This is a lake a 1/2 mile from where I work, it overflowed and drained completely dry. Videos are pretty shocking on MSNBC, see the link...

I just saw some news coverage on this flood. It was shocking to see this big house just drifting along. Are they evacuating the area?

I met the family that owned that house last year. They evacuated a few of the surrounding homes yesterday. The families didn't have time to pack anything, all was lost. 5 houses in total were lost, no other homes are in danger.

Glad you're okay. I saw footage from Wisconsin Dells on CNN and recognized the name of the town from your profile.

Thanks Spine, I'm in a bit of shock still. This city is built on tourism. We have been deemed the "Waterpark Capitol of the World" by The World Waterpark Association. We've got 9 huge waterpark resorts all within a 5-7 mile radius of each other. Here they are...

Mount Olympus Resort - Indoor/Outdoor Waterpark and Indoor/Outdoor Theme Park - 37 waterslides, 7 roller coasters, 9 go-kart tracks, including

underground roller coaster and
surf size wave pool.

Noah's Ark - Largest Outdoor Waterpark in the nation

Kalahari - Largest Indoor Waterpark in the nation

Great Wolf

Chula Vista

The Wilderness - I think the site is off line, but as far as land coverage, this place is the largest in the Dells.

Polynesian

Riverview Park and Waterworld

Whats going to hurt the community is that alot of the smaller resorts are located around Lake Delton (or what was Lake Delton). They will suffer big time this summer. "The Wilderness Resort" will probably suffer as well as they have a large number of getaway log cabins located around the lake. I assume this will move people to stay at the waterpark resorts this summer, which is good for me, but I do feel bad for all the owners of small resorts. Tommy Bartlett's will no longer be a ski-sky-stage show, probably just a "stage" show, as there will be no water to ski on.

I feel bad for the families who lost their homes

Not just their houses but all the sentimental items too like family pictures, and heirlooms and stuff like that. I have a ring from my Grandma that means a lot to me. I'd be broken hearted if I lost it.

I never went to the Tommy Bartlett show, but I went to the museum and I think about a million other things with his name on them. I stayed at the Kalahari once and somewhere else another time. I remember wanting to go to Mount Olympus, but I never got the chance.

The Dells are more focused on pure tourism than any other city I have been to, this definitely has to be a blow.

For those of you that are not from the Great Lakes Region; here is an article that was published today in the Chicago Tribune regarding the absolute devastation Central Wisconsin is suffering.

Again more rain in our forecast!

Here is a nice aerial shot of when the lake (on left) was pouring into the river (right). Keep in mind that the land was simply flushed away, there was no bridge or waterway there before, it carved its own path.

You can see Mount Olympus in the background at the top of the picture...

Things are going ok, HOWEVER, I like to water-ski during the summer and inquired about the cleanliness of the water due to the heavy rains which causes alot of runoff from farms. I was informed of this: Floods force Reedsburg to pump sewage into swollen Baraboo River

Heres a map of how close it is... I don't think this will effect Castle Rock Lake since its "upstream" from the Baraboo River, yet I've heard warnings about swimming or participating in any recreational water activities in any lakes, rivers and streams and that it should be avoided for the first part of the summer...
