GRardB
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_cholesterol Interesting...carbs and trans fat give you high cholesterol. It has nothing to do with eating cholesterol (Meat, Dairy, etc.)!! Who would've thought? I hate stuff like this. BTW, is it possible for a vegan, or even a vegetarian, to get high cholesterol (I assume vegetarians can if they eat huge amounts of dairy/eggs)? If so, why? Just curious, I know I'll never have it
RAINRA
Cholesterol in food can affect certain people and depending on condition. Harmful fats are what most people should look out for.here is what you need to know about cholesterol that is out so far. Your body can produce more cholesterol than other people Bad fats are the main cause but they say that some cholesterol in food does have some effect on total blood cholesterol. Vegetarians and Vegans have a lower total cholesterol in general. There are always exceptions... of course.
RawVgn
Hard to imagine anyone who has been vegan for any length of time having high cholesterol. Mine was 111 when I was regualar vegan; I'm lowfat raw now but haven't been tested in about 8 months. My vegan wife's is 113. Anyone who says cholesterol consumption doesn't strongly influence cholesterol level is full of it. The first thing heart rehab specialists tell patients is to vastly reduce or eliminate cholesterol consumption, because many studies and experience have shown it strongly affects serum cholesterol. The patients who adopt low-fat vegan diets almost invariably get better.
