Here is a photo of my legs the day before the contest. My legs are always better than my upper body:

These next two photos were taken the day of the contest outside in the sun:

Here are some photos from the prejudging. These photos only show the 1st, 2nd, and 4th place winners. They were taken by a friend of the winner, so he was the main center point for the photos (the winner is the middle guy in the first photo):

I dunno dude. I'm no judge but you look like you deserved 3rd not 4th to me. The 3rd place guy has no legs at all, and yours are huge. Your upper body isn't that big, but you know that....like I said, I dunno, but I'm not convinced 4th place was fair.

Thanks,

It was really close. That is what the judges told me. My major weak spots are my upper arms and my lats. I don't have nearly as much width as I need and I'm missing a lot of arm thickness.

I tried to overcome that by have the best lower body and arguably the best overall conditioning, but a narrow trunk and small arms are hard to hide

Now I'm focusing on adding more size. I need the rest of me to catch up with my upper legs. Not that they are that big, but they are my best muscle group by far.

The 3rd place guy had much bigger arms and was much wider. I didn't notice that backstage because we were all just hanging out and pumping up, I never saw him flex.

The 1st and 2nd place guys were a big bigger and the first place guy had big legs too.

They were all nice guys and it was a fun time.

I'll just work on being thicker next time.

I agree with Megan - you were good for third mate

I think that you have increased the thickness in your lower back btw.

If I were you I wouldn't do any more comps this year. Just focus on bulking - and once you are confident you can hit the stage at 190lbs then compete again. I would agree with the judges (though certainly not with their attitude) that your overall thickness and upper arms are you weaknesses.

Good luck with the training, and I hope to see you bulking like a motherf**ker!!

Jonathan

Thanks for the comments and feedback and suggestions. It is always good to hear what I need to work on. Sometimes I have my own agenda of what needs to be improved to hearing/reading a variety of suggestions is very helpful.

If I stumble across other good photos from the contest I'll post them. These were e-mailed to me from some other competitors. I didn't have anyone taking pics, so I got quite a few for people taking them of me and e-mailing me.

Hey Rob~

You look great anyway, def best over all conditioning. Legs are looking monsterous. I also agree, 4th was a bit off but that's the way the cookie crumbles. Just know that you are light years beyond most of us lesser mortals so don't sneeze at your 4th medal. It's still quite an accomplishment. Good job!

Seeing those pictures you had third place Robert... What is your routine looking like? Seems to me that your problem areas is your leg sweep. Back thickness. Lat width. Bringing those three up will bring your arms up naturally. I kind of want to know what you do, so I can get an idea how to help out. My back width used to be my worst and now it is one of my best... Forgot to mention that you lack hamstring thickness also.

Great pictures Rob!

But you deserve a kick in the butt my friend - you need to work on your posing!!! You got more potential in you, you need to show it! (we'll work on that when we meet )

The first shot of your legs is awesome!

Another good thing - the others had all black trunks, but yours were pink!

It's hard to judge by photos, but the winner looks very soft to me. Here in Europe condition is usually judged very high, he probably wouldn't have won, even being the bulkiest.

NOW - eat, sleep and grow!

(That's what i need to do, too.

Problem is i got no time for the first two, so the third is quite hard )

Enjoy the bulking season, mate

Peace,

Daywalker

  • 8 months later...

Thanks for the comments. This was last spring. I was too small and didn't do well in that contest at all. I did better in March the next month. I hope to compete this spring, perhaps summer and fall too. We'll see how it goes. I'm still not very heavy or big so I have a long way to go!

Thanks! I really appreciate it. I work hard and have all kinds of distractions as many of us do. I am trying to stay focused and accomplish the goals I have for myself. It is a very hard sport/lifestyle to be satisfied with and it is easy to "give up" and I considered that a number of times. But I won't let myself give up and I continue to slowly show signs of improvement.

I'm busier than ever, but I think my focus and dedication is still there and if I can control those two things, I should be successful.

Thanks again for the comments. You do amazing work too, by the way. Your website is totally awesome and you've been a big help to me with this forum.

I hope to come out to visit sometime. If 2007 turns out to be as successful for me as I plan (and hope) then I should be able to do some awesome traveling in 2008. I'll see as many people from here as I can.....probably starting in Germany

Take care,

This is from last year, before you joined the forum. It just got brought up again.

There are a few good photos but I got rocked that night.

I feel pretty good about this one:

This is 1st place and 4th place. I was 4th, but I feel like it is a pretty good comparison photo. I hope to compete in 2007 but I have no idea how I'll do. I don't have a lot of size, but I'm working on it. My body naturally wants to drop 5 pounds each day!!!

Thanks for the comments and....of course....I love Pink! Pink is one of my favorite colors, period!

I totally understand. I guess you feel sometimes that your bulking and training isn't working the way you want it to. But the body needs time to adapt. I feel the same too sometimes but then I remember that Schwarzenegger started lifting weights when he was 16 and I am training for one or maybe two years now. That's no comparisson. I think you made great progress in the last couple of years: you've become bigger and more muscular and you got a lot of experience through these competitions!!! I am certain that you will look as big as these other guys in a couple of years from now!

I have no doubt, dude!

I am looking forward to this. If you ever visit Berlin, just let me know and we will stuff our bellies with lots of vegan fast food at some places I know here.
