NOTE: The astronomer Philip Plait has stated very clearly that the Mayan calendar does not end in 2012 at all, that it is like the odometer on your car, as each section of the odometer reaches 9 and then clicks over to 0, the next number to it starts a new cycle, so that when all the numbers again reach 0 all the way across the odometer - the last number will change from 1 to 2 and the new cycle starts all over again.

I don,t think the mayan calendar mean the end of the world, but the beginning of a new era. This era will be what we will make of it. I hope it's gonna be a come back to a humanity that is more connected to itself, cosmos, nature and other animals. But we're still in a era of technologies, medias, still in the industrial age, economy over health and over everything, fast profit instead of thinking to long terms.

 

I hope it's gonna change in 2012, some people say that humanity will change their perception towards life, but honnestly I don't see how it could happen. People are buying more cars and 4x4 eventhough gas prices are still going up, more eating, more violence, more cellular phones, more buying, bigger houses, bigger persons, etc. I can't imagine everybody will suddenly (or slowly begin) all become vegan yogins in harmony with eachothers and with nature.

 

But I do believe one thing: the weather is gonna enter a wild phase. Not a fatal cataclysm to humanity, not the Apocalypse, but just even more storms and natural disasters of all kinds, more than now. Especially because the sun will enter its periodic phase of higher activity, it will send huge electromagnetic waves to Earth, causing power outage, ocean storms, etc.

I know for a fact that this happen: it happens every 12 years or so (but in 2008 to 2012 I think it's gonna be worst), it affects espescially countries near the poles, like Quebec where I live, last time in the '90's there was a huge ice storm and no electricity for at least 3 full weeks but millions of people.

 

Also the position of the planets will be all aligned with the sun or something like that, causing the magnetic poles of the Earth to reverse.

I don't know about 2012, but I really loved the Rush album 2112. I should dig out sometime and listen to it again!
