Thought I'd throw up a good "recipe" idea here. I was just thinking that you all may enjoy this if you haven't tried it yet as I just heard of this idea a month ago and love it. I love homemade stirfry but really don't always want the carbs for rice. So take a head of cauliflower(sp), throw it in a food processor, and chop it up until it's rice size pieces. Use it in place of rice. Super good, and so good for you. And very carb conscious if you're dieting or watching calories.

http://www.melissas.com/images/products/642a.jpg I found this at my local HFS. It comes in a 'casing' & you squeeze out what you need. It crumbles very finely as it is fried. I added it to my tofu scramble & it was quite good. It would be very good in tacos, burritos, etc., too. Nutritional info & recipes here: http://www.melissas.com/catalog/index.cfm?Product_id=642&Info=YES

Great stuff. You will need: A blender: the best investment I ever made! 100ml cold water (pour this into blender first: if you put the chick peas in first you make it hard on your blender) juice of 1 lemon 1 garlic clove, finely chopped/crushed 200g chick peas (I buy them ready to eat: glass jar rather than tin) 1 tbsp tahini 1 tbsp olive oil Blend the ingredients together. If your blender has trouble blending, you can give it a hand: unplug your blender and use a wooden spoon to mix the ingredients up a bit. Give it a final whizz and you're ready to go. Great served with salad and pitta bread.

okay calling all master chefs. Does anybody know how to bake a vegan chocolate cake with chocolate and blue frosting? I'm having a weak moment, and that is my non-vegan weakness. I think I should make a whole cake that can be frozen and that way I dont have to fight any evil temptations. One of these days, I am going to get me a vegan desserts cookbook.

I made this the other day & it was awesome!!! 2 cups water 1 cup brown rice (I used white to use up the last bit I had) 1 1/4 cup of soy milk (I used light vanilla soy milk) 1/3 cup of raisins (I didn't use) 1/3 cup of brown rice syrup or maple syrup 1 teaspoon vanilla 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon ginger (I did not use) 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg In a medium saucepan, place the water & bring to a boil. Add the rice, cover, reduce the heat to low & simmer for 35min or until done. Add all the ingredients, stir well & continue to cook the mixture over low heat until all of the liquid has been absorbed. Transfer the mixture to a bowl & place in…

I'm imagining making these involves a food processor and soaked nuts/seeds, perhaps some salt or other spices. Anything else? Anyone (raVen)?

http://www.attilahildmann.com/en/bloodyharry/bloodyharry.htm Attila's "Bloody harry" sandwich - hope when I make it it turns out looking just as restaurant worthy. It will probably not on the second thought, maybe I will have that for lunch tomorrow and get me some of this: http://www.attilahildmann.com/en/spaghetti_mushrooms/spaghetti_zucchini_cream.htm

Has anyone tried frozen veggie loaf made by Amy's? It also has a gravy on it. It's sooooooo good. I tried making veggie loaf a few times but mine always comes out so bland. I don't mind buying frozen but I would prefer to make my own. I want one to taste as good as that one does. I'm wondering if anyone has some really tasty veggie loaf recipies with a gravy? Thanks for any information

I thought I'd post the icecream here, CrispyQ. This is the best homemade vegan icecream I've ever had. I used to make it all the time and it never failed me. No one guessed it was vegan. It is especially nice, since it is a base from which you can make any flavor. I'll post Crispy's Peppermint variation request. This is actually very easy and it will be perfect if you follow her directions and use the ingredients she calls for. She's got lots of variations for this base... ------ BRYANNA CLARK GROGAN'S GELATO VEGAN ALLA VANIGLIA -Adapted by Bryanna, from "Nonna's Italian Kitchen, by Bryanna Clark Grogan You can use the basic recipe to make up your own favorite f…

Good news: I bought agar agar! Now I never have to go without hospital food again. (Actually, I needed it to make pie...which I haven't yet...) anyhow, my first two attempts have been crap: first I used tea (sweetened) but the "jello" came out as hard as gummy bears, and with no flavor. (diet food...haha!) then I tried using all natural root beer, and the consistincy was ALMOST what I was looking for, but not quite. Still a little too hard. Unfortiantly, it tasted like shit. Right now I'm making coffee to make into more jellos. I am really really looking for the same texture as geletin, but I haven't had it since I was eight! Am also looking for good flavors--orang…

I've got some potatoes. I've got some kale. I decided to invent a potato-kale soup (with some garbanzo beans in, ' cuz I like them). I've got the basic idea figured out, but need some suggestions for seasonings. (And, yes, I could look in a recipe book, but this is so much more fun!)

Why the heck haven't I made this before? Well . . . because those itty-bitty packages of basil are so darned expensive ($2.99) & I would need at least 3 of them. So last week I found a large package of basil for only a dollar more & it was easy 3 times the amount of the small packages. So I pulled out Vegan With a Vengence & made her pesto. I also treated us to her tofu ricotta. Oh man, the pesto rocks! I have so missed pesto since giving up cheese & it is so nice to have a tasty vegan pesto. It was very easy to make, too. So, I experimented & mixed all of the pesto with the tofu ricotta & then mixed the pesto/tofu mixture with cooked penn…
