AEscalante1
Hello! I'm actually not a vegan yet, I am currently a vegetarian (sorry guys, quasi-lacto-ovo). I'm 21 years old and have been a vegetarian for about three years now and I am loving it! I of course want to eventually make the transition over to veganism, but at this time it is not possible for me. I've been working out for about less than one year as a result of coming to the conclusion that I need to be in shape! I do weight-lifting, running, biking and occasionally play a game of soccer or two. I would like to build mass, and do it in the most effective, vegan way possible (though I am not vegan, I do not use whey proteins or drink diary milks), but most importantly, I want to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. I look forward to learning lots!

AEscalante1
Yo, welcome to the site. Sorry to hear that you cannot become vegan - what is the hurdle?I am in the same boat as Tommy-Jitsu, I'm a university student and my resources are very limited. That being said, the food offered in my school (very small also) is not even vegetarian some of the time (my lunches and dinners largely consist of salads). The food that is offered for dinner is an in home version of some fast-food restaurants. I have written to the school and explained my dietary needs, and have asked the cook for some sympathy, but there are only two vegetarians in the school (again, small) and in this financial climate especially, they do not see how they can make meals especially for us. So sometimes I just settle and have a piece of their buttered garlic bread, or their buttered vegetables, or their broccoli with cheese. But as of now, I cannot make the jump. I hope, once I graduate and have more time for work and thus more time for income, I can become a vegan.

dropSoul
http://veganonabudget.wordpress.com/2007/09/25/tips/ Whey protein is expensive. You can get excellent vegan protein cheap at trueprotein.com. Super cheap, high protein meal in a min: Soft tortilla1 can of organic soy beansSalsa There's so many ways to do this cheap, with a microwave or a hot plate, but I like to just open a can of black beans, stick some salsa on top, add some greens, and chow. No cooking. Then there's peanut butter, banana's, apples, publix cheap bread. Publix cheap bread is vegan. Where are you in Florida? I'm in the Tampa Bay area, near Indian Rocks beach. Do you have a kitchen?
AEscalante1
I don't use whey proteins. Though I am not fully vegan, I generally avoid diary and eggs. As in, I don't drink milk or consume eggs directly, but if it is already present in a prepared meal and there is no other option, I eat the food. I'm not a very picky eater (I used to dumpster dive). So its not really a taste thing, but I would like variety as much as possible. I'm in the Lutz (just north of Tampa) area.
dropSoul
ahh. I read your post wrong. Sorry about that. Variety is nice, but if you're on a budget, and the school doesn't provide what you need, you might want to consider eating simply. If you look a tex-mex, Italian, or even Thai it's all the same thing but different. The sauce or the configuration.
