kumar5
I love bread, wholemeal bread. The thing is- what can I spread on it? I've been using jam and honey for ages but I need healthier alternatives. Are there? I need something cheap, easy to make and can last a month.Suggestions now open. lobsteriffic
Peanut butter (or any nut butter) is good...you could make your own (do you have a food processor?) to cut down on costs.
xjohanx
Hummus and avocado is great.
Lyric
I have a wonderful chipotle mustard that is DELICIOUS. Mostly its just experimenting and getting creative about it.
Marcina
Raw almond butter. If you can find it.. It's quite rare and it usually costs a fortune.. But OHMANITSSOGOOD!!!
kumar5
I have peanut butter.Almond butter is too pricey in Malaysia, so I can't use it daily. How do you make a spread from avocado and hummus? Ground them into a paste?I saw some vegetarian yeast spread in the supermarket, low in protein though.

Mix a tin of chickpeas, 1tbsp tahini, 1 clove garlic, juice of a lemon and enough olive oil to get a good consistency in a blender or food processor (add salt/pepper to taste too). You can add peppers, sundried tomatoes or whatever you want to mix it up a bit! Can make guacamole with avacado, I've never had it on bread before. This might be the place to ask people, is store bought bread generally good for you?
lobsteriffic
I don't eat much bread. If I buy bread it's usually sprouted grain bread. I love making bread though. Especially bad for you things like baguettes and sourdough and ciabatta. I just don't anymore because then it's too tempting to eat it.
Marcina
I eat sprouted grain bread too. It's nummy. Also, I like naan every now and then
VeganDavid
Especially bad for you things like baguettes and sourdough and ciabatta.( I eat a multi grain sourdough cob (only one brand i choose) and it is terrific toasted with grilled tomato, mushroom & spinach. Certainly no harm has come to me from the bread over the years. What is bad in the sourdough that I might be missing?
lobsteriffic
Oh sorry, I meant like traditional San Francisco sourdough....it usually has white flour. I didn't mean the sourdough cultures are bad. It's the white flour.
sift to the seven
Hummus is good and also avocado, i suppose those are more suited for chips; bread works as well. And I like Trade Joe's Eggplant spread. Almond butter is good. ok lasts for a month...there is this health food that is basically peanut butter protein without the fat, you just add water and it essentially has the consistency of peanut butter. it's kind of goopy but it's not bad. http://www.bellplantation.com/
kumar5
I take store bought bread. Not much choice there. Also, tahini looks like a good spread. Any thoughts?
Hapexamendios
Hummus and avocado is great. I can second this. Garbanzo beans are very cheap and you just blend (or food processor) them with cumin and a few other spices and you've got a great spread!
kumar5
Hummus and garbanzo are exotic in Malaysia, haha. Not as cheap as peanuts.
