Meet Splenda, a rescued laboratory rat from Brooklyn who came to live with me after a lab employee asked if I would care for her. Of course I said "Hell freakin' yes!"

I got to see the lab she was kept in. They perform psychological and nutritional experiments on these poor little animals. All of the males (except the breeders) had implants in their heads, and a lot of them were being starved. The females (like Splenda) was subject to tests involving sugar and water. While this went on, it is my understanding that they weren't allowed to be fed.

Anyway, at least SHE is happy and safe, and will never have to worry about being experimented on and mistreated again. She'll have REAL food, and lots of love. And as soon as I find a table, she'll have a 3 level rat condo! (It's downstairs in the basement, waiting to be set up once again).

Here are some photos...

Thank you! :">

Both are so adorable! What a wonderful life Splenda will have now.
Thanks! I hope she enjoys the rest of her life here; I know when Noah was rescued and brought here, he got used to being spoiled very quickly lol.

T,

Tears of joy. I cant thank- you enough and express how awesome I think you are for rescuing this innocent being from a life of torture and misery.

I cant say "you rock" enough. again, tears of joy.

That pic of Splenda and Noah side by side is so cute! I hope they become the best of friends and love each other's company soon. Please keep us posted and post more pics any time. There is no such thing as "overkill" here when it comes to animal pics!

You have SO SO SO made by otherwise sh**y day. I just finished viewing some gruesome lab footage so this post of yours couldnt have come at a better time.

I love Noah and Splenda. And you are a damn awesome person with a heart of gold. <3

Thanks so much.

Yes, my friend is an employee there, but not for long. We're trying to get a couple of more out of there if we can. The problem with him rescuing them without going to his superiors is that the lab is part of the school he goes to, and I wouldn't want him risking his education. He's not an activist, but he's doing what he can.

Well send him a heartfelt thanks and a big hug from me, and may his courage and kindess be returned to him a thousand times over!

Saving this rat means that another rat will get tortured from now on... doesn't it?
No, because I didn't steal her from the lab. She was "retired" and instead of letter her get euthanized, I volunteered to adopt her and any others they may feel like getting rid of in the future.
