robert
I know he's a FREAK, but Dorian Yates had one of my favorite physiques of all time. I do like the symetrical, balanced, aestetically (sp) pleasing physiques, but I also like monsters like this, which got me into bodybuilding in the first place: http://www.criticalbench.com/images/bodybuilders/yates2-2.jpg http://www.criticalbench.com/images/bodybuilders/yates3-2.jpg Of course these are not ideal for me, just some freaky images to see what the human body is capable of turning into with the right amount of drugs. I know it's not a lifestyle to look up to, but just interesting to see. This is the same guy that I out-muscled last year in Las Vegas at the Olympia. He's obviously not as big now http://www.veganbodybuilding.com/imgs/albums/Olympia-2004/dorian.jpg Edited September 11, 2005 by robert

robert
As far as some of the physiques I really like now: Rodney Helaire is a great natural bodybuilder. He is in the blue trunks: http://www.naturalbodybuilding.com/pictures2/NO010.JPG http://www.californianaturalmuscle.org/Rodney%20Helaire%20 The cool thing is when you search for his name on Google, the first site listed is www.veganbodybuilding.com I had him featured years ago as a Natural Athlete on our site. He is one of the nicest bodybuilders I've met too.
VeganEssentials
I wish I had a scanner to capture the shots that I'd put at the top of my list, but here are 3 physiques that I'd be pleased to have: http://www.veganessentials.com/images/kaz1.jpg http://www.veganessentials.com/images/joukoback_lg.jpg http://www.veganessentials.com/images/marundefinal.jpg Top one is Bill Kazmaier in his prime, 2nd one is the amazing back of Jouko Ahola, 3rd one down is Jesse Marunde. As you can see, I'm not overly concerned with looking like a bodybuilder, but having a build that allows you to move just about anything you desire Tried to get some shots of David Rigert in his prime and Dominic Filiou (anyone seen the latest Milo of him doing the farmer's walk?) but I'd need to scan those suckers in to have them to post here. Pete
You're after that Look of Power Ryan! Still if you actually look at them, they could make pretty good builders with some dieting I reckon. Pics I've seen of Bill Kazmaier he was pretty symmetrical too, would have done well I reckon. That's my humble opinion anyway
Guest
My ideal physique would be muscular and defined, but not massive. In terms of well know pro-bodybuilders, I think Frank Zane had a nice aesthetic. http://www.frankzane.com/images/FZbeard.jpg It is the fact that Zane is well known as the antithesis of the aptly tiltled monsters that I find appealing. Here's what Frank Zane would have looked like next to a monster like Markus Ruhl. http://www.ironage.us/virtual/zan-ruhl.jpg Of course, I don't have to worry about looking grotesque -- as that isn't even a realistic option. But Zane, however, seems more naturalistic -- even if he wasn't purely natural.
Kathryn
Male physiques I admire:Steve Reeves, Frank Zane and (first name?) Paris (the leaner, less massive ones, more symetrical than huge-- though I actually prefer less muscle, like a swimmer's physique). Women's physiques I'd like to have (in my dreams!):Rachel McLish or Gladys Portuguese or (first name? I know it's not Julie!) Chen, 80's female bodybuilders (before female bodybuilders started looking like men with long hair), but on the off-season (a bit softer look). Jay
I like the guys with very good strength to body weight ratios. Marvin Eder- at 190 could do 7 chins with 200 additional pounds. Did a dip with 460 pounds hanging from him (plus his BW). One of the first guys to bench 500 pounds.http://www128.pair.com/r3d4k7/MarvinEder.jpg Jasper Benincasa-possibly the best one arm chinner in history. Only guy I've ever seen do this:http://www128.pair.com/r3d4k7/JasperBenincasa2b.jpg(He's not swinging around, he's holding that positin.) John Grimek- a 200 pounder world class bodybuilder who could knock out 7 one arm chins. The bodybuilders nowadays often have a hard time even doing chins at all. Of course I wouldn't be too bad to look like this: http://www.marunde-muscle.com/forum/showpost.php?p=390&postcount=17 But really I don't care for the dehydrated steriod look even when it's combined with very little muscle as with Zane. AdrienneP
Nancy Andrews is my hero. crashnburn
like i mention in my intro, i am not going to be a threat to any of the professionals here. i just wanna be in good beach shape. http://www.cineclub.de/images/fight_club4.jpg http://www.mad-movies.com/imgdata/b32.jpg http://www.monroe.k12.fl.us/kls/Immigration/Chinese2/Bruce%20Lee%20Enter%20the%20Dragon.jpg and the Matt Cedeno link that someone posted. Odidnetne
I'm going to say probably something like what Tarz looks like. I'm a cardio nut, so I'm not looking for too much size, though I definitley like how I look now, as opposed to 9 months ago when I looked like a crack-addict. mulletass
Arnie, but I focus on strength too. I really would be thrilled to have that kind of strength-to-weight ratio though. Fuck, that'd be cool. Gotta slim down first.
rubber_ritchie
Hi Rob Thanks for the great post. On the subject of goals and telling people, I think it's better not to tell people when you are going for something amazing. I remember telling my sister I was going to go to London to be a professional contortionist and she said 'youll never make any money doing that.' I would say tell positive people but don't tell everyone. I think we have no idea what the human body is capable of. I have no natural flexbility and through working it obsessively I made incredible gains. I can't wait to see all you guys become monsters!

_raVen_
I dunno. In both male and female, I like looking at cut bodies with muscle (I don't like bulk); but the most attractive to me, aesthetically, is the proportion aspect. I do not like the look of being (wildly) out of proportion. I think one should work within the boundaries of their body, bone structure, and genes. Again, this, as far as looks, the aesthetics of the body. For other endeavors, I suppose it doesn't matter, as long as one is achieving the goal for their particular sport or personal desire
xveganjoshx
My ideal physique. Hmm. Something like Stan McQuay. http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/564/stanmcquaybodybuilderceqw5.jpghttp://img72.imageshack.us/img72/3254/drobson46abiglr7.jpghttp://img72.imageshack.us/img72/3977/drobson46abigej6.jpg Key word here is IDEAL. I'm pretty sure he is natural, at least at the time these pics were taken (2004). The closest I can get to his physique is my goal. He has nice size and symmetry, without going overboard into the realm of roid-monsters like Coleman or Jay (Who I both respect greatly btw. I actually really liked the package Jay brought to the Olympia, though of course it's not for me.) Anyway, Stan comes to mind. What do you guys think? Do you think Stan got this way without "supplements"? I think it might be possible, some kick ass genetics and lots of hard work. Either way it looks nice. robert
Yeah, Stan looks great! I always thought he had a very good physique too. I've heard something about him being "natural" somewhere before. I know he works hard and does have some amazing genetics. I'm not exactly sure about his natural status, but he does look pretty awesome!
