Combine almonds, pitted dates, salt, and water in a blender and blend on high for two minutes. 2. Strain through a cheesecloth-lined strainer into a large measuring cup or bowl. A cup of almonds has about 580 calories, plus 40 each for the dates, is right around 700 calories. Now even if you assume only half the calories make it into the final drink, that's still 120 calories per glass, while commercial almond milk only has half that many calories, plus no bitter aftertaste.
