into firearms and shooting primarily for defensive applications. However, I am also interested in getting into recreational and competitive shooting, esp. IDPA and similar practical/tactical styles. So who else here shoots…

Haru's picks: Hughes Silva Riggs Lister Sanchez Davis(Mir's boy still?) Gonzanga Fisher Horn we should have friendly competitions and whoever predicts the most wins per event, wins that one and gets a point. Then we can keep track of points as the events go on. What do you guys think?

I use to fight pro muay thai and did a few pro boxing fights. I also wrestled in school and did some jujitsu. I've never met a vegan fighter in any of those disciplines before and I'm currios how it effects performance. I've only been vegan for a few months, so my experiance is limited. I've never felt better health wise, but I'd like to know how it's effected anyone else over a longer time period... years.

I have seen there are some fans on here and i know Rob is down. I think pro-wrestling is like alcoholism: oncce you become one you are one for the rest of your life (even if you quit). i started liking WWF when i was 6 or 7, just before wrestlemania 2. Fan for years, then stopped watching it once it became a cable only show (didn't have cable). then got back into it in 97 or so when the Rock and Stone Cold were big and ECW was taking the world by storm. Lately i have started watching it again. It helps to have Tivo to ff past all the bullsh*t (there is plenty of it) and watch the wreslters i like such as Kurt Angle, Chris Masters, and to a lesser extent Carlito. I…

wow, the Pride ppv last night was unreal. one of the bestt MMA tournaments i have ever seen. didn't look too interesting on paper, but all the fights were very exciting. i don't thing any of them even went to decision. the next round of Total Elimination Absolute is going to destroy. a best of the best tournament for MMA heavyweights (its actaully open weight, but everyone is over the 205 lb minimum).

I got this idea from hearing about the Commonwealth Games and the Gay Games. http://www.gaygames.com/en/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gay_Games http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commonwealth_games These are olympic-type events that cater to a certain demographic, so maybe we could have an olympics of our own, just for us vegans? Though I think I read that the Gay Games does not restrict heterosexuals from competing. I understand that there wouldn't be many competitors, since vegans are such a tiny percentage of the population, and that certain countries would be overrepresented (eg. England, USA, Israel, Netherlands would probably have more vegans than, say, South Ko…

Aside from weight lifting I'm sure we all participate in at least one other sport. What sports do you play? I'm interested to see the variety of athletes we have on here. In addition to bodybuilding, I also play basketball and table tennis. I'm fairly good at both, but not great at either. I used to play soccer and I was ok at that but now I'm terrible so I stick to the b-ball and table tennis and on occassion, regular tennis. I also enjoy playing football and hockey for fun, but rarely get the chance to play those sports. Sports that I'm not good at are baseball and golf, but they are also fun every once in a while. So, please share what you play or do for ot…

Does anybody know of anybody who makes custom sports gear? I need to get Pro-Wrestling boots but the ONLY option is a leather boot. I asked a company if they offered vegan options but the response was http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e11/FlyingMaple/boots.jpg ^Those are the type of boots I am looking for, except vegan^

Geocaching Anyone tried it? I did a little two summers ago and I hope to do a few this spring/summer/autumn too. I know there are some outdoorsy people here so you might find this fun. And it' a great way to get your kids (or yourself) out into the woods or into the city. Here I am after I found a cache on the highest mountain in Gothenburg (no, it's not really that high). I was sweating like crazy after I reched the top by bike. The city of Gothenburg (or parts of it) is in the background. This was two years ago. I'm much sexier now. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b145/offense74/DSC00060.jpg
