Hi, Like title says, I've been vegan since Sept 2016 and started out new modified vegan diet and exercise in April of this year. I'm sticking with strength training since mid-May. Here's the tricky part, I'm trying to build muscle as an ectomorph (technically meso-ectomorph). My calorie intake is about 7500, I try to get at least 170-180 g protein in a day with plant based protein powders, vegan creatine, plant based protein drinks, nuts/seeds/beans/greens. I also get extra b12 in vegan oral spray supplement. I workout 5 times in a week, max weight 4 sets of 8-10 reps. Oh, I also try to get some fat and lots of carbs. I try to get 8 hrs sleep if possible. I workout…

Greetings from Greenville, SC! This is Erin, 29, and I'm competing in my first figure show June 15. I posted my "six weeks out" pic in the progress section but realized I never completed an intro. I love my job, which is teaching personal training at a technical college. My students are fascinated by my lifestyle and much more open minded and inquisitive about it than I thought they would be in this part of the country. I have proven to them that a person can be strong, healthy, beautiful and have tons of energy on a plant-based diet, and I try to give them as much information as I can so they can help clients who are interested in going vegetarian or vegan. I have…

Greeting from Honolulu! I’m a Certified Natural Trainer II, trained by Jon Hinds at Monkey Bar Gym, and an instructor in both Burton Richardson’s JKDU/MMA for Street Self Defense as well as Battlefield Kali. I'm also a freelance writer and editor, and blog about animal rights issues at Change.org. A longtime animal lover, I half-heartedly experimented with vegetarianism a few times over the years before finally committing myself in January, 2007. I still ate eggs for a while, but gave those up fairly quickly. Dairy was a little harder, but so far this year I haven't had any dairy products, nor do I intend to! Though I went veg purely for ethical reasons, the effects o…

Aloha, my name is cory. Im really happy to have found this site. Been a vegetarian vegan on and off now for 2 years(holidays and family pressure kill me) I gotta say that I'm ready to be a full on raw vegan. I know in my heart that is what I want and every one else I know will just have to deal with it. I'm trying to get into body building aswell. I use to play semi pro hockey and since than I have let my body go alittle. Weight shot up to 250lbs in a year and that is when I went vegetarian and lost 70 lbs in a year. I'm motivated now to get in the best shape of my life and stay on the path of raw Veganism. I hope to meet some great people on here and hope I can help some…

Just starting out with lifting, at home with dumbbells. Worked out before a few years backs at Gold's Gym. Now i'm moved to Philly and has a little more space, so gonna attempt home 'workouts. Been vegan for nearly 2 years and on and off vegetarian for about 5-7 years prior. Became vegan for love of delicious food and the enviroment. Though i support the anti-cruelty against animals, i'm not a animal lover. I checked out this forum a few times over the past months and wanting to support and give happiness!

hi all! i'm so excited to be joining such a wonderful community! i've always been active, and got into bodybuilding during college (at the time i was a meat eater). in grad school, i picked up ashtanga yoga and ultrarunning and stopped lifting heavy weights (though i still miss the smell of iron at times...). through yoga, i met my husband and the man who would inspire me to go vegan (he's been vegetarian for 15 years and vegan for 10). i had already become intrigued about veganism b/c one of my ultrarunning idols was scott jurek, who is vegan. i see mark coates has a profile here too! (a quick shout out to mark - i used to run with the VHTRC folks - organizers of t…

Hey everyone! My name is Jason and I'm typing this from Hawaii I've been vegan since December 1st 2007 and I'm loving every second of it! After spending some time getting really out of shape, I've finally managed to get myself on a 6 day "on" / 1 day "off" workout routine. I'm still searching for what works for me and I've already discovered that Bikram Yoga is not for me hehe. So far I'm mostly using my own body weight for exercises but I'm interested in incorporating more weight lifting into my workouts. I'm on the lookout for some vegan weight lifting gloves. Any recommendations? **EDIT: Oh Duh... I just looked around for 30 seconds after my initial posting…

Hey guys just joined the site, been a vegan now for nearly 2 years but was a vegitarian for around 3 years previous. my training history started when i was 17 at college and i trained mainly for strength. i guess my training really kicked off when i started going to a gym called hercules in colchester owned by Scott Horton who does loads for body building and is a giant of a man, with his help and guidance i trained up and entered into londons strongrest man novice comp and i came 15th out of 25 (not bad considering i was 18 and the person nearest my age was 24). Unfortunately after training this intense for a while i contracted a hernia and lost 4 stone in total…

Hi everyone! Been trying to post on here for a while, think I've got things figured out now! Thanks Richard for all your help! My name is Jen, I'm doing a figure show in April in the Midwest. I've competed one season 2.5 years ago but hated how felt with the diet I was on. I'm in the process of switching over to a vegan lifestyle but am struggling with how to fit it in a competition diet. Right now I eat a lot of fish and an occasional chicken breast. I have gotten away from the whey protein powders and am using rice instead. I love how i feel eating this way, but I am 13 weeks out and need to step things up a bit. Any suggestions on where to search on this site and in…

hi, I didn't introduce myself on the official place yet, so I make up for my lapse... since 16th April I have an training log, you find it here: viewtopic.php?t=6655 I'm vegan since 6 years, before that I was 3 years vegetarian. now I'm 31 years old. I take part at lelle's contest. my aims are gaining weight, building muscels but also gaining endurance (I'm training at the gym but also have swimming training). so I have a functional conflict. eating regulary had no preference in my life - I'm changing it right now. I'm logging my details to motivate myself. I don't know how far I will come building muscels (a friend is angry about that, but I won't stop swimming).…

I've followed a mostly vegetarian diet for most of my life, but only went vegan about half a year ago, shortly before turning 22. I started going to the gym when I was 15 or so, but I became tired of it after about 6 years. The thing is I lost about 30 kilos and my body shape changed quite a bit, but besides that, I made little or any progress. No muscle gain, no improvement in definition or tonification. Nada. I guess it was a result of poor (or lack of) guidance. By the time I turned 21, I came across Pilates and ashtanga yoga, and decided to give them a try. Being bulky had never been my aim, I rather just wanted to stay slim, lean but toned as well. After a shor…

Been Vegan now for about 6 months, so pretty new. Just moved to Bangkok for an extended holiday and really like it. The vegan lifestyle is a little more challenging but nothing I can't handle. Love CrossFit and look forward to being part of this group!

Hullo, I'm Amelia. An introduction at last, after I joined about three months ago and have skulked the forums in study breaks without saying much. Not really sure which part to write so I'll just say it all. I've went vegan overnight about 6/7 months ago, having previously been more carnivore than omnivore. It wasn't really a conscious decision, it just happened, I found I didn't want to eat meat/dairy anymore. Then the compassion side has kept me 110% committed since then (even have the tattoo, ahem, which I'm appropriately self-deprecating about but love). I never realised that my conscience was so weighted down until I cleared it. Health and fitness wise... I've ha…

Hi! I'm a vegan mom of two who stumbled upon this site with the help of my wonderful vegan body building boyfriend. I've also recently become interested in bulking up. For the longest time, I was soley concerned with being "thin". Now, 50 lbs later,I see thin women as in health as poor as mine used to me. So, I'm enlisting the help of this site to get me in gear.

Hi everyone, I'm from Toronto Canada and been plant strong for about a year now. I've had bloating, digestion issues and chronic fatigue for the past several years and was 40 Lbs overweight but my wake up call came last march when I started getting chest pains and sporratic arhythmia so I went to see the doctor to got a blood test. My test results showed I had high cholesterol and required I go on cholesterol lowering meds immediately. I never considered a change of diet until I watched forks over knives and started doing my own research by following people like Dr. Mcdougall, The Esselstyns, and Durianrider. Gradually I switched from the common meat based diet to a …

Hello All, I'm 26 years old guy from Helsinki, Finland. I've been going to the gym for few years now, although it used to be somewhat secondary thing after running and biking. Now, for the last half a year I've really started to focus on my workouts to get some actual results. I was very used to going to the gym three-four times a week and never had any motivation problems so I figured it might be the time to step up a level. Currently I'm 177 cm (5'9" I think) and 75 kilograms (165 lbs). My veganism started just little less than two years ago, after being lacto-ovo-vegetarian for some three years. Sometimes I wish I would've thought about it little earlier but better…

My name is David. I am 50 years old, married for 27 years. We have 2 boys aged 19 and 16 and we have all been vegan, pretty much following the McDougall eating plan for about 15 years. Yes, our boys has been vegan most of their lives with all the heath advantages associated in eating that way. Although my wife and I are 164 and 166 cms respectively, our oldest is about 182, built like a giant refrigerator and our youngest is around 178 cms tall with a medium build. I have been a gym junkie since 1992, mainly focussing on indoor treadmill running with the past 15 years split between running, rowing and weight training. I attend the gym in the mornings, which is great for…

Hey Everyone, I'm new in the forum so I thought I'll say HI!!! I'm a Lithuanian girl living in the UK and I'm vegan about a year now (mostly for the health reasons). My recent diet is probably 70% raw, normally I just eat some cooked food for my dinner and stay raw most of the day. I started going to the gym few months ago and I've just got carried away - fell in love with my classes (Bodyattack, Bodycombat and Cxworks) and now I'm dreaming about lean body and abs! I still need to lose some weight though and the fat just loves to sit around my belly, so I know it's going to be a hard work, but I'm very serious about it! Wish me luck! Regards, Original
