I'm going to start with machines. I'm looking up various ways/things a person can use to work out there abs. So far this one looks like it's the most sane and well thought out. The HipowerX8555 This one also looks like it works. The Lean Abs Machine Those two are the ones I think look the most promising. Others I have seen include the Ab Lounger and various Ab Belts that strap onto your chest. But I heard the belts( Which use electricity ) can cause internal damage. So be careful. Obvious ways to work out your abs include getting on the floor and doing crunches or the leg pulley( Hanging from the celling and lifting your legs ) I might buy the Lean Mean A…

Hey guys, anyone out there that can tell me why eating fruit is not good for a pre contest diet? I am the only vegan out of five of us trainers getting ready for a natural bb contest in April and they all say NO fruit but I don't quite understand why. It seems dangerous to cut out fruit for such a long time. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I hope this doesn't sound strange.... but I really don't know what goes in to having a flat, toned stomach. I have an understanding of what types of exercises to do for, say.... my legs. Or glutes. And I have an understanding of how often I need to do them in order to see results. Years ago, when I was more of a gym bunny, I generally did three types of exercises per major muscle group (and threw in one or two to target smaller areas).... and I was pretty happy with the results. Ab training has always been a mystery to me, however. Whenever I try to google "abs exercises" or "how to get great abs"... I am directed towards a site that shows upwards of five or six diffe…

Hey everyone, I have only recently started working out hard, but I'm a little confused on something! I am 6'1, almost 6'2, and I weigh 145lbs. I am trying to gain weight, but at the same time be cut as well. I am skinny for my height, so I figure any muscle gains will be obvious (In fact, after only a little less than a month I can see some noticeable results). Now, I'm wondering how I can gain weight, but get my abs showing as well. Since I'm consuming more calories it seems like the cardio I am doing to get my abs showing is slightly counter-intuitive. I have just recently started killing my abs, so maybe they will show up. But If not, I'm pretty confused on…

What sort of Machines do Professional gyms use that could get someone ripped? Also I hear Cardio is good. I'm not sure what Cardio is.( I mean I know it's a kind of exercise but what classifies as Cardio?) I have a friend who told me that ever since she has been doing dance classes( Mostly Ballet and Hip-Hop) she has been noticing abs. So I might get into dancing.

Has anyone else heard of this? I think its from men's fitness or some magazine like it. I read an article that said the diet is mostly vegetarian which is suprising coming from one of these men's mags. Has anyone tried this plan? I know we have the diet part down. http://aolsvc.aol.com/dietfitness/az/abs_checklist.adp

Hi, I reached the goal I was talking int my first topic. The feeling of being tired and weak from summer passed away. Now I'm training my entier body 3 (next week 4) times per week. I train my body for 1h 15min. Is it suggest to increase that time and decrease the total training per week? I've started working last month so I don't expect visibile progress. I feel stronger and I see tiny growth of muscles. My final goal is obv bulking and have a good body definy, but I'm kinda obsessed with Abs. Three years ago I've trained them hard for 5 months, 2 years ago for 3 and since now I've come back in gym I've trained them 1-2 times per week. I don't see any progress. I do a l…

Hy guys, I really would like your suggestions on this one. I was born with a condition called pectus excavatum or sunken chest, with basically a "hole" in the middle of the chest. Because of it my belly sticks out (especially if you look at me sideways); I'm not really overweight and would like to work on my abs to minimize the problem. What's the best plan of action for abs? Thanks!

I apologize if this question comes up a lot and I'm cluttering the board by asking a very redundant question. I tried search for similar threads and found nothing of relevance. Anyways, my problem is that for the past 3 months or so I've been doing consistent and intense bodybuilding. I've grown a lot in just a few months and a lot of it is due to eating a lot more food than I usually do to support muscle growth for my workouts. The problem though is that before I started bodybuilding I had about an inch of fat over my abs that hasn't gone away despite my 60-minute, (almost) daily cardio routine. Now, I know the problem lies with my food intake having increased desp…

For developing a six pack, which is best: Doing weighted ab exercises (low reps but high intensity) OR No weights (High reps)???? Multiple sets? I've also read that you should NOT work your obliques if u want to develop a V-taper... True???? Whats the best ab workout? I know that nutrition has a lot to do with abs, but I'm concerned with NOT bulking the abs.. just streamlining them, keeping the waist slim/sleek, and developing a v-taper, as well as a pronounced 6-pack.

i have a question about ab definition. i'm about 5'7" 145-150lbs with very little body fat. i've noticed my abs appear to form as one large muscle with very little definition between them. i usually do a few sets of hanging leg raises, rotary ab machine, and krunches at the end of my workouts. my question is whether i'm training them wrong, or should be trying something else to achieve some shape? any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks

Okay, so here's the deal. The genius who's in control of security at our university gym have somehow managed to lock the entire place down, so now no one has access to the place. We've tried contacting the guy, but it seems the fucker is on Christmas vacation until the 5th of Jan.. Anyways! I'm without a gym for 14 days.. Should i just relax and let my body get some rest? And if so will this have any noticeable effect strengthwise?

For those that are NASM or ACSM certified -- which certification would you recommend? Also which books or study guides did you use.

In this time of the year many people are interested in building muscle mass, you could see the gyms begin to pack up by January and then again in the Spring/Summer season as everyone is wanting to attain that “Beach Body”. Due to this, you’ll see health and fitness center parking lots usually packed with vehicles driven by people looking for the infinite advantages of good fitness health. However, many of these people are also looking for a quick fix, and they do not realize that building muscle tissue takes incredible amounts of dedication, time and energy. The “fast food” mentality won’t work in this area, and so a person is setting up failure if they expect to “get …

I have been feeling better after a 4 month battle with a shoulder injury and during that time I got a little out of shape, because I hate doing cardio, LOL...and with the holidays and all, I started eating more junk! So, here I am getting back into the heavy weights and want to get back to gaining mass. Right now I am about 205 lbs at 6'3" and last summer I was 212 lbs and I thikn I was leaner. So, I am trying to pack back on the muscle and I would like to gain as much as possible. Right now I am working mostly with muscle memory, gaining back what I lost the last 4 months with the injury. I always struggle when I work through a mass stage because I always gain some fat…

Im new here and ive been eating 80% raw vegan for 2 months. Im looking to add size to my frame (Im 5ft11 155), but im also a triathlete so I naturally do lots of cardio. Im estimating ill need around 4000 clean cals a day to do this. Im not big on eating grains and pasta either. Ive been lifting and just started the stronglift 5x5 program to hopefully add some size. What types of food are going to be good for gaining mass?

hi folks my names Roddy, I'm 30, weighed myself in at 165kg today, but I know a good bit of that is my expanding gut. I just turned 30 2 days ago, so his is my 'now is the time' getting into working out thing, I wanna go the distance but dont know how best to approach anything! I've joined my local gym, went there today and did 45 minutes on different machines pushing myself as hard as I could and 30 mins on the running machine. I also cycle 45 minutes 5 days a week. My main aim is to lose my gut and develop all my muscles, not get massive. what should I do? I'm thinking 3 days a week in the gym I can manage doing muscles and cardio, is that too much? should I do mo…

I'm bulking right now. My biggest concern is getting too much protein and the health effects with getting too much. However I don't want it to hinder my gains. I heard 80/10/10 is the healthiest diet. Any research on diets and gaing muscle? I want to do it and not harm my body. Protein is acidic and can't get rid of excess however you need the protein as your muscles are being broken down. I was looking at bulking on an 80/10/10. Any advice? I don't know what to do.

I am currently around 185 Pounds ( I am about 5'11). At one point in time I weighed 220 pounds. I lost 20 pounds and plateaued at 200. Then when I become Vegan I lost another 20 pounds and hit 180. I plateaued once again and recently I have actually gained 5 pounds. I try to work out,but it isnt regular/scheduled and is infrequent. For the last few months I have been working 35-40 hours a week and then with attending school, homework, and studying I have been adding 20+ hours to that so I have been having 60+ hour weeks pretty much. I find it hard to find time to exercise regularly. I would like to eventually get down to 170. Also with my eating it isn't regul…

Hi everyone! I would like a little advice on my workout routine--just the weights portion of it. A little background: I started with weights in the beginning of June this year, but I changed gyms three times, and as a result of different equipment in each have had to change my routine. I'm finally settling down at one gym and would like to settle down my routine as well, at least for a little bit. Right now I am doing a full-body routine twice a week. I am also doing a single heavy set of each exercise. I like this approach. I find the idea of multiple sets pretty off-putting, so I would like to stick with single sets until I feel I really can't progress any mor…

Hi all, i'm new to the forum, and was recommended as told it was full of good advice. I'm trying to find out what would be teh ideal protein drink to take, which is vegan, but relatively natural or organic if need be. The thing is i'm a Chronic Fatigue/ME suffer for 16 years, and body is sensitive. I work out, though nothign heavy naturally, and am building up. However, there are parts of me that do strain easily, namely the muscles on the rib cage and shoulders, and have been suggested that i drink a protein drink after working out to repair. I think that word is important here, as my body with the illness does take longer to repair than most. I live in the north of en…

Hey all I want to get back into the gym armed with a training routine that puts enough focus on the glutes. My goal is to lose some fat (I'm not overweight) and at the same time build muscle, especially in the glutes and shoulders. (I think it will be possible to lose fat and gain some muscle simultaneously in the 'newbie phase'.) The reason I want to prioritize the glutes is that I actually already quite like the way my body looks when I have a little less fat than I have now, except for the butt because it gets pretty flat when I lose fat. Half a year ago I started strength training with a basic full body routine, working out gave me so much energy I loved it. Wit…

Hey its been a couple of months since I posted here, I've been lurking just not posting. Due to excessive work and personal business barely got out to the gym for the past 2 months. I've been back now for the past 3 weeks and I've been having a damn hard time falling into a workout that I like. I was doing StrongLifts for a 4 months prior to taking my time off, I liked it but felt it was lacking something for me not sure what though. So when I came back I tried to create a new workout plan that merged alot of compound with some isloation, however I am not sure if its gonna work either here is my current routine and please comment on what you think about it: Monday: …
