I feel you on that....really I do. If I really had to choose I would definetly choose Captain America. He represents everything that America truly is. He is an inpiration to the true America way. I love this line from the Civil War series http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i39/Ryofire/th_4500_89446783428_506848428_1977843_.jpg

"Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and to tell the whole world....no you move." -Steve Rogers a.k.a Captain America.

My favorite female hero is always Wonder Woman. A lot of writers ten to avoid her like the plague because they don't really get her, but she has so much potential and stands for what we CAN be. She's both a nurturer and a crusader and always has a sense of spiritual purity to her. Greg Rucka wrote her best.

My favorite male hero changes a lot. Right now it's Superman, but sometimes it's Cyclops, Batman, Gambit, Greeb Lantern (Hal) or occasionally Spider-Man. I think Superman gets written off as a too powerful hero far too often. It's like a lot of writers are stuck on the fact that he's super fast, super strong, flies, has x-ray vision, etc. From a character standpoint he has a lot of inner turmoil going on that hasn't really been touched on as much as it could be. I tend to like my heroes full of light, even in a dark world.

My favorite team is the X-Men. Grant Morrison's run on New X-Men brought my attention back to comics and it continues to be my favorite work. Geoff Johns did some swell work on Teen Titans too.

Awesome well put. Does anyone know of Fist of the North Star (Hokuto no Ken)? This guy Kenshiro has become one of my favorites as well. http://makieism.dasaku.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/kenshiro_pic2.jpg

I could could go on for pages about my favorite fictional heroes/heroines. However there's only one female heroine who I admire, that comes to mind, and that's Cutey Honey. http://www.cjas.org/~bchow/gonagai/cuteyhoney/images/chftitle.jpg

I like a lot of different superheroes. Spiderman, Superman, X-men, The Maxx ( I named a cat after the comic), Captain Planet, Ronin Warriors, Akira, Brave Star, He-Man, and the list goes on. Why do I like them, well because I grew up with an older and younger brother that liked comic books. need I say more.

I have three, why because they are strong, muscular, sexy, powerful, intelligent, and dominant

These female comic figures are independent, who don't rely on anyone but themselves.

The Preacher, because he is unconventional and I love Garth Ennis.

"Unconventional" is quite an understatement.

Haha, you do have a point. He shatters almost every superhero convention.

They are awesome, hsorlando. I've read the first three graphic novel collections. That was a few years ago. I want to read the others, but for some reason haven't gotten around to bothering my friends to borrow them.

If you're really looking for superhero deconstruction within a superhero universe, try to track down Marvelman/Miracleman (out-of-print, but Marvel thinks they purchased the rights. As soon as they get all the copyright claims cleared up, they'll immediately reprint). You hear a lot about DKR and Watchmen, but MM is what really broke things open. (Also, Animal Man is a hell of a read. Meta-everything.)

For modern stuff being published as we speak, Ellis is finishing up his "superhero" trilogy (Black Summer, No Hero) with Supergod in a few months. And Waid is having fun being off the leash with Irredeemable. Kick Ass has been a fun deconstructsploitation, to completely make up a word.
