GreenMachine
If I bought some almonds and then grinded them into a powder and put it into a smoothie would it still hold all the nutritional value of the original almonds , ie will it still have 22 grams protein, 25% RDA of calcium etc
Im Your Man
Of course it will have everything like the whole almond. But I guess it will make a butter, not powder. And if it makes powder, it wouldn't be a protein powder, a protein powder is when some of the nutrients are removed, to keep only the proteins. Marcina
Except hemp. Most hemp powders aren't isolated, because they have omega 3's and whatnot that are really good for the body.
Fallen_Horse
Right, but hemp powder isn't really protein powder...
xjohanx
I'm not going to say that hemp protein powder is a waste of money but I don't understand why people pay so much for the "protein" powder when they could buy the regular hemp flour and probably get the same results (if not better). Whole foods rules
Im Your Man
the fact that hemp powder isn't protein powder makes it the best ! It's still a whole food (or at least more complete than most of protein powders except perhaps spirulina, chlorella and other algaes) but still the protein/calorie ratio is very good : 15 gr of proteins for 110 calories... with 0,4g of omega3, and 8 grams of fibres. Fallen_Horse
Yeah, now if it was only half the price.
Marcina
I love Canada. The hemp is a decent price here. I get my organic raw hemp powder for about $14.99 a tub. Sometimes it goes on sale. I love it. It lasts a couple months for me and I use a scoop almost every day.
Dr. Pink
@XjohanX: So. Hemp Flour would be better? Could that stuff be made to make stuff like, Say, Hemp Pizza and Hemp Pasta? @Marcina: Sweet. I wish I could find Hemp here. I don't know if they sell it here. I here Hemp is illegal here. -_-
chrisjs
Hemp isn't illegal in the US. It's against federal law to grow it, but hemp products are ok. Fibers, protein powders, even seeds are ok as long as the seeds have been treated such that they won't grow.
liftandcode
Hemp isn't illegal in the US. It's against federal law to grow it, but hemp products are ok. Fibers, protein powders, even seeds are ok as long as the seeds have been treated such that they won't grow. Such a rational law! I think at least part of the reason for it, besides the conspiracy theories of the government trying to keep the loggers and cotton growers happy, etc, etc..., is that the Feds don't want to confuse it with Marijuana plants and/or allow growers of hemp to mix in Marijuana also. Still very stupid though. Of course so is making weed illegal, but I digress.
Im Your Man
Hemp is a very versatile product that grow easily and that could have many benefits to society if the governments would accept to use it. But it's like electric cars and green energies, they don't want to harm the economy based on the oil, gaz and nuclear.
xjohanx
pinkie: yes you can use hemp flour for lot's of different stuff. check out the recepies in thrive diet. brendan uses it all the time. if you are making pizza i wouldn't use all hemp flour but maybe mix hemp, spelt and chickpea flour or something. GreenMachine
Not on topic but I didnt see the point in making a new thread for one question. I was wondering whether this would be a suitable way to use protein shakes. 6am: Protein Shake7-9am: Workout9:30am: Protein Shake Is that an effective way to use my protein shakes, are they too close together? Should I only drink a post or pre workout shake?
