My man! Jay Cutler just upset Ronnie Coleman and won the Mr. Olympia! I got two e-mails from him just about 4 or 5 days ago and he said he would make me proud. I've known Jay for over half a decade and he's been a big supporter of me and I've been a big supporter of him. Even though he's not vegan and not natural, he's one of the guys who got me into this in the first place. Perhaps I wouldn't still be bodybuilding if it weren't for him. If you ever get a chance to meet Jay, you'll know what I mean. He's a totally awesome guy! I'm up in Canada so I didn't see the Olympia this year, but the photos look amazing! Check out www.flexonline.com or www.bodybuilding…

I saw Johan mention this a couple of times, and saw that John Berardi recommends it, so I decided to look into the research. It looks like some fairly substantiated stuff. Many studies combine it with creatine in the experimental group, but even so, it has shown better results than one of the controls, which only used creatine. So, does anyone use it for lifting? I know it is also an endurance/cardio supplement, but I am most curious about it in regards to lifting. I did a search, and found several users who said they were about to try it, but now one who had yet. I bet some have tried it by now.

Condensed version: I'm trying to get to under 10% BF and I feel like I'm starving all the muscle off my body, how should I feel and how aggressive can I get with dieting and cardio? i'm very worried about overdoing it and loosing muscle, but at the same time, it seems like the conventional stuff just won't let me get past about 15% BF Hey everyone, I haven't been on the forum that much recently. Been training and all, just no time for posting! But well, I really need some help. If there are any vets out there, people who have done contest etc, help me out here! I've been training for about 3 years now, maybe a bit more, and I've always been plagued with the same pro…

Vegan of several years here and infrequent lifter currently attempting starting strength (again.) Feeling discouraged lately due to some personal setbacks in the gym (lower back pain resulting from bad deadlift form and now subsequent fear/caution of pulling anything too heavy) coupled with lurking of the Starting Strength boards and their general disapproval of vegetarian and especially vegan diets (namely the lower levels of BVs and PDCAAs in plant food vs. animal-derived foods) has left me with some serious doubts of the effectiveness of a vegan diet for strength and size gains for a majority of people. Tired and leery of the disjointed nature of a chunk of the ve…

My chest size has increased to 39 inches (when measured at widest part of chest). I am only 143 pounds. Three months ago it was 37 inches and I did pushups religiously to increase it. 1) First, is this size okay for a guy my weight (143) and height (5'10")? 2) Second, I want to increase it further but due to my current position, I have no access to gym and have to rely solely on pushups, dips, etc. They say only heavy lifting with bench press, dumbell flys etc. can increase size of chest. But at the moment I have no access to equipment. Is there anything other than dips and pushups that one can do to increase size? Although pushups helped me in adding two inches in…

i hope a few are interested!! if anyone wants to start from november-march(ish), we could track our progress through the bodybuilding world-renowned bulking season. i think it'd be fun to keep each other accountable and push others who want to gain big to EAT BIG. we could track bodyweight, lifts, measurements, etc.... if this is a bad idea and no one joins, i won't feel bad, so don't just humor me and write in numbers lol.

Comp was today! Man, I had a blast! Didn't place in the top 3, but I got in the first call outs for comparisons, so I think I came close! Feedback was my conditioning was great, but I needed a little more legs. I was well aware of this anyway but honestly today wasn't about placing for me! I'm just so proud to have given it my all and brought my best to the stage! I'm also just so excited and motivated now to keep improving and compete again! Posing for the camera after getting off stage During first call-outs!

Since at the moment I have no access to gym/weights/bars, dips and pushups are all I can do. My friend says these sort of bodyweight exercises are more like cardio in that they help you lose weight. They aren't muscle building...only free weights can build muscle. If this is true, then do I stop doing dips and pushups? I am not that fat anyway, so cardio/losing fat isn't my goal. So am i wasting time with dips/pushups?

Today I had a pretty amazing arm workout with Shawn, the 18 year old I've been training with for the past 7 weeks or so....during that time he has put on 8 pounds and has increased strength significantly. Anyway, I'm one of those guys who blows up at the gym. By that I mean....if I were to cover my head and walk in the gym so nobody could see my face, just my physique, and then 30 minutes into the workout, they could see my physique again, they would have no idea it was the same person they saw initially. I know some of you have this reponse as well. My body responds extremely well in the gym and my muscles pump out quite a bit, it looks like I put on about 20 pounds…

Hey Everyone, In the past I would have had too much pride to admit what happened in Oakland. I competed, and after prejudging (when 99% of the decisions are made) I called my friends and family telling them I thought I was in 2nd position out of 4 and perhaps anywhere from 1st to 3rd. After the evening show, I was awarded 4th, dead last. I was really surprised and wasn't even really paying attention when they announced 4th place because I was waiting to hear my name in 2nd or better. As soon as I got off the stage some other competitors came up to me asking what happened, why I placed so low. I didn't know. As far as I was concerned, viewing the other athletes…

Hello all. Well I'll just start out by saying I'm grateful this board even exists. It's just about the only place I feel I can ask a questions to those who won't judge me. I've been working out for two straight years pretty steadily, and the issues are: - my arms are not getting any bigger whatsoever. They've actually atrophied. 13.1'' currently. - I've been stuck on 135 x 15 on the decline bench for forever now. how should I go up in weight? - I actually do not know how to properly go up in weight on anything. - Do I write down every single lift? Feel kind of weird doing it.. I don't see anyone else doing it. - Is bodybuilding typically pretty hard to accomplish a veg…

HI All, Kinda just talking out louad here, hopefully its of some interest... Dont think I've mentioned before, but am a bit of a baseball fan, I was hoking through my old BB mags (the Mrs told me tidy up the roof space), anyho, was hoking and came across an old Mark McGwire training article from his record breaking home run 1998 season. The guy years later did admit to using drugs, which were apparently were was to help heal some career threatening injuries, of course as a byproduct, he packed on 30lb of muscle (but no amount of drugs would have given him the hand to eye coordination he had for hitten). He had 19" arms and baseball bat like forearms, he was a solid 22…

So since I set my mind to it at the beginning of the summer, I have gained 16 lbs., starting at a scrawny 134 and climbing to slightly less-scrawny 150 as of a few days ago. I'm sure it probably doesn't sound like a lot to most of you (I know some here STARTED at at least 150 - heh), but it feels awesome to hit that mark and I'm now only 4 lbs. away from my ultimate summer goal. To everyone who's working on their goals, keep on keeping on!

When I say dangersous, I refer to possibility of injury and an exercises that could lead to future problems, whether it be with the back or joints, etc. I will elaborate later when I have time but wanted to get some of these out there now to get some feedback from others. These are what I consider some of the exerice which should be avoided for various reasons. I arrived at this list after 23 years of lifting experience and experimentation, after reading over 40 books on the human body, exercise, and bodybuilding, and after talking to quite a few orthopaedic specialists, some of whom have worked closely with the local Philadelphia pro sports teams and college teams. Be…

I would love to compete in a contest at some point, although at 42 years of age, it would have to be a Masters class. I have been at it for years adn right now I am 6' 2 1/2" tall and I weigh 216 lbs. I know size is not everything, but over 200 lbs is considered heavyweight so should I target a specific weight range before I start concentrating on balance and getting cut, etc? Pics posted on next page. The pics are embarrassing. Not that great. I am also embarrassed because I have gained some chub since last August. I was in great shape in August at 210 lbs. I then hurt my shoulder and stopped heavy lifting for 4 months! I was told to keep eating big but as a resu…

Well any time any new research comes around I always like to look at it to see if it's bunk or decent. One thing I saw as of late was a bit of research that states that you can build an equal amount of muscle mass and endurance by lifting light weights by at much higher reps, 20-25. Anyone seen, heard or tried it? Would be interested to see what you think.

I was just thinking about posting this last night. Kathryn wrote this earlier: And Alex replied: That is exactly it! I have known for a long time that my forearms are actually bigger than my upper arms!!!!!!!!!!! That is why I LOVE To wear sweatshirts with just the forearms showing! The reason I thought about posting it finally (coming out of the huge forearm closet) is because at the gym on Sunday I was showing the flexed forearm to some guys and they confirmed my lower arm size dwarfing the biceps/triceps! Here is a photo from just last week (I know out of shape): http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c210/VeganBodybuilder/Forearm1.jpg Here are a few…

Most of you have seen my friend Ben featured on the front page of the main website. For those who haven't, here is a photo of Big Ben. He is 36 and has never eaten meat in his life. He is one of the biggest guys at a bodybuilder's gym where I train. http://www.veganbodybuilding.com/images/bigben/Ben3.jpg Check out Ben's articles on www.veganbodybuilding.com main page or go directly to them here: http://www.veganbodybuilding.com/article/515 and http://www.veganbodybuilding.com/article/658 Ben is an awesome guy, extremely nice and has been bodybuilding for 16 years so he knows a thing or two about building muscle.

Our good buddies over at VF.net have had a strength table for a couple of years. Nobody here ever made one, but I guess we could. Why not? This is what it looks like: http://www.veganfitness.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5666&start=0 We have a lot of the same forum members, but we have a bunch of members who are not on their site or strength table, so we'll start our own lifting chart over here too. If you're interested, submit your bodyweight and your 1 rep max for lifts in the Bench Press, Deadlift, and Squat. We'll see who's really the toughest! It won't be me! If you have any questions about what the lifts are or anything else, just ask. Here ar…

So, who of you ever thought about taking roids? I thought about it a several times... but i came to the clue that 1. if I´d take roids, I´d only do it when I´m older than 22 2. it would be dangerous for me cause I have heart valve problems 3. I would be not able to stop it... I think it would come to the point that i just want more and more mass... and this wouldnt be healthy This propably leads me to stay natural So whats you opinion about this topic?

I've been a vegetarian from 2010 to 2012 and I eventually started eating meat in 2012 because I got into working out and I thought it was impossible on a vegetarian, almost vegan diet. Now 2013 is here and I started to ask myself what I'm doing. I actually sacrificed my personal beliefs for muscle building and that was a ridiculous thing to do imo. My game plan is to be in a consistent caloric surplus while getting around 15% of my macros from protein. I find it hard to believe that you're not going to gain any muscle on a low protein diet if you're in a consistent calorie surplus and you're consistently doing resistance training, but that's what most people say. Wha…
