MaryStella
Anyone on here doing crossfit workouts? Just started working with a trainer on crossfit workouts and wondering what others think of them. I am pretty new to it so i don't know too much about it. CollegeB
I've only looked at their website. Good idea though. I hear good things about this type of training. I hope I can give it a try sometime.
CalebC
Some of my friends in college started doing crossfit instead of weight training for a while. These guys were major meat heads and they said it gave them a better workout than all the heavy lifting they had been doing over the years. Most of them also it the gym after just to get the body parts like traps and bi's that they felt more vain about. In short, I've heard really good things about it. No time to try it yet though. Octopussoir
Crossfit is okay, but dont make it the only thing you do. Its cardio with some weight training with it, but mostly cardiovascular.
MaryStella
Thanks. It isn't the only thing I do. I also kickbox competitively, run and do regular strength training.
VeganEssentials
Yeah, like Octo said, it's basically weighted cardio for the most part - not enough weight to be ideal for building mass, but a fine alternative to running/biking/etc. and can be a pretty high-intensity way to train when done properly. But, all in all, it's nothing miraculous. The same thing can be accomplished by doing complexes with weights as I've mentioned here before, rather than being a necessity to join a Crossfit group, as you'll get the same results without needing "experts" to come up with some sort of arbitrary combination of movements they deem to be the right pick for you. MaryStella
I am not looking for mass. I need to keep a fighters figure for now. So I am thinking it translates better as additional conditioning work for fighting. Sorry but I don't know what complexes are? Can you help me out with that? chrisjs
I thought the point of CrossFit was to not train for anything specific. Here's one guy's opinion: http://www.t-nation.com/free_online_article/sex_news_sports_funny/the_truth_about_crossfit
MaryStella
Your right it is to be good at all areas of fitness not just one area such as endurance or powerlifting. Thanks for the link that was an interesting article.
Danny1611124300
Check out Ross' website. He's a fitness trainer for pro fighters, used to be a pro boxer himself.I bought his "Infinite Intensity" book and used it a lot in my work outs.Great stuff. When lifting weight do compound movements with heavy weights (3-5 reps). This should add power.
RAINRA
I was put through the crossfit test at my gym because I got a guy who is certified in crossfit. I was dying at the end of the test. I thought I was in shape.... Think again... I knew that is where I should be with intensity not what I typically do. THanks for reminding me I will get back on that path. MaryStella
Awesome. Let me know how you do when you start again. They are intense. Luckily most of the workouts are short so I can them and other things too.

Couture547
I think Cross fit is pretty good. I train brazilian Jiu jitsu and most of the higher level compeitors only do that and grapple for strength and there extremely strong. There's a wide variety of different cross fit workouts. I don't think it's the best think if you want to be a huge bodybuilder or power lifter, but if you want total fitness and don't care about being really big then it's good
joelk
I like to use parts of it now and then, I was doing some of that stuff long before I heard of 'Crossfit' but then again, my training is very eclectic so I'll do it for a little while before I get bored and go back to something else.I find it good when dieting, it gets the cardio and weights out of the way at the same time.
