What vegan make-up do you use?

I think it would be better if people were a bit creative about wearing make-up.... everyone just does the same old thing though, a bit of black on their eyes, a bit of red on the lips, perhaps some whitener on the facial skin.... some cream to conceal spots despite clogging up pores.... same old, same old.

 

Now if people would put a bit more effort and imagination into it then it would make it more entertaining, thus to my mind more worthwhile.

 

You know the sort of thing, a few spirals, maybe some stars, a bit of tinsel on the side..... a few sequins on the nose.... perhaps multicoloured lipstick spots all over their face and neck.....

 

that would be much more snazzy, i think.

 

Unfortunately, most people who wear cosmetics seem to disagree with me because everyone else isn't doing that, so it isn't 'fashionable' to get creative with it...

ah well, maybe someday....

 

I don't wear make either. Really. None. I don't own any cosmetics. I agree that the fancy designs you describe sound much more "snazzy". I also understand that most people who wear makeup would disagree.

 

In my opinion, most people wear makeup for "sex appeal". Our society has a youth standard and many female adults spend their lives trying to recreate youth. When we are young, we have naturally rosy cheeks, pink lips...As we age, we lose pigmentation. In all fairness, the youth standard is not exclusive to western society. Even in tribal communities, young women are more sexually desirable. I think it's important to at least acknowledge that this is perhaps more than societally imposed - that it expresses something inherent about human nature (I find anthropology extremely interesting and telling with regards to the basis of our biology as human beings).

 

So, chances are slim that people using makeup are going to want to do what you propose. I, on the other hand, think it's a stellar idea. I don't own any makeup, though, and can't really see myself going out to buy it - it feels so heavy on your face! It suffocates your pores! While it can sometimes hide the effects of aging, I think it probably damages your skin more. I think hippie-folk age much more gracefully.

 

And Richard, I agree, the bodypainting photos of Daywalker and K-oz are outstanding!

I think more people should consider ninja masks or hockey masks if they don't like how they look I'd think that'd kick so much ass, to see everyone in masks all the time, or helmets.

I dont wear much make up either. It bothers my skin. I don't like the way it feels. I tried some recently because I have a blotchy face(too much sun exposure) and I hated it. I do like wearing mascara and eye make up if it is gentle and non irritating. I will be looking for some that is not full of chemicals.

 

I need to find a sun block that is good for sensitive skin.

If everyone who bought makeup and slathered it over themselves went in for that sort of stylishness, I would understand the point of it.

 

 

A lot of women try to imitate sexual arousal by putting on make-up, whether they are conciously aware of it or not.... during sexual arousal their lips and cheeks flush, and blusher & lipstick are like comedic parodies of this phenomenon.... so exaggerated, that to me it seems entirely unbelievable and rather ridiculous.

 

Considerign that lots of people find girls even as young as teenagers to look "dull, plain, unattractive, etc" without make-up on, it seems that the above motive is more important to many people than the "imitating youthfulness" one.

 

The reason that Geisha girls began slathering themselves with 3 inches of makeup and ruining their skin, was because they were aiming for this type of 'sexual appeal' .....

For example, society at the time when Geisha were all the rage dictated that women having pale skin like western women had, was very attractive.... so they exaggerated on that ideal by painting their faces garish white.

Sexual arousement was also, of course, considered desirable in women, especially attractive ones in social situations.... which was how they came to have garish red lips... the same motive was involved in their decision to leave little strips of skin at the back of the neck bare, as apparently that makes a lot of Japanese men think of the womens' genitals (??) , or at least become aroused by the thought of naked flesh.

 

In the Heian era it was considered to be the case that showing white teeth (ie when laughing etc) was exceptionally uncivilised and boorish - like a westerner.... so in those days, trendy women combined their white face-painting with painting their teeth pitch-black.

 

Many guys are sexually attracted to young girls and women because those humans are very fertile, much more so than older women. If they are guys who would like to have a part in producing children sometime, they will often subconciously be drawn to people who look capable of popping one out. Of course, where gathering physical attraction is concerned it helps the youthful ones that young women are so firm, lacking wrinkles, so hot, etc..... you will notice that most men (or young men, at least) veer away from physical engagement with young women who look nerd-y, who are obese, etc... no matter how skillful their makeup application.... many will shun all females who are not long-legged, blonde, with big breasts.... dismissing the rest as "not very attractive" , which is no doubt why so many female celebrities seem to aspire to look like clones these days.

 

People generally want to look the same and fairly tedious, they don't usually want to look different or uniquely interesting....

You can frequently see it in their hair, their clothes, and in what they smear on their skin.... all of which are defined or influenced by what others tell them to wear, or what those around them are wearing.

 

After all, fashionable is simply another word for "manipulable" .... if you have a fashionable metal, it is easy to manipulate.... the same is true when it applies to humans.

Why so many people try to wear that as a badge of merit, as if being easily manipulated is a good thing, I'm not entirely sure.

 

If people started wearing green lipstick and painting their faces yellow, and if the fashion industry passed that off as "trendy" and "cool", I think we would soon see hordes of women daubing themselves in that manner.... even though that would have nothing to do with trying to look like a parody of someone who is young or sexually inflamed.

After all, the 'white/sickly-orange lipstick' fads of the 60s and 70s were hugely popular, at the time.

 

I think Richard's ninja/hockey-mask idea is great !

Or maybe for optimal convenience, they could just stick a paper bag over their heads and scrawl "I'm a really young woman" across the front of it. Or "I'm really sexually aroused" , "I am easy to manipulate" , "I think I look ugly" (with whichever they write on the bag being dependant on their motive for wanting to make-up, you see) ...

It would save them loads of time, money and effort, and create a huge amount less environmental waste, than the present arrangement.

I think the veering away from "nerdy" is culturally imposed and perhaps less significant that one might believe. There are plenty of porn sites catering to those seeking 'nerdy' looking women. I'm at work and am unable to link you to the sites but given that both my boyfriend and I find nerdy women insanely attractive, trust that the sites exist. I'd argue that the long-legged, blonde, big boobs standard is also culturally imposed. What is more generally indicative of fertility is a decent waist-hip ratio.

When acting as a research assistant for the department of psychology at the Arizona State University, I came across many studies validating that finding.

 

I agree that men are most attracted to women whom are considered "fertile" - hence the youth attraction. Again, a biological factor that I think explains human nature across cultures.

While it is true that many people would attempt to be fashionable, I think that is also an attempt by women to not be "overlooked". If you don't keep up with all the brazen women who will notice you? I think most of our society is completely sex obsessed yet in denial. I think our motives are biologically driven but corrupted by commericalism and media. Marilyn Manson said it best in the "Bowling for Columbine" documentary.

 

Manson:" ...But this is not the way the media wants to take it and spin it......Because the idea of the media is: 'Keep everyone afraid and they'll consume."

 

True, we're afraid of be undesirable so the media tells us that we'll be undesirable if we have bad breath - how do we combat this "toothpaste, gum, mints...buy buy buy". We'll be unattractive if we're not a size 4 - how do we combat this? Diet pills, weightloss programs, low fat "processed" foods...buy buy buy.

 

Ultimately, why do we want to be attractive and desirable? Biology. I agree, though, Astrocat, that things have gotten WAY out of control and most of what is on display as being "sexy or attractive..." is just garrish.

Avon got an award from PETA a few years ago for being cruelty-free. They no longer meet the new standard because they do not send out letters barring their suppliers from animal testing, however, many of their products are not tested on animals nor do they contain animal products. If you go to the website you can email them and ask which products are vegan.

powdered clay for face powder! mix activated charcoal with water for eyeliner or use it powdered for eyeshadow.

You can probably powder some dried flowers for othe colors too.

I don't wear makeup either. Maybe if I had an important event to go to I might. Anyway I think if you wear makeup everyday it ends up doing a lot of damage to your skin, that's probably why some women end up getting facelifts because all the years of wearing all that stuff on your face pulls your skin. But I could be wrong, just a thought.

Yeah, I wear makeup to important events too. Also, normally I don't like dresses, but I will wear one if it's a wedding or christening, and I also take my crown and sceptre, and night vision goggles. If there is room, I take my pogo stick, and if it's real special, I only wear one shoe.

ok, I have a tip for those puffy bee-stung collagen lips.

 

For a completely natural alternative, dab a teeny amount of cinnamon oil on them. It makes all the blood rush to the surface. They say its supposed to last a few hours but for me it doesen't last that long, but its great for a little "touch" if your showing up for a date or special event.

 

Do a skin test first! Cinnamon oil causes allergic reactions in some. And I should warn you... it hurts just a little .... but it definitely works, and works good if you want a short term puffy lip effect!!!
