Hi all. I apologies in advance, I saw a similar post to this from 2013, but with no response, so I thought I'd take a chance and post this anyway. I've been vegetarian for a few years and went whole food plant based over a year. I've had weight loss success while strength training but zero weight loss success while long distance running/marathons training. In the last couple of years, my focus has been less on strength and more time spent running, and haven't lost a lbs since. I'm getting ready to kick up my training in high gear again for a fall Marathon, but have ambitious time goals and think loosing 10-15lbs for the race could help. Does anyone have advice on how…

I see some of you are training for marathons. Who plans on running in one this year? Which ones and where?

Calling all vegan runners. The NURMI Study – Join us and take part in our running study! The NURMI-Study (NURMI – Nutrition and Running high Mileage) is an international interdisciplinary comparative study of running, the aim of which is to create a broad body of scientific evidence of the exercise performance of omnivores compared with vegetarian and vegan runners. A large number of participants is needed in order to provide well-founded evidence. Therefore we are inviting all runners (any distance and any level of performance) to take part in probably the most important study of running so that together we can really achieve something. http://www.nurmi-study.c…

The highest on earth is the Himalayas, known as the "third pole" of the earth. The north and south poles are too far away to be reached. Only the "third pole" seems to have a chance. We were fortunate enough to make a trip across the Himalayas during the Spring Festival this year. The China-Nepal Highway leads you to travel through Kathmandu to Lhasa, passes through Zhangmu Port, ends at the city of sunshine, with an altitude of 3650m. There is a tourist distribution center in Kathmandu. Tourists usually gather here to live, shop, and various travel agencies, hiking, mountaineering clubs, etc. This distribution center is called "Tamil". The urban pattern i…

Hello everyone! I just had a question and would like to introduce myself! My name is Austin Collins, 23, 3 years vegan. I've been recently interested in vegan bodybuilding. I've recently read the vegan bodybuilding Competitions guide from Derrick Tresize, and I just got the vegan bodybuilding and fitness book by Robert Cheeke and have been very interested in it. I'm wanting tips on and good cardio that involves no weight and is not running. I'm currently incarcerated, I'm in a work release program so I can't run and have no weights. I've been doing all calisthenics. I haven't had a chance to post any pictures here, but I've got many on my Instagram, @Austinc7g in case an…

So Ive been doing hiit cardio for a few months now and im happy with the results ive gotten. i just do 10 full sprints 10 seconds each on a slight incline in the parking lot with a minute break in between. However, I like to do squats, leg press, and other leg resistance training too. I currently do hiit twice a week and leg day twice a week. sometimes I feel sore but I go run anyways and vice versa. Am I doing too much? Whats the best way to fit both of these types of training into your week?

Hey, just joined the forum after going full vegan for a while now. I love running and weight training. I have pinpointed my goals for 2018. I am getting a lot of conflicting advice on macros and training to obtain these goals. This is my plan according to what I have read over the last weeks. Would like to hear your feedback and thoughts on it: My training goals: 1. Do a cutting phase now, then bulk after summer. 2. build more mass, get leaner. 3. Learn pull ups and muscle ups. 4. Maintain running form, oxygen uptake and treshold pace. Stats: Male 33 years. 181 cm - 76 kg Work out 5-6 hours weekly: 2-4 runs and 2-3 weight sessions. Alternate days for weight/runn…

I am mostly into Fitness, Running. I had hamstring strain for the last couple weeks and I didn't run. Meanwhile I've started doing some full body workouts/core workout to strengthen upper body and build at least some muscles. Now I'm back to running, question is how do you keep and even gain muscles capacity while running? I mean before the strain I was running like 3,4 times a week. Some were 10k runs, that makes you burn Calories and lose muscles.

What are your favorite distances, themes, styles and types of running races? Fun 5k races? Themed 10ks? Full or half marathons? What sites do you use to find out race schedules for your preferred style of running?

So since picking up running a few years ago, I had become pretty good at it. My left knee had started giving me issues, but I was still able to bag a sub-20 5K in May. Then I decided to start going to the gym again and fell back in love with weightlifting. I had a great lower body session the other day, including hitting up the squat rack for the first time in ages. Then I went to run yesterday morning and my groin exploded. I thought I was going to have to crawl home initially, but I walked it off and made it through my work day - the entirety of which is spent on my feet. It feels better now, so what do I do going forward? Has anybody else had this issue? Is it possible…

Hey all! Does anyone use Fitbit for tracking around here? I haven't been doing much running over the winter because running on treadmills kind of saps the joy from my life, but I'll be back out there pounding pavement once it warms back up. In the meantime, I'm tracking day to day with the Fitbit. Feel free to add me so we can track together!! [email protected]

I've been on this forum since its creation and don't think I have ever posted in this section before as I'm not an avid runner. Do any of you have any information, book recommendations, or websites, etc, specifically in training to increase your speed? I just checked out Developing Speed by Ian Jefferys. Have any of you read it? Think its info is beneficial?

Hello folks. Long time vegan here..(vegetarian in 1982,vegan for about 20 years, now 45 years old). my back ground is in martial arts and cross training (mainly kettle bells and jiu jitsu) broken up over the years with some running and weight training and yoga.i do NOT consider myself an athlete in any shape or form! anyway my wife and i have the crazy idea to try and run a half marathon at the beginning or march here in los angeles. The goal is good i have i been somewhat sedate the last few months (other than yoga) due to work/animal rescue. As total beginner runner do folks here think this is a doable thing? the little i have read suggests running 3 miles 3 tim…

Someone from another forum sent me here, I'm in a bit of a hurry to get out of the house so I just copied and pasted what I wrote over there below: So, I have been training for a 10k at the end of this month but have hit a wall. I am realizing my diet is crappy (way too much sugar!). I use to eat a pretty balanced diet but my sugar addiction has gotten out of hand in the last few years and I've all but forgotten how to balance my diet. I am in shape overall but not performing at maximum (coupled with asthma that has gotten worse over the years). So, I want to hit the store this evening after my rescue group adoption event. I am fine going cold turkey as that's how I w…

Okay, so maybe a little short notice . . . but I really wanted to make a team for this. 30-31st of August. Midday-Midday. 3 ranks. Solo, small team and large team. Most laps per team after 24 hours wins I wouldn't mind a small "Team Vegan". I tried searching elsewhere and basically got ZERO responses. So I thought I would try here. I probably should have tried here first! http://www.spitfirescramble.co.uk/ I'm not sure of the prizes. But to be honest a high ranking/win for Team Vegan would be more than enough for me to go home happy. Can never be too many nails in the coffin of the "weak vegan" myth! There is still a little bit of time before final submission…

I've made a pact with a friend that we will pace each other for the 2014 Auckland marathon. Plan for the first part of 2014 is a few marathons to get back into the feel of the distance (first one is an off road one at the beginning of March), plus some half marathons to help dial in the speed. Running has started to get back to a reasonable level, just need to increase the distances from now on in

Hello. I've bought myself a garmin gps enabled watch for running. I went for a short run yesterday and tried not to "die" After I've finished my run my watch displayed this "recovery heart rate" number, which apparently was 20 BMP. Now I've looked online a bit and I read that this might be a good indication of one's fitness level. As I intend to build my endurance with running, can I go with this number? Do you pay attention to this number yourself? If not, what is your motivation / measurement that you can hold on to? Only total time / distance ratio? Thanks for your replies. Bob

A thread where we can post up our running photos and inspire people to get out there and connect with nature I'll start the thread off... Time for a quick sit down and a bit of food after climbing 1,100ft in just 4km This when I was running through the Hoon Hay Reserve, reminded me of the Malvern Hills back home in the UK Thiis was taken from inside an old house known as 'Sign of the Bellbird' that was built in the early 1900's. It's built of stone but appeared to have survived all of our earthquakes unscathed. Don't build houses like this one anymore! VEGAN CALVES !! Just about to head down that track in the background, was really techni…

Have never raced a 50km before, ended up just taking it a little slower than I would run a marathon. Fairly pleased with the result and you definitely require a completely different mindset than PL'ing. SPLITS 5km: 27:30 10km: 56:00 20km: 1.52.00 30km: 2.50.00 42.2km: 3.55:00 50km: 4.45:21 CALORIES: 2,993 (624cal/hr) AVE SPD: 10.51kph AVE PCE: 5.42min/km MAX SPD: 15.54kph MAX PCE: 3.51min/km Not fast by any means but I hung in there as my goal was to finish inside 5hrs
