MegglePufff
My name is Meg, I am a 21 year old cyclist and runner. I've been vegan since just before Thanksgiving 2005. I have been vegetarian for six years, and realized after several stints at a vegan lifestyle, that the animals, my body, and the environment no longer needed my excuses for not going all the way and living a vegan lifestyle. So here I am. I was introduced to Robert Cheeke through myspace, and that's what brings me to this website. I am by no means a bodybuilder, but I love to bike, walk, or run instead of drive, or just run and swim for fun. An active lifestyle is essential to my veganism. I am allergic to wheat, which gave people their doubts when I first went vegan. I was told I could not be active and vegan and allergic to wheat all at the same time. I have certainly proven them wrong. Since I went vegan, I have lost about 30 pounds and plan to lose much more so I am at a healthy weight (goodness, as a lacto-ovo vegetarian, I practically ate nothing but ice cream!). I am glad to live in an area that is so veg-friendly. Most restaurants around here, at the very least, can offer me a vegan option or two. There's even a great all-vegetarian Persian restaurant in the next town over (the rat-torturing university town of Chapel Hill). Feel free to email me or friend me on myspace if you'd like to talk! ~Meg~

robert
Hey Meg, Thanks for joining I think about 20% of the members found their way here via myspace. Perhaps I spend too much time there...but it brings the community together so I don't mind Awesome to have you here. You'll learn lots, meet tons of cool people, perhaps even in your area, and we'll learn from you too. All the best and welcome aboard!

loveliberate
Hello & Welcome Meg! Awesome that you decided to go vegan despite the wheat allergy. I've met several vegans who don't do wheat - and others who dont do soy, nightshades (tomato, eggplant, etc) as well. Robert and I were just talking today about the fact that despite the name of the forum, most of us here are not bodybuilders. Whatever folks here are into they tend to be wonderful, friendly people. I'm not sure if I should mention it but ya know there's some real tasty vegan ice cream available right? I've spent a few days in your area and really enjoyed it. If i was ever to live out east, western nc is on the top of places I'd like to be! Did you know that there is a chatroom that goes with this website & forums? I'm hoping that more folks will start using it. Heck, I'm going to go sign in there now - Bye!

Well, I spent a lot of time on the peta.org website, and I read up on factory slaughter farms, both through peta and other resources, and I felt so horrible about contributing to such horrible things with no better excuse but, "I love the taste of cheese too much." It was basically one view of the "Meet Your Meat" video on peta's website.... I was in tears by about a minute through. Also, I convinced my parents to adopt a shelter dog (about the smartest, sweetest, most loving and loyal and obedient sister I could ever ask for!). Once I fell in love with her, which did not take long, I could not see beating, skinning, eating, starving, or otherwise torturing her--- how could I possibly condone that treatment towards other non-human people? (I now think of animals as people, too). I feel so terrible for not going vegan sooner! I believe there will be a day in the future when all humans look back and say, "Our ancestors ate other sentient beings?!" When humans treat each other the way they treat non-humans on slaughter farms, it is called assault, abuse, or murder.

CrispyQ
Welcome Meg! I convinced my parents to adopt a shelter dog (about the smartest, sweetest, most loving and loyal and obedient sister I could ever ask for!). We just adopted a dog from the shelter. He is a joy! I've loved every dog I've ever had but this guy is just so special! And he loves me back. I hope your parents are as happy with their dog.
