johnnyfive
So I just picked up this product from gnc and I'm trying to figure out if it's vegan before I take it - guess I should have done that before I bought it, but whatevs. The ingredients I'm wondering about are:Mirconized Fermented L-GlutamineL-Glutamine Alpha Ketoglutrate Cheers, John
chrisjs
You'll have to check with the manufacturer. Glutamine can be derived from human hair. What is this product? I'd be concerned the other ingredients.
johnnyfive
good idea chris.. It turns out that all GNC Glutamine products aren't even vegetarian, let alone vegan.
xjohanx
And why even bother wasting money on something that you probably have no use for?
johnnyfive
elaborate? Are you saying glutamine supplements don't work.. or that someone can get enough glutamine through their diet?
chrisjs
He's saying that oral glutamine supplementation has never been shown to do anything other than lighten your wallet. Glutamine itself plays a significant role in building and maintaining muscle, but it hasn't been shown to be limiting factor in muscle building. It has been shown to help people recover from surgeries when given as injections, but that's quite different.
xjohanx
If you're suffering from severe stress (not "my gf dumped me" or "work is really stressful right now" but more "I have third degree burns all over my body") you might benefit from 20-30 grams per day. Otherwise it's pretty useless. If I may ask, what do you think it does and why do you think so?
johnnyfive
If I may ask, what do you think it does and why do you think so? I assume it prevents muscle catabolism/preserves muscle mass - just how it's marketed. ..guess I'll look into it a bit further. Wikipedia seems agree with you guys. xjohanx
Wikipedia and the companies that sell the product is not a reliable source of info. But seriously glutamine is probably the biggest and most succesful bluff on the supplement market today.
