Although I love some of the articles, and have learn a lot about Strength Training and what not, I got to say that this magazine (as well as many mainstream fitness related things) is very biased towards vegetarians/vegans. Especially when it comes to soy. Anyone else notice this?

I know in the gym it isn't about doing what others can do, it's about doing what you can do. Still, I have a question. I am hoping to get my bodyfat down to a reasonable level to maybe 5-10%. I want to weigh about 180lbs at that percentage. My question is this: How much are you guys in that size range lifting? I would like something to base my progress on so I can get an idea if I am on track for that size and also to have a goal. I am currently 5'8" and 187. After dropping some fat I know I will need to build up. I am interested in bench, squat, etc. Sent from my DROID X2

Right... Menshealth is part of what is wrong in this country. While the routine may be solid I have no doubts that their angle is to sell you some type of product and sell and spam your email address; I would also being willing to wager that whatever garbage product they are hocking doesn't have any of the tenets of veganism in mind.

big rumour in the world of soccer is that David Beckham may play for L.A. in the MLS I could almost see this happening. He is 31 years old. He and his wife are good friends with Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. They both seem to love the limelight!! Could be interesting.

Sunday, I was honored to participate in a demo of Filipino martial arts organized by Guro Burton Richardson at the Ganbatte Japan Fundraiser to raise money for victims of the recent disasters. Here are some pictures (I’m the tall guy in the olive shirt)… http://fitmonkeyhawaii.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/stickshield2.jpg http://fitmonkeyhawaii.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/stickshield.jpg http://fitmonkeyhawaii.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/knifevsstick.jpg http://fitmonkeyhawaii.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/knifesparring.jpg

Hi guys, I wasn't really sure where to post this thread, so here it is... How many of you use a body fat percentage as a guide to progress? And if so, what do you use? I ask this because I'm feel disheartened with the scales not moving but I can see myself gaining muscle tone. I have used a website that someone else recommended that you enter your measurements and it comes up with what you are...A couple of weeks ago i was 28.5% and now I'm at 27.2%. This is the website I have been using: http://www.scientificpsychic.com/fitness/diet.html Any advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance

Howdy! Firstly, I do apologize if this is in the wrong section, or anything along those lines. I'm new here (kinda' obvious I suppose), so keep that in mind. Anyways, I've recently started up Thai Boxing, which I do Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. It's very enjoyable, and aside from becoming just fit in general, I would very much so like to perform optimally in the sport. On the downside, I'm not the fittest individual in the world. I have the general endurance to keep up with everyone else in the class (no doubt do to my vegan diet), but aside from that.....I'm ehh. I've acquired a sizable portion of body fat in my earlier years, some of which has shed off in the p…

Alright this might seem like a stupid question for some but I need to get some info. Is yoga contradictory to weight training? Back when I was a non-vegan builder, I was pretty big but when I tried to doing yoga it was extremely hard. Now I've been doing yoga consistently for a few months and I'm starting to do vegan body building. Will one limit the gains of the other? Thanks for help, info, or advice.

Anyone know where I can find non-leather women's boxing gloves? I love the gloves at the FighterGirls online store, but they're all cow skin :-/

First of all, let it be noted that I'm supposed to be studying for a test I have today, but I'm procrastinating. Anyway, the main question is if you could be any type of professional, e.g. bodybuilder, ninja warrior, MMA fighter, marathoner, world strongest man, etc. then what would you be? Also, who currently motivates you in your chosen field of athletics? Finally, do you think a world strongest man that crossed over to MMA would dominate in the heavy weight? Questions To The Point: - What type of professional athlete would you be? - Who motivates you in that particular field, and others? - Would a strong man dominate in MMA? My Answers: - I have a tie between bein…

Ok so here is the situation with me: I am 23, 135lbs, very toned with little body fat but also little muscle. I have tried in the past to build muscle with very little success. I won't say I am giving up on muscle building, but I want to try a new approach to fitness. I have pretty terrible endurance. I'm used to working out for less then 30min 3x a week. So endurance is my new goal. BUT I do NOT want to get any skinnier then I am! I really can't afford to lose any more weight. Here is what I am thinking: Sunday- Hot Yoga Monday- Spartacus Workout ( http://www.menshealth.com/spartacus/workouts/ ) Tuesday- Dynamic Apnea (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_apnea) / …

I have been considering getting toe shoes, which apparently has been a unique craze that's been happening for quite some time. Shoes like the one's on this site http://www.vibramfivefingers.com/index.htm First are they really safe to use for athletic purposes only. Second are there ones made from non leather material?

Friday i have a big ride, to me at least, 30 miles [very leisure though, its a huge bike party ride, TONS of people] i've done 15 miles, not a big problem except my crotch was sore like bad [that was the only reason why i couldnt go any longer, and i was a tad tired not EXTREMELY]. Before that ride i had a vega shake, quinoa, apple+almond butter, some nuts [which sounds like a lot eh?] the ride is at night [8 or 9pm], so what do you all recommend i eat the day of? I heard someone say carbs the day BEFORE are great. I bought some figs, I have some complete whole food Vega too. when should I consume both? any input? thanks! [cross posted to veganvelo]

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcsvL_oyRHE Anyone down to do this at this location? This is the closest to me (about 5 hours away ) and the earliest(next month). I would love to get some like minded people who have a general passion for fitness to do this as a group and really rock out. http://www.warriordash.com/register2011_georgia.php

Do anyone have any suggestions for measuring body fat? The health center at my work has both the hand-grip device and also calipers. The hand-grip device showed me to be significantly overweight (which I know is wrong), and the calipers seemed to be incorrect as well (showing almost no body fat in my arms and stomach [which is definitely inaccurate], but reading me as significantly overweight in my thighs [i'm a runner, and my legs are my strongest muscles!]... it could be that the nurse at the center didn't know how to correctly use the calipers). I would like to have an accurate measurement soon, as I'm just starting my training and would like to be able to track my pro…

Hi Guys! So I have been really inspired/motivated (also with this forum ) to get properly into my training now. I do Capoeira 2-3 times a week with the odd climb, hike, surf, yoga thrown in which I know is not enough so I plan to do 3 times a week Capoeira (I am grading in august) with 2xhike/run and a surf every week and bodyrock if I don't do these or miss a something (what do you think of my program?) I am also planning on hiking cotopaxi in 6 months eeek!! So My first week I injure myself! typical. On Thursday I trained hard two and a half hrs also with heavy stretching so I had a bit of the usual hamstring stiffness nest day. So that day I go to a workshop type thi…
