So this happens on my second set lol, filmed a couple months ago. Me and my buddies had our own meet that weekend, neglecting the use of clips. I think this was like a 398lbs, I recently hit a new dead lift pr of 485; I'll film when I hit 5 plates http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSz5vQDx3FI

This is my buddy Ahmad. Huge into power lifting, he lives and breathes the sport. He's just starting his own YouTube channel; This and his failed squat video are my favorite. They're so funny. He's on the Candito training program right now, and for every pound his PR's goes up by, he's donating 1$. (Bench PR 2$ per pound) There's a video on his setup. One of the most down to earth, honest and humblest guys I've ever met. Very intuitive, can back up anything he does. look at his dead lifts.. just wow. And after watching some of his videos you'll know what I mean. He'll go vegan one day;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7y0wrUIP-4

So I didn't realise how much people argued over this topic, I assumed from the fact that 5x5 one of the most popular strength training programmes around that this wasn't even an issue. In fact I plan on doing squats and deadlifts in the same day once I've got all my powerlifting gear to my new house, so anyway, what's your opinion on this subject?

Just curious really if anyone has had any experience with this, I managed to keep gaining strength whilst cutting body fat last summer and plan on doing so again as of next month. Anyone got tips? Or just have their own way of doing this?

To the point: I have trained 2 days in a row so far and want to train today as well as next week is too busy to get much in. Is this stupid? Bare in mind I'm on 5/3/1 have squatted Thursday, mili press fri, and would be deadlifting today. Thoughts? Opinions? I'm under the impression this could be overtraining but as I'm on my first mesocycle it won't be overly heavy and taxing. Thanks in advance

A quick overview... I'm currently working towards pulling 440lb at my next full powerlifting meet in April.; my longer term goal for this year is to break the New Zealand raw deadlift record for the 130-145lb weight class, 451lb as it currently stands. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35cGtqTRXkU I filmed this video over the weekend, there's an hours worth of deadlifting that's been cut down to a little over 11mins. I talk you through how I work through sets, how to structure your warmups sets in terms of reps and then we get into the bigger weights I finished up on pulling 440lb (a little over 3 x bw) off a couple of 20kg plates ~ next month I drop down to one …

Hey, I search around some of the Olympic lifting forums some times just to kind of follow the sport as I'm somewhat of a fan even though I don't compete in it myself. Someone at Glenn Pendlay's website back some months ago posed a question about "If the vegan diet is so great, where are all the vegan lifters?" And the thought occurred to me that I don't really know of any competitive Olympic lifters on the national (or above) level. Does anyone know any? I'm not really a believer that vegans should only listen to other vegans on training advice or anything like that, but it is nice to see other vegans tearing the world up sometimes.

I've been doing some online research on nutrition and what I have been finding has been less than satisfactory. I am a omnivore, and am looking to improve my knowledge on the plant side of my diet as it pertains to powerlifting. So I come to this community to learn what you guys do, to integrate and refine my own diet to optimize my own performance. So my questions are these: 1) In consuming plant-based proteins, how do vegans typically measure their intake to ensure they are complete? Do people typically mix equal parts incomplete proteins, or favour those food sources richer in BCAAs? 2) Has anyone gone through a significant bulking phase (moved up a weight class or…

If anyone is interested I found this website last year that has essentially almost all the infamous Pl routines out there. From Russian peaking cycles to Sheiko to Ed Coan's stuff. Really helpful if you don't want to read on all the calculations and guess work. http://www.joeskopec.com/programs.html It's also a great reference site for anything PL related.

I don't think this is a repeat question, forgive me if it is. I recorded a video of my squat below, but some of you may have some pretty good idea's without watching the video. My knees cave in some while I'm squatting. It's not dramatic, and I've read quite a bit of material on "why" this happens. Even Matt Winning in the "so you think you can squat" video someone posted touches on the subject, but doesn't really say much about ho to fix it. Quite a few people have recommended some accessory band work which I might try, but if anyone here has any good suggestions I'd love to hear them as well.

How much soreness do you all experience after workouts, and how long is the recovery time? Sometimes I am sore for days after a workout, especially if I go hard, and I don't know how to really alleviate it. Do I need to eat more? I feel like days I work out I eat a ton of food, but I am more sore than I have ever been. Or am I just being a baby about it? Any advice or stuff would be appreciated.

What do you do to continually improve your strength? Are there any tips or methods that have worked well for you? I'm interested to hear how some of you approach the task of consistently getting stronger, especially those of us that compete in the same weight class. I'm sure that as we get older, more experienced and our strength is already pretty good there has to be something 'extra' that is needed in order for us to get more out of our lifts

The U93kg class is lifting at the moment. Worth a look, my mate Hayden just opened with a 250kg/550lb squat and nailed it! http://goodlift.info/live/onlineside.html The live stream is great, perfect quality and the score sheet is sat right alongside it and updates after each lift

This is something I really need advice on. When you say, "Home gym" most people think of... small, spring-and-pulley systems, promoted on bad TV commercials from the 1990s. What if you want to get set up to really do powerlifting exercises at home? I have the space, and the budget doesn't matter much, because of the time and money I would save in contrast to gym fees. However... It is hard to overcome concerns about putting a hole in the floor (or, indeed, a hole in the ceiling). Has anyone else dealt with this? I realize that it is something that must have its own sub-culture, websites, or youtube channels associated with it --but I haven't seen anything of t…

Hi guys. I've seen a lot of workouts but few of them tell you how much to lift. I was wondering, how would you lift to build strength and muscular endruance? What sort of weight percentage and so on?

This is the second installment of a series for beginners. The purpose of this article is to give you an idea of what powerlifting is about, as well a general overview of diet, equipment and training. Please bear in mind that everyone has individual responses from diet, training etc, so this article should be taken as collective information rather than 'set in stone' fact This article was was first published on 12th October 2006. It was written by myself and I have directly lifted it (with a few minor changes) from the Pumping Fit website: http://www.pumpingfit.com/the-basics-of-powerlifting/ The Basics Of Powerlifting The fundamental goal of powerlifting is to…

Hi, Generally I'm 1-2kg over my weight class. Which I am fine with - it's just more tactical for me to go down a weight class (less competitors) People I know that reduce weight before cometition do it by reducing salt, using herbal teas that expell water, and restricting water intake. BUT they also eat low carb 2-3 days before (just meat/fish and vegetables). I have a competition coming up in a month. It's not an important one, but it's a good chance to try out some stratergies. The difficult part of it is that weigh-in starts at 17.00 (and I'll be at work 11-16). So, any tips for me on what to eat the last couple of days before cometition? Nuts, vegetables and …

Saw this article back in the archives on T-Nation here By the way, Dave Tate's a bit profane (and the beginning of the video warns of such), so keep that in mind before you crank the volume all the way up.

I am having some trouble with my form on the dead lift. Should this be more of a leg or a back movement? From what I can gather, the type of dead lift that i was taught is the Romanian Dead Lift. I feel like I use my back more and I can only do about 200 lbs before it really starts to tweak my back. Should you squat more for a dead lift? Any videos or illustrations would help me a lot! Thanks!

Got any 'secret' little things that you do that works well? Is there something that you do with your training, lifting technique, diet etc that isn't commonly done in Powerlifting?

For any powerlifters out there (or anyone interested in it), you should check out some of these podcasts: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/vegas-power-hour There's some really good episodes on that show and they are free to download or listen to straight from your computer, can highly recommend having a listen to a couple of them. I've already learnt a fair bit from listening to them and they have a lot of the worlds top lifters on there as well http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/481046_278893188880059_480416599_n.jpg

The purpose of this article is to highlight some of the important things for you to consider on competition day Entering Be aware of the competition date and entry requirements well in advance. I suggest lifters plan their competitive year in January and schedule events. Make it your own responsibility to enter the event on time. I have seen lifters disappointed when they miss deadlines and are unable to enter events. There is nothing more devastating more than this after the dedication of a lengthy build up. Making weight Lifters will often look to lift in a particular weight class. This is usually for competitive reasons or to break records or set personal recor…
