In all honesty I'm about as afraid of the US as off Russia.

And the guy who wrote those numbers might be accurate about a few things, unemployment rate is far below 26% though, but he seriously needs to go back to school since he thinks Sweden is a socialist country. Saying stuff like that is retarded and shows basically that the person has now clue what socialism is or how things work in our economy.

I don't know much about politics, but the one thing that bothers me a little bit is how part of the discussion revolves around "oh my dearly loved country that is better than yours. poor you that don't live here".

I know patriotism does exist but please don't turn it into chauvinism. At the end it's Americans who have to vote and live with the fact of how will their decision affect them and the rest of the world. By saying that I admit that USA does have an impact in the rest of the world but it doesn't mean that it is dreamland.

Just another hurt ego in denial. Everybodies always got to take there shot at the guy at the top. Why, because they all want to be on top. Always thinking "I could do it better".

Oh of course my ego hurts so bad that I can't stand it at all. Even though USA was not at all the country of choice when I decided to go abroad for school (mainly because of people like you).

But yes, a deep wide wound crosses my ego because I don't come from the country that invented gummy bears. Life is so cruel and unfair.

Thanks for the hate. Interesting how people can't respect the views of others, when they don't agree. So just come right out and hate me. Get it off your chest. This no doubt make you right.

Like I said short term memory, how soon Europe forgot about the threat of the USSR. Or maybe it's just ungreatfulness, instead of memory loss. Still think it's an ego thing.

Reagan did absolutely nothing to defeat the USSR. Read a book. And don't even try and bring up the increase in spending. All that did was widen the gap between rich and poor in America. Trickle down economics don't work. The people took back Europe, not America.

Also stop being a fucking troll to the Europeans on this board. People like you make it hard for me to try and come across as a nice person to Europeans. Until they find out I'm a crazy non-homophobic anti-misogynistic feminist environmentalist social libertarian/syndicated anarchist vegan who wants to get out of the country he was born in. Then they tend to like me. When i go to Europe I think I'll just pretend to be Canadian. It's what my friend did. He made fun of Americans with all of the Europeans. Sounds like a blast to me.

You implied that the US was better than other countries. Then when someone from another country said she was bothered by this aspect of the discussion, you said that she was "just another hurt ego in denial." Only after that did she express annoyance with you. You've said that others are being disrespectful, but what you've said comes across as pretty disrespectful in my view. If someone from, say, France said that their country was better than yours, and when you said their attitude bothered you, they said you were saying that because you were jealous and had a bruised ego, would you consider this to be respectful?

And I don't know about you or other people, but my ego has nothing to do with where I happened to have been born. Why would it? Nobody can take any credit for where their parents live.

Did your mother teach you to talk like that?

May I suggest therapy, or anger management class?

But I am flattered that you feel that I am the cause of all you psychological ailments.

You're welcome.

I think you read more into what I said than what I actually said.

Show me your allegations, quotes please.

The gap in politics between the democrats and the politics of the rest of the world is smaller than that of republicans (usually).

Christian morality,

Most Democrats are Christian. More importantly, there are a number of respects in which most Democrats, including Obama, are to the right of politicians in most industrialized countries: To name a few, opposition to national health insurance, opposition to significant funding of mass transit, support for insane amounts of military spending and incessant wars. That said, most elected officials the world over serve the interests of the wealthy more than those of everyone else, almost regardless of what political party they come from.

liberal gun-laws,

Obama opposed DC's ban on handguns. I think people should have a right to own a gun as long as they're not violent criminals; I'm just pointing this out as a matter of accuracy.

less public health care,

Obama opposes single-payer (national) health insurance.

less security for workers,

Obama opposed a cap on credit card rates, for starters.

death penalty,

Obama supports the death penalty.

gay rights,

Obama opposes gay marriage.

etc. If I need to talk politics (as a president needs to do with the rest of the world) with a gunslinging, christian fundamentalist redneck I wouldn't know were to start? Bush have separated the US from the rest of the world, Clinton didn't. McCain/Palin will widen it further.

I believe (due to peak oil and climate change) that we are looking at a future much unlike what we have today. I think cooperation is key in this process and Palin won't bring it.

Well, you are right that things are going to be changing quite dramatically in the world in the relatively near future, not only because of climate change and the coming need to reduce oil dependence, but perhaps even more so because we seem to be headed for the worst global economic crisis since the Great Depression. But I disagree with you about cooperation between elected officials being key to coping with these challenges, not because I don't think cooperation in general is a good thing or that having Obama/Biden in office wouldn't be preferable to having McCain/Palin in office; I just don't see much in common between politicians and the vested interests they serve and the interests of the rest of us. It's cooperation between the rest of us that's needed most to bring about a better world. If regular folks like us want the world to change for the better, we're going to have to do it ourselves. We cannot depend on politicians to do it for us. The future is up to us!

Thank you very much, you completely understood what I was meaning. I don't hate Americans, it's stupid to describe a whole country by a few of its citizens and I have many American friends. I do despise prepotent persons.

hahaha Nice! If you ever want to get a business card with all that names it's gonna be a big piece of paper.

Still it's somehow sad that you are not proud of yor country etc. There are still many good things about it I think.

Yo,

You have an opinion that differs from the "norm" of left leaning opinions here on the forum, and I value your viewpoint. I even agree with some of your opinions.

However there's a way to express your opinion without resorting to personal attacks and insults. Doing that is childish and obscures a what would otherwise be a valuable differing viewpoint on an issue.

There should probably be some conclusionary sentence here, like "therefore don't do that", but I don't want to tell you what to do, just pointing out that taking a hateful, negative stance doesn't help anyone.

Also stop being a fucking troll to the Europeans on this board.

Oh yeah, by the way while the subject of troll is still fresh in my mind. Could you give me the link to your workout log @ Vegan Bodybuilding and Fitness.com?

I keep one on my computer, not on here. I don't feel the need to stroke my ego on the internet. Some people do, and that's not a bad thing, just not my cup of tea.

I'll gladly send you all the info on my workouts if you really want. I'm sure you were trying to make a point or something.

1. My mother did teach me to talk like that. Terrifying when younger people don't have respect for their elders unless their elders earn that respect isn't it?

2. I'm not going to argue with you any further. My point has been made and then supported by your constant immature cynical posts. Good day.

Reagan did absolutely nothing to defeat the USSR. Read a book.

Actually, Reagan was an important figure in ending the Cold War, although by no means the most important person/factor. Quite ironically, he was very much against nuclear weapons, even though he is popularly known as a hawk and massively increased defense spending. His greatest legacy was in negotiating a peaceful end to the Cold War, and it's really a shame that people these days (especially neo-cons) only remember his hawkish stances in his first term, and not his diplomatic skills in the second term. In a sense, Reagan's best accomplishment was his flexibility away from ideological positions.

It’s a huge shame that subsequent administrations didn’t do more to help consolidate Russian democracy and be more sensitive towards Russian security interests.

In reference to everything Vegan Joe has written:

Dude, what the hell are you on?

Do you really think people are jealous because they are not American?

Honestly?

Have you seen the film Team America? You could have been in it.

You described the US as being the "guy at the top"

If you open your eyes, you will see that the oil rich Saudis (9000 kilometres east of America) are actually a step above you in terms of economic power.

And as we speak, that little country across the pacific ocean called China (12000 kilometres west of America) is in the process of taking over as the world superpower.

Go right ahead and deny the truth

I think your own words apply to you.

Dan (from England, the last world superpower - 6000 miles east of America)

"Team America, come to save the mother *@!$ ing day yeah!"

Well, maybe they can do it better. The USA doesn't exactly have a monopoly on best practices regarding economics. Or civil rights. Or foreign policy. Or environmentalism. Or energy policy.

It shouldn't make you defensive when others believe their countries are better than ours. Nationalism isn't exclusive to America. And you certainly shouldn't be concerned if they do things better than us. That's perfectly normal and perfectly healthy and beneficial for global society.

I didn't get the impression you were American, actually, until these posts.

Uh oh, if those concern you, I have bad news. We're screwed either way. Being agnostic from Massachusetts, and thus a card-carrying supporter of socialism, public health care, labor unions, and gay marriage, I sympathize because my perfect candidate doesn't exist (and Kucinich doesn't count because he's a mass hallucination). Your point about keeping close with the rest of the world is well-taken, but it's still just a small step.

When you're not a member of what many believe to be the greatest country in the world today. It can hurt your ego. Hense backbiting. Don't put words into my mouth, or get me wrong. I am not saying there is nothing wrong with America.

Oh, I see, credibility come merely with the party you affiliate yourself with. lol

Yeah, and the world just hated Ronald Reagan ®, Europe especially so.

Memories are short!

.

I wish some of you would actually read just exactly what I said and stop jumping to conclusions, and calling me names for somethings that I never said. And then everyone is calling me a hater. Gee, shit, get your story straight before you go off the deep end.

Let's not get too upset here, everyone. Political opinons, while important to each individual person, are no reason for us to get overly personal with each other (not a jab at any single individual, but this seems to be headed in a direction that could get ugly in no time flat).
