robert
I was just thinking about posting this last night. Kathryn wrote this earlier: Hey, Robert, nice new avatar photo (your arms really ARE the same size!! Laughing ) And Alex replied: You mean forearms and upper arms? Very Happy That is exactly it! I have known for a long time that my forearms are actually bigger than my upper arms!!!!!!!!!!! That is why I LOVE To wear sweatshirts with just the forearms showing! The reason I thought about posting it finally (coming out of the huge forearm closet) is because at the gym on Sunday I was showing the flexed forearm to some guys and they confirmed my lower arm size dwarfing the biceps/triceps! Here is a photo from just last week (I know out of shape): http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c210/VeganBodybuilder/Forearm1.jpg Here are a few others where you can pretty easily tell. My upper arms aren't very big, that is part of it, but there is something a bit freaky about the forearms! http://www.veganbodybuilding.com/imgs/albums/RobertCheekeCollection/rc19.jpg http://www.veganbodybuilding.com/imgs/albums/ShipShape4/ship3.jpg http://www.veganbodybuilding.com/images/evrim/evrim19.jpg http://www.veganbodybuilding.com/images/evrim/evrim3.jpg http://www.veganbodybuilding.com/imgs/albums/RobertCheekeCollection/rc29.jpg I MUST BE A FREAK IF MY FOREARM IS BIGGER THAN THE ONE ON 6-TIME MR. OLYMPIA DORIAN YATES!!!!! http://www.veganbodybuilding.com/imgs/albums/Olympia-2004/dorian.jpg Now I just need to fix my upper arms.
jonathan
agreed - nice forearms (now get some captains of crush grippers and actually use them!!! ). but you and alex are right, you have to balance your upper arms. lots and lots and lots of close grip benching. lots and lots of dips. and lots of hammer curls. in that order! maybe some hang cleans too - i found they really worked my biceps as well as my back and shoulders. good luck with it mate - out of interest what are your arm measurements? (upper and lower). jonathan
robert
Thanks Jonathan, I've got to fix my arms if I want to keep moving forward in bodybuilding (or get on stage with a sweatshirt and leg warmers only showing my forearms and quads and win the show). I don't know measurements, but I'm only 180, so not that big, except forearm might be interesting to check, although I think they shrunk a bit. I'll check for you soon. I might have to PM the info if it is too wimpy.
jonathan
dude, you cannot possibly have smaller upper arms than me! mine have grown a bit recently and are still only 15.5inches! i have been told they look bigger though, but i think that my strength training should see me with 19-20inch arms one day jonathan
robert
yeah, I think you can get up that high. You seem to be built for it. I don't know, I think mine were also 15.5 or something like that at the 2004 Mr. Olympia I attended. I competed on stage in battle of the biceps contest where we did a bunch of reps, as many as we could for 1 minute with about 75 pounds and then they measured our arms. Daywalker
Thanks for the pics Rob. I love to see your forearms! When you get the rest of your muscles to match them, you will be the first all natural Pro! The pics on stage are also cool I think you were in great shape that time. Nice arms, traps, chest. You need to work on your calves (me too ).
robert
Thanks Alex, Cool to see me on the Olympia stage too, eh? The first vegan in a long time to get up there! I just need to be bigger the next time I get up on the Mr. Olympia stage for a contest. Roland Kickinger gave me the microphone and it was a fun time! -Rob
Daywalker
Yeah, i recognized Roland. Who was the other guy with the Superman tattoo? What did you say when you had the mic?
robert
Roland, Matt Duval (Muscle Tech guy, new Pro) and Timea Majorova are the ones on stage in the photos. I was mostly talking to Lee Priest out in the Audience and said some things about Jay Cutler and Troy Alves, wishing them luck. I may have mentioned something about veganism, but I don't remember. I was just excited to have the mic on the Olympia stage. Roland and I had a great time back and forth chatting Time for me to sleep now, see ya later man! -Rob (needs to sleep to get bigger) Cheeke Thin Thin Forearm Him

Thanks dude...I'm working hard again, trying to control stress, and sleep more and eat more and train hard. Today I was benching pretty heavy (for me). Cristian
Hey Rob,what kind of exercies do you do for you forearms?
robert
I actually don't do anything specific for forearms. I used to train them on a regular basis with lots of forearm curls (wrist curls) in a variety of ways....one arm, supinated, pronated, two arms behind the back, etc. I think the size of the forearms comes from working 4 years as a massage therapist and putting in long hours kneading muscles and really working the forearms hard. These days, I just hit the forearms when I do hammer curls and with some back exercises that require me to sqeeze my hand pretty hard. I also flex my forearms quite a bit. I get them pumped when training and flex mostly because it looks cools since they are filled with veins and they are my best muscle group. Some good forearm exercises are: One arm wrist curls (supinated) One arm wrist curls (pronated) To arm behind the back barbell wrist curls Hammer curls Reverse grip (pronated grip) EZ bar bicep curls Grippers, anything that causes you to sqeeze, even hanging from a bar like you are doing pull-ups, but just hang there and focus on grip. That should be enough variety and if anyone else has other exercises, feel free to add them. Train Hard Eat Plenty -Rob
willpeavy
My favorite forearm exercise is using a wrist roller. I have a homemade one I use with a really thick grip so you get an awesome burn. Here's a pic of a more standard wrist roller I got off the web http://www.sports-equip-supplies.com/phystraining/images/wristroller.jpg
Evan
Hey, don't worry. One of the most famous strong men of all time had huge forearms that out shined his biceps and that man's name was Popeye the Sailor Man!
Richard
Pop-Eye has got it going on, his hands were big too, I dunno how you train your actual hands and fingers to get bigger

theomen
gotta love big forearms, gives a great illusion of being huge. I had a friend in highschool with naturally large forearms, everyone thought he was incredibly muscular, yet he had little birdie upper arms. Jay
I think this is your best pic:http://www.veganbodybuilding.com/images/evrim/evrim19.jpgAnd I wonder if doing really high rep chinning has a lot to do with those huge forearms? I saw once you did like 6 sets of 20 plus reps. That has got to give the forearms a huge pump. The Yates pic is pretty cool too.
robert
Thanks Jay, Do you like that garden hose vein in my right arm? hehe Yeah, I've done 40 consecutive chins, but as some point out, I probably don't use full range of motion. I like to do sets of about 20 each time. Totally full-range, to the bottom like just hanging there and pausing, I do about 12. I prefer the faster type and I like that pump it gives. I think most of it is the 4 years of doing massage therapy. I pounded my forearms doing sports massages and deep tissue massages for hours each day. That is what I attribute to their size. Because they weren't always like that. I was a skinny long distance runner so forearms were tiny about 7 years ago. Thanks for the comments. I must train more, and eat lots. -Robert

Jay
Another example of how well extreme high volume can work. Robert, how long each day were you basically getting a forearm workout as a massage therapist? How long did you do that for a living? And how long has it been since you quit? Are your forearms shrinking since you quit?
