Someone PMed me asking where I buy my vitamin b-12 supplements, so I thought I would post that here in case anyone else is interested. Jack Norris, a Registered Dietitian (RD) and a cofounder of Vegan Outreach in his Daily Recommendations For Vegans recommends 25 - 100 micrograms of vitamin b-12 in lozenge daily. You can also choose to take a larger lozenge twice a week, but I find doing it every day makes it easier to remember. I buy these from Freeda Vitamins. I buy 4 bottles, a supply for a year, once a year, to save on shipping costs. It costs me ~ $30 a year, with shipping, or about 8 cents a day.

I'/ve just tried something that I had to share. It is sooo good! People here may have tried Pure Trim and if not, I recommend it. It's pricy but it is vegan and full of all sorts of healthy things. It is creamy, thick and delicious and makes me feel like I am having something I shouldn't be. I practically feel guilty eating the whole thing at once... I have tried a lot of shakes, both vegan and non-vegan and so many of them are either gross or make me feel ill because of the ingredients that upset my stomach. Puretrim does none of that...and I won't mention a brand name but it is sooo much better than the other protein meal-replacement powder out there If you ar…

Apparently, on the genetic engineering front, they are looking to put fish genes into strawberries so the berries wont freeze. Not sure if this has already happened or if it is in the 'research' stages but beware if you are eating GMO foods that they may have animal genes in them, like these literally fishy strawberries. I try to stay away from Frankenstein foods as much as possible. scary stuff. dont you love how they were just 'sneaked' into the market without anybody bothering to ask or inform us consumers?

Do you watch peple around you at the gym? Share your stories The reason I put this in the health and nutrition thread is because I was watching this lady who was so skinny it look as though her bones were going to brake in half. It didn't look healthy. She had no butt no chest. Her legs and arms were limb she had a sunken face I'm not in any way trying to make fun of her body image. But she didn't look well. Would anyone tell me why people go through disorders to the point were they know they're killing themselves in order to stay thin?

Pumpkin Seeds An amino acid score of 136! Thats the highest I've seen for a plant based food. Pumpkin seeds were higher than eggs, beef, chicken, soy, and pretty much everything else high in protein that I looked at. If anyone finds a plant based food higher, post it. What a great macro nutrient profile too... 50% Carbs - 36% Fat - 15% Protein I wonder who would be jumping on this if they made it into a fat free protein isolate powder?! I've had some sitting in my fridge for months but haven't touched them, maybe they will be my secret muscle building weapon.

Watermelon is high in citrulline, which your body converts to arginine. This in turn increases nitric oxide in your muscles which helps them grow stronger. So the point is: Eat lots of watermelon!

Okay, I exaggerated. Not "never." Somebody was telling me the other day that there is this new drug (or shot or something) that a woman can take which causes her to get her period only TWICE A YEAR!!! Sign me up! Ahhhhh the freedom. Freedom from cramps, freedom to travel for longer than a mere two week vacation, did I mention freedom from debilitating cramps? freedom, freedom, freedom.....in many ways, shapes and forms.... Sign me up!

Help! Hahaha! I was on a mostly raw diet and then I moved in with my boyfriend ( who LOVES to cook, btw) and I've fallen off the raw wagon. Anyone have any good recipes/ ideas for meals that I can introduce him to? I'm still fairly new at this, so I haven't really gotten a chance to really experiment with it either. I have noticed a big difference in my energy levels.. On a raw diet I have way more. I also feel better mentally. Today I had trouble doing simple tasks at work cuz my mind was so cloudy!

I'm also a Raw Foodist and I was vegan beforehand. Once I switched to being raw, I was shocked at how everyone all of a sudden felt that it was cool to consume Honey, Bee Pollen, Royal Jelly and beeswax for beauty products, I don't get it? It's so widespread and accepted amongst most raw foodists also and the majority of the biggest raw food 'icons' praise the use of these products and sell them on their sites. I had to watch out during raw food potlucks and ask about the deserts. There are so many substitutes for Honey: Yacon Syrup, Agave Nectar, Stevia Leaf, Agar Agar, Maple Syrup (not truly raw but it's vegan and many raaw foodists use it anyhow). And as for b…

So, I was having a discussion with someone about Veg benefits and he was die hard saying the following and would not budge. Whats the reality? 1. Sex Drive - Is way much higher for people who eat meat. Vegetarianism can lead to impotency for a lot of people? What are Veg FOODs & SUPPLEMENTS that can help ? 2. Same thing about Testosterone - I am not sure if 1 is a subset of 2 or the other way around. Testosterone is the key driver for SEX drive ? or are there other ones? Is SEX a key driver for Testosterone? Which one affects the other and what other things affect both?

The Rationale of Food Combining From The Natural Hygiene Life Science Course by Dennis Nelson From Living Nutrition Magazine vol. 16 http://www.livingnutrition.com ©Living Nutrition Publications. All rights reserved. The principles of food combining were first explained in the earlier part of the 20th century by Dr. John Tilden, M.D., author of Toxemia Explained, and Dr. William Howard Hay, M.D. Their work was followed by that of Dr. Herbert Shelton and is continuing with the doctors and teachers of the Natural Hygiene movement. This is not to imply that those people "laid down the law" about how we should eat, but rather that they observed how the human body…

Raw or not, Post up your favorite Smoothie/Protein Shake recipes. Lately i've been using soy powder, since rice tastes terrible. I'm going to look into pea powder and hemp powder (I found Nutiva for 10 dollars ) next, or in addition to the soy, i'm not really fond of soy isolates. Anyways, lately mine has been like this: Blackberries Blueberries Oats Soy Protein Powder Glutamine Powder Flax Seeds Raw Agave Nectar I'd like to get some more ideas on how to make some.

Is it just me or do most (not all) raw foodist look like shit? it makes me wonder why that's the case because in theory it's the best diet there is and should make you look better. My theory is that it's becasue the people that tend to gravitate toward raw food are people that either feel really bad or looked really bad. Most people that feel great and look great feel no reason to change. my self i got into raw food becasue i've felt really bad. Most the people i know would never change there diet's becasue they feel great by default. Even most the so called guru's look like absolute crap and more than likely don't perform very well. Some people like Dr Graham look …

Hi! New 811rv here and I need some advice. I've been trying to go 100% raw for the last few weeks. However, I kind of fell off the bandwagon yesterday. While at work, I was feeling a little hungry so I bought a couple of packages of sesame seed sweet crackers. I felt awful afterwards, itchy all over, runny nose and everything as if I was having an allergic reaction, yet I used to eat them all the time. I'm learning more and more about the whole mucous stuff forming as a defense and I'm really starting to believe it. Could someone give me more details about this please. Ciao

Just curious if their are any long term vegans here who started eating meat again for whatever reason and then went back to being vegan for whatever reason... I post at a non-vegan body building website as well. Every once in a while a vegan diet thread comes up. People always chime in with stories about how they were vegan for 5 years, started eating meat again, and felt much better. Maybe some were lacking nutrients or maybe it is all mental but makes me wonder. Seems like a lot of people become vegan thinking it is an easy sure fire way to lose weight. It is harder to cut up on a vegan diet, especially in body building. I have been vegan since 2004, veggie since 1994. …

When does the amount of vitamin C and D you intake become irrelevant? I've thought about this a lot when I see high contact sports athletes break bones and was very curious to if you can prevent it by taking the maximum safe amount of bone strengthening nutrients?
