I was thinking about this awhile back. Anything can happen to you at any time. You can lose your house, your job, EVERYTHING. You have to make do with what you have and a lot of people are forced out on the streets. Ive been thinking on preparing on such a thing. I have found two sites that seem very helpful.

http://guide2homelessness.blogspot.com/

http://www.homelesshandbook.0catch.com/

However, I think there is a lot more that we can all think up together.

Heres some stuff that I have thought of recently and that I was influenced from those sites:

1. Get a gym membership (get a package deal so that you only have to pay $50 or less per year for membership after your contract ends) so that you can stay in shape and better yet, be able to take showers.

2. Get a Volkswagen Van or something similar so that you can sleep and store food, clothes, etc.

3. Get a job (such as at the Library, Gym Desk clerk, etc.) that is not stenuous and that you can relatively make easy and short trips to and from your van or car.

4. If you don't have a gym membership, go to a college and use their locker room for your showering and other needs.

5. Tint the windows of your car/van so that people cannot see you sleeping inside and do not know whether you are in or out of the car. This is good so that cops do not stop you for sleeping in your car or such.

6. Keep ENOUGH clothes that you need, no more, no less.

7. Get a PO Box for your address.

8. Stay in relatively close space if you are working and have a PO Box address. Don't park too far.

9. Keep bus tokens just in case.

10. Try and minimize driving of your vehicle to prevent accidents. It is your home after all. You may want to store a motorized scooter or bike on top of your van (or in or on top of your car if it fits)

That seems about all for now. Here are some pictures of a Volkswagen Bay Window 1974. It has a gas stove, central heating, 2 double beds, and some other things I can't think of right now.
