Hey all! One of the things that I had a really difficult time with when I was trying to switch over to a whole foods based diet rather than relying on processed, pre-made meals was just finding the time to make nutritious meals. We're all busy, we've all got limited time to hang out in the kitchen and a lot of us are trying to eat 2500+ kcals a day which can be plain difficult on a whole foods diet. The best way I've found to work around this is to make gigantic portions of foods that freeze well and to freeze them in individual portions. I generally only cook for two people (my girlfriend and myself), but when I'm in the kitchen it's more likely to look like I'm cooking …

While I really enjoy the food i make and so does my boyfriend and family, I hate cooking for guests because i am always afraid they won't like the food. I want to make a list of 10 things to make for meat eating/non-vegan guests. What are some meals you have served to meat eating friends and they liked?

My wife came across this stuff at Costco and we've been using it for a while now. I actually like it better on toast and for cooking than the earth balance stuff, but haven't tried baking with it yet. The best part (other than being vegan of course) - no palm oil! Some of their other products contain palm oil, but their statement (like so many other manufacturers) is that they are moving away from "non-sustainable" palm oil. This is the best one I have made thus far and it is completely flexible in what you want to use I added in most of the optional ingredients and I recommend adding more moisture to it. I love snacking on these babies!!! Averie’s Vegan No-Bake Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Protein Bars Ingredients 1 Ripe Banana (mashed) 1.5 c Oats 1/2 c Shredded Coconut (I used sweetened) 1/2 c Raisins (or date chunks, cranberries, craisins, dried cherries/mangoes/apricots/etc. Any dried fruit will work) 1/2 c Chocolate Chips (or carob, butterscotch, white chocolate chips, etc.) 1/2 c Maple Syrup (or agave, yacon syrup) 1/2 c Peanut Butter (or any nut butter, i.e. almond, pecan, cas…

Well I got a really good Kenwood food processor for Christmas which has a liquidizer for smoothie making on it. One question I have is, when I try to make some things it just cuts the vegetables up into tiny little chunks, not bad... Works better with fruit but still.. Also some times it has a problem in "pulling" some stuff down into it. Should I be adding stuff one bit at a time.. Should I use more water to make it smoother?

I guess I'll put this in the recipe thread.... so having spent way too much than I would like on protein powders, i was thinking; using the example brown rice protein. Surely it cannot be powdered brown rice (wholefood) minus the fibre (and somehow fat) right? That would make the assumption that the carbs are the fibre and the fat, i dont know how that is extracted. So my question is does anyone know how protein powder is made and/or have a recipe to make their own protein powder? Coming from wholefood sources, I imagine vegan protein powder, soy, pea, hemp, brown rice powders would be easier to make than say whey powder.

I have always been a big lover of carbs, my mom used to call me starch queen. I am going to Thailand in a week and I want to be good and eat low carbs until then and also learn some new recipes and ideas for when i get back. Generally vegetable soups, chili, and stir-fry are my go to low carb foods. Also i live in China so I can't get like fake meats and cheeses and etc. so the simpler the better! thank you for any ideas. =)

Hi guys and gals. I was wondering, for those who sprout their lentils, how often do you keep them in rotation so you've always got some?

Hey all, I currently live in Michigan where we have a local company called Mama Mo which specializes in homemade seitan and hummus. I buy my seitan from both this company and the prepackaged chicken-style seitan from Nasoya, and both companies store their seitan in liquid just like how prepackaged tofu is typically stored. The problem is that when I try to cook this seitan over the stove, it's often still rather "soggy" tasting and takes a long time to cook. What's the best way to cook this seitan? I've never dried seitan or tofu prior to cooking before, so I'm not sure what the best technique is.

Eh, tofu is going way up in price, I could get Tempeh but the shop I know can't always get it in. Apart from lots of lentils and quinoa is there anything else we can have? Even if it's tofu styled burgers I don't care as long as it's something (and not majorly unhealthy)

It's getting cold up here in the mountains and mom and I like to have hot cocoa in front of the fire. So here is my super duper yeti approved hot cocoa recipe. Makes two 10oz cups 2.5 TBSP organic cocoa powder (12-14gg) 1 heaping tsp Stevia (= 1TBSP sugar( 4g-5g) 1, 2, or 3 tsp maple syrup (You need to dial it in for sweetness, I hate table sugar and refuse to use it) 10oz water 10oz non-milk (I like a creamy vanilla non-milk, if you use almond or rice milk, perhaps use a bit more cocoa) Dash of cinnamon Dash of all spice Dash of ginger Dash of vanilla So, throw all this crap in a jar, shaker, whatever and shake it all up, dump it in a pan and heat on med while whi…

I found this recipe that for a mock chicken seitan that I really like. Here's the breakdown: 177 grams Vital Wheat Gluten 21 grams Almond Meal/Flour 1 tbsp(18 g) Soy Sauce 1 Tablespoons Nutritional Yeast 1 tbsp Olive Oil Plus some poultry seasoning It's a bonus because even my 11-year old will eat it. I really like it because for every 28g it's 17.5p/5.4gC/3.2g fat, which is a terrific protein to carb ration when eating vegan. I am not too familiar with the nutrition of it in terms of bodybuilding, like some say tofu should be limited because of its estrogenic effects (though I've read conflicting information about that). Any comments by those in the know on…

Hi all, I've been thinking of trying a raw food plan like on the main website as I've got a few lb's of bodyfat still hanging around that just isn't going away on my current diet. One question I have, I've seen some plans that use beans, typical things like soy beans and the like.. What do you do about them as you HAVE to cook them, even if they come pre cooked out of a can as they are toxic if you don't.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my VBBF gym bros and gals! I present to you ... The Unturkey! As seen on vegansaurus My wife and I are not that ambitious that we want to try it this year (we are expecting a few guests) so we will be trying a turkey roll by Vegetarian Plus. The same brand offers a whole mock turkey, but I don't know how I feel about fake meat being made to resemble the actual animal... http://www.vegeusa.com/VegeUSA/products/alter-holiday.html Has anyone had any experience with the Unturkey?

I'm starting from poor muscle and 15-20 lbs fat and I'm trying to come up with a smoothie that has 1/3 of my daily protein requirement. I need a recipe with nothing but food- no powders. My weight is 210, I've been a vegan since Dec 2011. My diet is not balanced. Thank you.
