2 more points for the herbivores (kind of)

I just felt like posting this because I hardly ever convince people that eating more plants is a good idea.

Today on MySpace I got 2 comments from 2 people I go to school with. One girl said she was going "veg", though I don't know if that's vegetarian or vegan, either way that's cool. The other was from a person looking to "cut back" on his "animal edibles", but he seems like the person who would become a vegetarian (or probably vegan). The 2nd is a weight lifter though, which would help to break the stereotype further by having an athlete who embraces eating more plants in their diet.

Does anybody have stories about helping people out though with nutrition and things like that?

well, you definitely should provide the weight lifter with these pics to show him that he can be strong and vegan at the same time:

That is the FIRST thing that I would do. heck, just show all those people that showed interest in "veg" just to re-assure them about any protein concerns and be pro-active about those potential concerns.

nice job odinete!!

He's not concerned about protein, so much as just wanting to know good sources, but he just needs time, I can't imagine too many people just jump head first into veganism.

i did ... more or less probably within a week or two of goin veggie i went vegan

I didnt say he would or should jump head first into veganism. I meant to suggest that he may be interested in seeing vegan bodybuilder pics since he is an athlete that weight lifts. Showing off Rob's pics cant hurt - it can only help.

And I spoke of being "pro-active about "potential" protein concerns, " meaning ones that may pop up in their minds later.

I know you didn't mean it like that, but what I didn't say (and it's my fault for not saying it) is that he's seen my muscle before, and knows I lift weights, and I told him I'm trying not to get as big as other people are, and that other vegans are getting huge.

The other thing I didn't say is that I told him to come over for other nutrition questions about veganism, so I should have said more.

Same here. I went from being an omni one day to being a vegan the next. And it's been a great change.
