Houston Price
I’m putting together a compact home lab setup for freelance research work — mostly running sample preps, basic microscopy, and PCR reactions. I’m trying to figure out which consumables are really essential and what just takes up space. I don’t want to overbuy, especially since my space is limited. What do you all consider the bare minimum for a functioning solo lab?
Ripazha
Been there. When I was setting up a bench at home for a project on cell division — specifically the phases of meiosis — I went overboard at first. Ended up with more racks and centrifuge tubes than I could ever use. What worked best was starting small: just pipette tips, gloves, sterile tubes, and proper labeling tools. Also, finding a site that sells everything in one place really helped streamline my orders.
Houston Price
Kinda cool seeing more people building personal lab spaces. Back in college, that would’ve felt like science fiction, but now it’s just a matter of a few smart purchases. Wild how things change.
