speckadust
Hello, Sistas and Brothas! I'm from the U.S. (born and raised in Southern California), but I now live in Washington, DC. I've been a vegan for over 14 years now, and I've been more conscious about making sure that workout to strengthen and tone muscle. I'm a footballer, and I've been trying to balance my cardio workouts with weight and core training, but I've recently noticed that I'm losing more muscle tone than necessary. It may have to do with two reasons, however: 1. I'm currently fasting for religious purposes (so far (day 3), I've missed breakfast before sunrise--not good, I know);2. I tore my ACL in a football match a few weeks ago, and I'm having an operation for reconstructive ACL repair at the end of the month, so I cannot run or sprint, as I usually do during my workout sessions. If any of you know of any healthy vegan protein shake recipes, I would be MOST grateful. I look forward to learning with you all. C.O.
Ouch ACL injuries can brutal. Go to the recipes section of this forum for protein shake recipes and or use the search function in the upper right hand of the screen and type in protein shake or either of those words, a bunch will likely pop up. The fasting is tricky I bet. You will probably just have to work around it and get in more food during the hours you can eat or play catch up when you are able to start eating again. Your body definitely needs the nutrients to recover from the injury so I hope you aren't going completely without eating for days at a time right now. Good luck and welcome to the community here! -Dylan
speckadust
Dylan, thank you SO much for your kind message and for the heads-up. It is GREATLY appreciated. . . . Fortunately, my ACL tear is not painful at all, and I am definitely not going days without eating, as I should be eating before sunrise and after sunset, but I can't really eat that early in the mornings, so I'm going to focus on just having shakes, because I can tolerate liquids better during that time of day. Thank you again! Stay radiant, Shani

stcalico
Welcome Shani. I generally have only been making 'green' smoothies which don't have any added proteins but I think there are some protein shake recipes in the food/nutrition section here that you can check out.
