Zack, that is one of the most horrifying things I have ever read. Why in the world did this horrible article come across your path.

The fact that these things actually do happen, is so unbelievably sad, so horrible, i just don't know what to say.

I'm thankful she's alive as I feared she wasn't when I read the title......

'Mr. Williams, who was homeless at the time of his arrest about a week later at the scene of a burglary in Queens, has a lengthy police record dating to his childhood, the authorities have said.

He was charged in a murder as a juvenile, though the outcome of that case is sealed, a law enforcement official said, and he spent eight years in prison for an attempted-murder conviction in 1996'.

Why wasn't I surprised to read this... This is what happens with soft sentencing and when you repeatedly give dangerous people the benefit of the doubt.

The death penalty is too quick and easy Zack. Should lock the fucker up for the next fifty years in an unheated 8ft x 8ft cell for twenty three and a half hours a day and barely sustain him on bread and water.

I'd prefer this scumbag sun of a bitch to spend not 50 but the rest of his life in a maggot infested, purposely bad smelling museum cell surrounded by one way mirrors. Make him eat nothing but the most ing, unnatural, rotten and decaying food items/by-products. Slit off his eye lids, strap him naked to a table( He will stay this way for the rest of his life ) and place a TV in front of him that plays nothing but Gay Porn and music by William Hung. And finally, on a regular basis pay random Homosexual volunteer's( a new one rotated every 2-4 hours ) to sodomize and rape him hard in the ass. Doing what he did to Ms. Prunty only much, much worse.

Because just letting him die just isn't enough. HE MUST SUFFER!!!!!!!!

That is the sickest thing I've ever read. He shouldn't be killed, he must be miserable in prison for the rest of his life.

I wonder how will the life of that girl be after that. I hope she could get over it somehow.

If that happened to me I would have rather died.

Life after any form of sexual abuse is horrific. You live everyday feeling "dirty" and nothing erases that.

After something THIS bad though.. I can't even imagine how difficult every day would be.

I do not understand why you would feel 'dirty' after a sex crime. You are the victim, not the doer. To me, it is just a violent crime, just as if you were assaulted with fists. Society puts such a stigma on sex that it has made even the victim a source of disapproval. Reminds me of my childhood when I found out that my best friend's dad was convicted of incest. She was happy at school while this was going on (her haven from home life), but now that it was out in the open, school was hell. Her whole life was now hell. Luckily she went and lived somewhere else and was happy once more. She married and had two wonderful beautiful kids, and leads a wonderful life. Why would you not give hope a chance to flourish and show you the beauty of your life? Why would you want to end it all just because some person interrupted your life for 19 hours? You still have millions of hours left.

And I do believe that mental illness is the cause of this attack. After coming out the other end of panic attacks, I have a strong compassion for people with mental disorders. In my case, I had no control over the panic attacks. They came with no reason, and my mind would pick up the slack and start looking for reasons. I was put on medication that helped me control the attacks, but the side effect of sleepiness followed. It is the helplessness of not being able to control your mind that scared me the most. And my usually positive attitude would go negative during the panic attacks, without my control. Even meditation couldn't help me when they came on. Found out that it was a Gaba receptor problem brought on by overabundant copper in my system. It has taken me years of fighting and hoping, to finally get it under control without medication (whether or not I can do it for years will be my experiment in life). So my compassion for the guy comes from experiencing mental disorders and not having control over what you do. If the biochemistry in the head is wired a certain way (maybe also influenced by his environment of violence from the street), it takes alot of time and energy to get better.

And do not even get me started on the jail situation. As a society you can not have the mindset that a person who commits a crime should just be put away somewhere and stay there. There are too many persons who have committed crimes. They are now having to put people back on the street because the jails cannot adequately contain them (from physical space available to financial reasons). You can not have a blind eye for very long. If we don't have compassion for these people and figure out what went wrong, and see if they can be helped, then our fate will be an overspilling of people who have committed crimes with no rehabilitation at all, out into society.

Such drama. Drama does bring color to life though.

"I would rather die than live after an ordeal as that!"

oh, yeah, well, why then did she fight to live, even after the best opportunity to end it was right there in her hands? because the inner Self took control and knew life is precious and meant to be lived, and that nobody has that control over your Self. especially not a person who is doing all sorts of physical hurt to your body. you are not just your body. your mind might come up with all sorts of nasty thoughts, but you can change your thoughts. you are not just your mind. And with spirit, you can lift yourself up from this experience. you are not just your spirit. You are all three, the Self.

Unless I missed something in the article, there is nothing to indicate that he was mentally disturbed. May have been, may not have been. Fact is otherwise sane and rational people commit horrendous actions too, and not just those with mental health problems.

Not really.

It is more expensive because of the process of legal appeals. That helps reduce the possibility of innocent people being executed. Aside from our system being based on 10 guilty men going free rather than falsely imprisoning one there is a real problem with innocent people being sent to jail.

The worst example is Texas and African Americans. I see articles all of the time about people being falsely imprisoned for decades. Usually the color of someone's skin in Texas is a good indicator of whether or not their case will be processed with full consideration.

That may be very well true, but most victims of sex crimes don't feel that way. They feel as if they're somehow to blame.. If they did something wrong.. They feel ed with themselves.

It's hard to explain.. You have to go through it to understand what it feels like.

Off topic.

But this is why I dont read the news, listen to the news, or watch the news. Its depressing shit that makes people live in fear of their neighbors and of the people around them, and doesnt offer ANY solutions to the problems so people can work through their fear and make a better society.

We have some fucked up people in this world, a lot of them, and I can gurantee that each and every one of us has either been directly affected or affected through others by people such as this. I have been directly affected, and have had friends affected also. We all have.

If I was raped for 19 hours (yes Im a guy, and they can get raped) I would HATE the news to spread it all over the world, offering nothing to help victims or possible future victims.

I would much rather deal with it through my family, my friends, and if I know the person the court. And once thats done, start teaching others how to avoid the situation I got into, and how to protect yourself from that.

To many times the news thinks all we want to hear is shit like this, and they are right, because the majority of America eats this up without really stopping and thinking about how this coverage is affecting the victim and her family. And I gurantee only a small fraction of a fraction of the population think that thats not okay, and that the news should stay in their own business, or actually do something positive in their community they report for for once.

I have all the symphothy in the world for this girl, and karma is a bitch, and this guys going to get his. But instead of telling me in detail what she went through, how bout telling me about the rape crisis centers in my area, self defense areas, and what not to do in a situation that can happen to any one of us. It would make us stronger as a society, and able to handle things much easier.

Rant over. Being asshole over.

samething with me. It's been many years since I haven't watch the news on tv, radio, etc; and the papers I read are about culture and arts.

What''s the purpose of watching the news -- getting informed or being conscious of what's going on? Because one can go without the other.

90% of what the medias say we don't wanna hear it. Is it to cry on the disasters, wars, etc ? Most people don't cry when they hear terrible news. They're sad or shocked for a moment then they forget about it. Or if some people feel sad forever about every bad news, it's masochism -- it's better to search for happiness than sadness.

Henry Miller wrote in his novel Big Sur that it is almost impossible to be happy if we watch the news or read the newspapers.

To know that it exist is enough, no need to hear about it every day.

To watch the news ain't gonna help anybody. What you can do as a human being is simply be a good person and spread peace and happiness around you, to everyone you meet and talk to.

Crap like this is why I am glad I moved out of Georgia and into North Dakota, where most people don't even have to lock their doors because the crime rate is so low. In my town, there's practically no crime and I hope it stays that way.

This sick bastard needs to suffer serious torture before enduring a slow and VERY painful death.

I think Marcina was just giving her response to the story, stating how she imagines she would feel if it happened to her.

Yes, you are right Richard. I know that Marcina was giving her response, which is the widely popular view. I just wanted to point out that in life, stuff happens, and sometimes it is really horrible stuff. But it should not be a reason to give up on life. There is always hope. Maybe I am being too serious about the response of wanting to die if that happened to me, which is a purely emotional response to the thought of a 19 hour rape that I don't think anyone can really wrap their head around.

My husband and I no longer have a TV anymore, partly due to this. And good thing we avoid hearing it on the radio, don't get newspapers, and see less of it online. This is all fear tactics to make people fear for their safety, make them see others as terrorists (like Muslims, I know some really nice Muslims, and have come to find that there are just a few who are "extremists" just like in any other country or area), make them feel that there's nothing they can do about it. Is it any wonder why so many people are becoming depressed, anti-social, anxious, etc? Yet they blame it on diseases and give out their drugs! (I should know, as I was diagnosed with depression, and once I started eating healthier I started getting better, whereas the drugs only made me worse and almost suicidal!)

A few years or so from now, I bet everyone will lock themselves inside their home, with guns and bombs at their side for security, and barely ever leave their homes! This is pathetic how sad our world is becoming! It really makes me and my husband push even harder to save up enough money to move to a better area away from all of this chaos! This kind of news sucks, and it only gets worse each day. Pathetic...
