jmoney
Well I have a pretty small frame and I've been the "skinny guy" my whole life. Been lifting weights for the past 9 months and made some good gains, but now I really want to try to maximize my gains. I'm pretty sure I got the diet down, but I just have one question...should I still do cardio? Should I devote one day to ONLY cardio? Right now I've been doing cardio with every workout sometimes high intensity, sometimes low...but I've been reading that it could be affecting my gains....so now I'm just confused since I'm not really trying to lose a ton of fat. Should I still do cardio if I want to bulk up my little frame?
sydneyvegan
Cardio can definitely effect your gains if you are trying to put on as much bulk as possible. That said, I would recommend to still do cardio, even when you are bulking as it is much more healthy andit can limit the amount of fat that you put on.The amount of Cardio you do and the type of cardio you do are important. It's probably best to not do cardio in the same sessions as weights if at all possible, if not, do it at the end, so that youmaximise your lifting etc.Cardio on a couple of days a week, and weights on the other days works.Hours and hours of running or cycling is not going to help you add bulk.Interval training in the gym, or hill sprints are good ways to get the heart rate up. Couture547
I think cardio is fine as long as your not over doing it. I think short intense runs are best(10-15min 5 days a week) Long distance running will effect muscle gains to a large degree. 3 years ago i was running 6 miles a day plus 2-3 hours of mixied martial arts training 5-6 days a week. while doing this i was lifting. I still got some strength gains, but they were very small. This was when i was of the mind set more is better, alot of times in life and fitness less is more

Cardio is perfectly fine, it won't magically melt the muscle off your body unless you MASSIVELY overdo on it. I'm currently bulking, but don't do any cardio at all, though - it's actually quite nice - in a twisted kind of way - to feel your body getting bulky and strong.
