Saw this article back in the archives on T-Nation here By the way, Dave Tate's a bit profane (and the beginning of the video warns of such), so keep that in mind before you crank the volume all the way up.

Starting a thread to let everybody on this forum know how people go with their competitions, I know there are a few guys (and at least one girl) training for their first powerlifting meet right now. If you do a meet and I miss it, make sure you let me know and I'll post the results up in here GOOD LUCK !!

Hey all, I know this isn't strictly powerlifting and more towards olympic lifting, but I figured out of all the forums this would be the best place to post. I'm working towards proficiency in the olympic lifts and one of the steps I'm taking is to try to get super comfortable with my overhead squat. It's improving, and I'm getting more comfortable with the bar path and engaging my lats to pull the bar back and apart, but I'm having a lot of difficulty hitting depth. I can hit parallel, but this is obviously less than ideal as a position to catch a snatch. I don't think that general mobility is a problem, because I get ass to grass with barbell squats and pistol squats, bu…

I am having some trouble with my form on the dead lift. Should this be more of a leg or a back movement? From what I can gather, the type of dead lift that i was taught is the Romanian Dead Lift. I feel like I use my back more and I can only do about 200 lbs before it really starts to tweak my back. Should you squat more for a dead lift? Any videos or illustrations would help me a lot! Thanks!

Hi, Generally I'm 1-2kg over my weight class. Which I am fine with - it's just more tactical for me to go down a weight class (less competitors) People I know that reduce weight before cometition do it by reducing salt, using herbal teas that expell water, and restricting water intake. BUT they also eat low carb 2-3 days before (just meat/fish and vegetables). I have a competition coming up in a month. It's not an important one, but it's a good chance to try out some stratergies. The difficult part of it is that weigh-in starts at 17.00 (and I'll be at work 11-16). So, any tips for me on what to eat the last couple of days before cometition? Nuts, vegetables and …

The purpose of this article is to highlight some of the important things for you to consider on competition day Entering Be aware of the competition date and entry requirements well in advance. I suggest lifters plan their competitive year in January and schedule events. Make it your own responsibility to enter the event on time. I have seen lifters disappointed when they miss deadlines and are unable to enter events. There is nothing more devastating more than this after the dedication of a lengthy build up. Making weight Lifters will often look to lift in a particular weight class. This is usually for competitive reasons or to break records or set personal recor…

For any powerlifters out there (or anyone interested in it), you should check out some of these podcasts: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/vegas-power-hour There's some really good episodes on that show and they are free to download or listen to straight from your computer, can highly recommend having a listen to a couple of them. I've already learnt a fair bit from listening to them and they have a lot of the worlds top lifters on there as well http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/481046_278893188880059_480416599_n.jpg

We haven't had a post in a while, mainly because I don't think there's a lot of powerlifters or strongmen on here. But, what is everyone using as their routines lately? It's interesting to find what people are using, and what's working. I'm running the smolov Jr for both my squat and bench. A week and a half in and I'm repping more weight than before and I'm feeling more comfortable on the bench.

To the point: I have trained 2 days in a row so far and want to train today as well as next week is too busy to get much in. Is this stupid? Bare in mind I'm on 5/3/1 have squatted Thursday, mili press fri, and would be deadlifting today. Thoughts? Opinions? I'm under the impression this could be overtraining but as I'm on my first mesocycle it won't be overly heavy and taxing. Thanks in advance

Got any 'secret' little things that you do that works well? Is there something that you do with your training, lifting technique, diet etc that isn't commonly done in Powerlifting?

Eric reputedly opened up with a 'light' squat of around 930 as he wanted 1,000lb for his second lift (he smashed 1,003lb)

If anyone is interested I found this website last year that has essentially almost all the infamous Pl routines out there. From Russian peaking cycles to Sheiko to Ed Coan's stuff. Really helpful if you don't want to read on all the calculations and guess work. http://www.joeskopec.com/programs.html It's also a great reference site for anything PL related.

So this happens on my second set lol, filmed a couple months ago. Me and my buddies had our own meet that weekend, neglecting the use of clips. I think this was like a 398lbs, I recently hit a new dead lift pr of 485; I'll film when I hit 5 plates http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSz5vQDx3FI

Hey ya'll, I haven't been on here in a while, but I definitely should be here more. I've been super busy in the past year, started teaching and going to grad school full time, living off a stipend. Anyway, I've entered USAPL Raw Nationals! Thing is, it's in Colorado, I'm in Maryland... yea. Flight + Hotel = $$$ If you could send a couple bucks my way that would be amazing, just click the link below. http://fnd.us/c/6ltrc/sh/13Q4q4 Also some of my training videos are here: https://www.youtube.com/user/TheMastersofgravity

firstly I am sorry if I am posting this in the wrong place, I wasn't really sure of the best place. I am really hoping I can get some help and support from people in the know, especially as I tried signing up to another bodybuilding forum and got spoken to awfully, belittled, judged and called stupid just because I am a beginner with limited knowledge and understanding, Not to mention being told I need to eat meat fish and dairy because vegan bodybuilders are fake. So I'm really hoping I will find a more understanding home here. So my name is lexie. I'm 26 from the uk, After seeing numerous pictures of women lifting heavy weight I got inspired to get in to power lifti…
