Steroids

Recommended Posts

As I have been briefly surveying the internet researching vegan bodybuilders I have noticed that most vegan bodybuidlers are not very massy, infact they dont really look much different to the guys I see in the gym who wouldn't call themselves pros by any measure.

If these bodybuilders are getting all the right proteins, what explains this? is this perhaps due to an unwillingness of vegan bodybuilders to use steroids?

I think you're assuming causality.

It's not that being vegan doesn't let you get very big, it's that guys who want to be huge are told they need to eat tons of meat. They follow that, it works for them, so they have no reason not to believe it's necessary. It's just a correlation.

Very few people are huge anyway, I'm sure for every not-so-huge vegan you can find tons of scrawny non-vegans.

Not to mention, the percentage of people in general who do weight training is very, very small in regard to the general population. Then, consider how many people who weight train are in it to get huge, you've got a smaller percentage compared to the "general fitness" crowd. Finally, take into consideration that vegans make up less than a percentage of the entire population; you're dealing with a pool of probably less than a thousand vegan bodybuilders throughout the world, so that will probably clear things up even more as to why you don't see gigantic vegan bodybuilders everywhere. Just trying to put things into perspective

Natural bodybuilders are generally not very big either.

I honestly don't see the point in destroying your health just to win a few trophies for being the biggest roid monster onstage.

Of course, I'm not saying all steroids are bad.. But they tend to be abused by athletes because they work so well that the athlete wants to take more and eventually ends up taking more than their bodies can handle.

Vegans are very health conscious people which is probably why they stay away from performance enhancing drugs.

Yeap totally!

The real reason vegan bodybuilders aren't huge is because they dont do steroids or growth.

All this talk about protein in your diet, but when any of us see a huge bastard, all anyone ever mentions is the steroids he must be taking, NOT what he is eating or if he is getting enough protein or aminos (though I'm sure he is).

I've seen guys grow so quickly after one cycle that they get covered in stretch marks!

I've never seen a vegan bodybuilder with a "growth tummy" or "bitch tits". Neither have a seen a female vegan bodybuilder with a fun-sized-mars-bar-sized bulge where her cl** should be in her pants

I must confess though, i would love to see a vegan bodybuilder take the drugs that non-vegans do. I don't think someone who was intelligent enough to be vegan would be willing to fu** their body up that much, but i for one would like to see how big they could get given the same drug input

I like that one Chubby! to the TS, I have often wondered the same thing, but the numbers aren't in the vegans favor. most omni people don't have much muscle and most vegan don't have much muscle and vegans make up less then i think it's 1 percent of the population and on top of that most people that are interesting in strength sports will be strongly encouraged to eat meat.

There's not too many really big guys on here even by natural standards, but Vegan Essentials is really good sized and has great strength for a natural person. of course his goal isn't to be a bber, so he's not going to try and get 4 percent body fat. Avi guy is really big and lean, but i don't know much about him other then his profile on the main page

Natural bbers are pretty damn big. not nearly as big as the juiced up guys, but there are ones that are like 5'10'' 225 in contest shape. that's huge. close to 225 lean body mass at 5'10''

Yes i agree. I have so much respect for those guys that took the long road. I'm sure juiced they could got there in less then half the time, but it would be so much more satisfying reaching that level naturally. Of course they'll never reach that super big level, but they also don't have to worry about going off test and having there hormones fall part and lose a ton of size and all the other health issues that come with roids.

Cheers. Yes this is what I suspected: an unwillingness of vegan BB to use steroids probably acounts for a significant size difference, especially baring in mind that steroids are so widely used, even by your average joe in the gym (in my training group at uni about 75% where juicing).

Whey Protein howvere still has a reputation as the best post-workout protein, how do the plant based alternatives weigh up in other peoples opinions?

Whey is the best protein powder but not much compared to soy or pea protein isolate. Free form essential amino acids are better than all protein powders and is totally vegan.

IMO you should be getting the protein or at least the majority from food. I believe Supplements are a waste and I've never noticed anything from a protein supplement on any diet. Even in the omni world the guys that have the size and strength are the ones getting the protein from the lean meats/ eggs and dairy(real food). And then you have the gym goer that is getting no gains living on whey protein shakes and stuff. The best of the best are eating real food and lots of it.

personally I don't think i would be ready for the yo-yo effects of roids. I have trained with a couple of guys who were using and actually had to stop training with them because of the roids. When they were off cycle I was much stronger then them but they would catch up and sometimes surpass me when on cycle. You could tell their physiques were changing, not so much bigger but tighter, more veiny and lost a bit of weight (not to mention the pimples!). Anyways, when they would finish a cycle they would pretty much go right back to where they began. At that point they would rarely come to the gym at all. I know if you do your PCT properly you should retain some of those gains but why gamble with your health, spend all that money, have to inject yourself etc. to go from one stage - juice go to another stage then come right back to where you began. There is an older guy that goes to my gym and he's very candid about his drug ABUSE. He says he never came off a cycle because he couldn't handle the loss in strength and size. He jokes about his viagra use.

I can totally understand the temptations of roids. As natural lifters we've already gained the majority of our mass in the first year and we will never look like Arnold. I've even felt like I've reached a fork in the road - stop lifting and take up a new sport OR juice and go to the next level. For now, I'm trying to enjoy the challenges and see if I can break some of those limitations - naturally.

Yeah i agree, that's one of a couple reasons why i never did roids and won't in the future.

I must admit I have definitely considered taking Steroids.

I realise I'm already a reasonable size, sometimes I guess I just get sick of working my arse off in the gym and eating the correct foods year after year.

A good Friend of mine has just finished a cycle and his gains have been Huge, through the correct PCT he has held onto almost all of his strength and muscle gains.

It should also be noted he has worked his arse off in the gym and been eating huge amounts as well, I train with him on a regular basis, and there are no light days or slacking off.

At the moment I'm still a No, mainly because of the nature of the drugs themselves...

That said is there really that much difference between Steroids and other supplements like Creatine etc

I had a wonderful conversation with one of my clients who is a urologists. He has been practicing medecine for 30 years. He has done extensive research on prostate cancer, and has developed a supplement line for prostate health. I started the conversation by asking himabout HRT (hormone replacement therapy). As a male in my late 50s, I am now a target for daily emails about the benefits of HRT. I will simply convey the part of the conversation about testosterone therapy. He said that this is mostly bad medecine . . . for example, a man in their 50s should have a serum level of about 250. After reading the hype, many patients demand to have the t. levels tested. If it is under 250, even say 245, many patients demand t. gel. That along with the hard sell marketing and the doctor kickbacks make it difficult for the doctor to say no. He also said that test. use causes the testicles to "go to sleep", (something most are aware of), but he said that if test is used for for over a year, the testes are not going to wake up. Now these people are hooked for the rest of their life, and have to use T forever . . . The most compelling thing he said to me was that using testosterone is "like sprinkling Miracle Grow on prostate cancer cells".

Exactly why, even if I'd ever had the desire to use, it isn't an option. My eye doc said that it'd increase the growth rate of the extra blood vessels in my bad eye, speeding up my blindness potential. While testosterone has significant benefits for muscle growth, it has some downsides that don't get much exposure, particularly in the way of it speeding up growth of things you DON'T want in your body!

Everyone's values are different. For many people achieving their goal is worth risking their health.

In my life, it isn't worth it. I used to lift quite hard in college for the sheer love of it, not necessarily for the results. I'm quite slim now as compared to those days. I'm also a lot more sure of what I want and getting it doesn't necessitate being a bodybuilder. If I could pull it off again I might like to do it again someday and as before I wouldn't give a shit about getting big. I love the feel of working out with weights.

I don't need steroids for that.
