Hi all, I've been a vegetarian for a decade now and had been vegan for about 2 years about 7 years ago and fell off the wagon. I've been seriously contemplating going vegan for the last 2 years and am vegan at home, with a more relaxed diet when I'm out and about. I've been eating vegan about 70% of the time but it's been a total junk food diet. My diet has been atrocious, and I've decided it's time to put myself and my health first. Part of my difficulty being vegan in the past was that I'm not a confrontational person and I was constantly being attacked by people around me for my choices. My life has changed and I'm no longer surrounded by negative people, I'm more wi…

Hello, I'm only a few weeks into veganism and have been lifting for a little over a year. Excited to have a place to get some advice. I have a small frame (130 lbs), but have a good amount of muscle on me. I was a personal trainer for awhile, so I have some knowledge of what I'm doing (which I'll gladly share), though I'm hoping to learn more from all of you. As for being a new vegan; it's great! I wish I had done it sooner. In just a week, I'm already lifting more, and the stubborn layer of fat over my abs is already quickly melting away. I've always wanted to add a bit more mass, so hopefully you guys can help me with that as I now have the obstacle of a new diet…

short and sweet, I'm Rob, 27 in San Diego. I've been Vegan since early June, so I'm still pretty new to it. I haven't strayed yet and have no desire to do so. After I separated from the military I gained about 25 lbs in 3 years. Since June I have lost 13lbs and counting thanks to vegan diet and exercise. nice.

Hey! A Martial there!. I'm French but I'm living and studying Earth Sciences in Germany (Freiburg) actually. That's exactly one year I'm vegetarian and now I'm veganizing my lifestyle (it's much easier, now, as I'm in Germany ). Good night!

Hello, My name is Brian. I have been vegan for about a month now and have lost about 4-5 pounds. Is this normal? I feel healthy and eat the same as before I was vegan except no meat or animal products. I walk at about 145 pounds and am 5' 4" so how much protein should I get in a day? I was told about 70 grams of protein without working out and up to 100 grams of protein if I work out. I use Rice Protein and hemp seeds as a staple. I imagine it is normal to lose some weight as some of the pictures of the fit vegans look close to how I currently look. Thanks, Brian

Hi everyone! My name is Paola, I'm 39 years old, physiotheraphyst; I love to go running, mountain biking and hiking up on the mountains; I also did a lot of martial arts in my life, but after years of judo and kick boxing, this year I changed for the tai Ji quan-chen style. I've been vegetarian for more than 10 years, then one year ago with my partner Tania all the issues about animals became even more urgent to us and we moved to a vegan diet and style of life. Needless to say, we've never been more healthy and strong, so we decided to talk as many people as possible into the vegan world...well, it's still "work in progress", but we try anyway. Here in Italy people is no…

I am new to this forum. Vegan about 4 years. Went from 260 down to 190 out of nowhere. Found out I had diabetes 2 years ago. Whatever. I got down to 145 due to lots of cardiovascular activity, and a low fat diet. After a while I got complacent and didn't watch my diet and ran less and went back up very quickly. My goal is to get down to 8% body fat.

Hello my name is Richard I need some direction with my diet. Here is my background info. I am 41 yrs old. All my life I have eaten a S.A.D. and fastfood diet. I have also been into weight training and athletics. I have always been a fairly big guy. At age 20 I stopped working out and went from 195 lbs to 350 lbs. . About a year and a half ago I got tired of being fat. So I swithed over to a raw vegan diet. I have now lost 100 lbs. I did the raw vegan diet with some slips for about 8 months. I then got very tired of it and switched to a vegan diet I have now returned to weight training. Man I sure love weighttraining. I trained a lot thru the years and it has carryied …

I've been lurking around for a couple weeks and finally decided to register. So, here I am! I've been vegetarian for about 2 months now and hope to be completely vegan soon, but I am trying to ease into it. I started out at 246 lbs. and now weight 231 lbs. Not too bad. However, I fear that much of my weight loss has been muscle. I have not been good about working out at all lately and the few times I have lifted weights I have felt very week. It's not that the weight feels heavier, but I have found that I hit a wall without warning while doing my sets. This is very abnormal for me. Am I not getting enough protein or carbs, or... ? Despite this, I am very excited about cre…

Just wanted to say a quick hello to everybody. I'm new to this site and kinda new to veganism. I just switched to vegetarian this past year and to vegan about 1 month ago. The energy is throught the roof!!!! I've been working out and lifting weights for about 9 yrs and have recently taken the plunge into veganism. After years of personal trainers and dieticians discouraging me from vegetarian let alone vegan diets, I can no longer eat or accept the eating of innocent animals to sustain my fitness lifestyle. Finding this site is uplifting. I just read the Thrive Diet and currently use Vega protein powder as opposed to my old standby whey. I'm on pre order for the v…

Hey Everybody:) I've actually never been part of a chat room... so this is all quite new. Bare bones: My name is Michael. I'm 33 and living in Los Angeles. I've been a vegan since January of '97 (man! that makes me feel old!) I was a vegetarian for approximately 3 years prior to that. I've been an active/regular gym goer for about 7 years. However, it's only within the last year that I've truly tried to put on weight. I've put on nearly 15lbs over the last 3 1/2 months! Totally stoked! I was 157.5lbs. at my last weigh in. Hoping to hit 160 by the New Year (personal goal). Running into new obstacles daily. Hoping to pick your collective-brains over the next yea…

Hello! I recently moved to portland with heartgoes, and am not vegan. more like vegan-curious. I am not opposed to it, it just differs from the culture i was brought up with (hawaii/asian - lots of fish!). I don't use dairy products, and generally use whole/fresh/raw foods. But I am interested in trying out the change and seeing how it works. We recently attended the vegfest and I was very happy with it. We saw you posing in the hall outside of the exhibition hall. I'm already very supportive to my vegangirl - i cook her vegan meals quite often, and encouraged her when she first started. I'm hoping to use a lot of the advice here and get to where I want to be in ter…

Hi everyone! I'm a vegan of several years but new to the forum. It's nice to see so many other health-conscious vegans here! Me: While I've always been dedicated to fitness, I've found it hard to get back in shape over the past few months after a "less invasive" heart surgery. I'm here for tips on how to get back in shape and continue being fit/building in the future. I'm female, 25 years old, 5'6", 140 lbs., eating 5-6 small meals/day (~1800 cals.), drinking about 64 oz. of water daily, with about 20% body fat. I usually do cardio for an hour twice a week and weight-lift 2-3 times a week (several sets with ~15 lbs. free weights). I can't seem to lose any more we…
