Since I started using it I've really noticed a difference. Less muscle soreness, more energy, shorter recovery times, increased strength and muscle gains.. I would recommend it to anyone. Pure creatine mono or ester is what you're looking for.Also, the recommended dose is way higher than you need. I think creatine is very useful, especially for people who don't eat animals, as animals are a primary source of creatine. Studies have also shown that creatine improves mental function and coordination. Take that with a grain of salt, as there are studies that show nearly anything these days. Drink LOTS of water. If you don't, you're going to get awful cramps. muscle-locking, agonizing cramps. I use mono, but people tell me that ester is better on your stomach (creatine mono does cause some discomfort when digesting). I'm going to try ester shortly. As for cramps, If you're drinking like a gallon of water or more a day you're probably fine. A vegan diet is pretty high in water anyhow just from food. Of course I'm willing to try it in moderation, but I don't want to kill my organs. In moderation, there's no real risk of kidney issues unless you have a pre-existing condition to be cautious about. Also, I used it for probably the bulk of an 8-year stretch of training, and I never had any cramping issues, even when I didn't take in a ton of water. Not that I'd recommend NOT drinking plenty of water, but just to put out there that I've used more than most people ever will, and I never had any issues, be it cramping, frequent trips to the toilet, etc. that some people have. It'll always vary from person to person, but just taking a 5g/day dose isn't likely to give as many issues with digestion and cramping as someone who is taking, say, 15g/day. Typically, the same people who cry foul on protein powders are the ones that say we only "need" 30g/day and anything above that is useless for the body You know 'em, the ones that insist that every bodybuilder is going to be on dialysis by age 40, yet they seem to forget that the bulk of Americans eat a lot more protein than most people think (due to the meat and dairy, of course), yet kidney failure from protein intake is not a national emergency as they want to make it out to be. Any time some screams out that too much protein is going to kill you, supplement X is the devil in disguise, etc., take it with a grain of salt Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I got really, really bloated when I was taking it, so I stopped using it. Maybe I'll start it up again some day when I'm trying to add muscle...for now I'm still concentrating on losing fat and a bloated belly wasn't really helping matters. They're not the same thing. I note a definite improvement in my refractory period when I am taking creatine, and i don't take much of it at all. Too much of anything can potentially be bad. It is possible to OD on water (electrolyte depletion) if you try hard enough. Go and ask your doctor about your protein and potential creatine intake and see what he/she says. You're most likely going to be fine. I never got cramps or anything though. I always take it with carbs to help deliver the amino acid straight to the muscles. I mix it with fruit juice usually.
