Alejandro The Vegan
I want to make vegan hot pockets. I would like to make the little pastries that the filling comes in, however I'm not sure if I can get these premade or I actually have to bake them.. has anyone ever done this? Any suggestions would be helpful! thank you!
chrisjs
It's basically just pizza dough. Well, pizza-dough-like industrial substance.
Alejandro The Vegan
hmmm. i guess huh? Yes I've made pizza dough before now I wonder if I were to put fully made cooked tofu scramble will it burn it or do I fill them up afterwards?
lobsteriffic
I would wrap whatever filling you want in the dough and then bake it. I've done this with vegan calzones. I haven't tried it with a tofu scramble before.
djshrew
I would google vegan empanada for some recipe ideas (empanadas are kinda similar to hot pockets) Also, Amys brand makes some frozen things that are kinda similar to hot pocketshttp://www.amys.com/
lobsteriffic
Oooh, empanadas, that's a good idea. The cookbook Veganomicon has a good empanada recipe. You could use the dough and switch up the filling to whatever you wanted.
Alejandro The Vegan
empanadas! GENIUS! now why didn't I think of that? I know Amy's makes some but I want to make them fresh
lobsteriffic
I know this thread is kind of old, but I saw a blog post about making your own hot pockets and it made me think of this thread. You could easily replace the fillings to vegan ones. Instead of buttermilk use soy milk with a splash of apple cider vinegar mixed in (set it aside for 5 min. or so, so it has time to curdle), and instead of butter use Earth Balance. http://foodforahungrysoul.blogspot.com/2010/04/wicked-easy-hot-pockets.html
